Couple highlights... Agent 1 We have met the family deductible on our plan. The rep says there's a deductible that is embedded that also has to be met, which is crap. Once the family deductible is met, there is no more deductible for anybody on the family plan. Always been that way. Continues to argue with me. Agent 2 She reads off notes on my case that she sees on the computer but can't explain what they mean as she goes. Tells me to stop interrupting her. Ridiculous. Today I was accused of not being able to spell and also lying. For instance, I sent an email three weeks ago about a grievance and was told "we never received it," you must have spelled grievance wrong in the email address. I said I followed up and was told you received the grievance. Was told, nope, not in my notes, we never got it, need to spell better. Then I said, can I get an email of a person in case I am spelling something wrong again? Was told, no one here has email addresses. Then I got an email from someone at the company that they had received my grievance three weeks ago and sent me a letter to acknowledge it (I never got a letter). read more

I have BCN advantage. it's horrible. All endodontic dentists in the state of Michigan have opted to be "out of network" even tho the plan says it covers it. So it would have been great to have known this before I signed up for BCN advantage... thinking that I wouldn't have to worry if I had an emergency Come up. I was covered, right? Wrong! Great - so far. I called the customer service line today and, after going through a short menu, I was transferred to a rep who answered after 1 ring. Her name was Cierra and she gave me concise, easily understandable answers to all my questions concerning my upcoming cataract surgery and my copays, deductible, preauth, etc. Since it isn't scheduled until July, I can't speak to the billing process yet, but certainly was very pleased with the customer service so far. I have worked in customer service for over 60 years and I am not usually very happy with many encounters when I need assistance or have questions. HORRIBLE customer service. You literally can't get anyone on the phone at the 800 number to ask even a basic question to. I have a question on coverage (thank goodness I don't need to get certification for a hospital stay or anything urgent/super time-sensitive!) and the message said it would be 20-29 minutes. I decided to hold since last time I called in it, it was 45, so this seemed better in comparison. I have now been on hold for 1 hour and 15 minutes and still no answer!!!! read more

AVOID THIS INSURANCE. I don't know how the actions of this company are legal (I'm not sure they are, honestly). They continue to deny my prior authorization for arthroscopic surgery, even though I have clear documentation of a meniscus tear (MRI) and other complications from that tear. It's been almost a year of jumping through hoops (and me spending hundreds of dollars doing so) to show conservative treatment will not work. My surgeon has submitted five times, trying different codes and updating the "evidence" this is necessary. With the last denial, he reached out to schedule a peer to peer to resolve this. THEY REFUSED TO SCHEDULE THIS WITH MY DOCTOR. The reps continue to tell me just to do a post op appeal (i.e., do the surgery and then see if they will cover it). Speaking with different doctors offices, apparently this company is known for denying the prior auth codes, telling patients just to do a post op appeal, and then denying the post op appeal because it wasn't prior authed. This company is a scam. I've had friends with MRI's that did not show a tear (not every tear can be confirmed by MRI anyway) received treatment and fully recover, while I'm still fighting with my insurance. I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary of not being able to partake in sports, or basic exercise, thanks to this company. I've never been so excited for open enrollment so I can get away from a "health insurance company" that clearly has zero regards for my health. I find it amazing that a company so incompetent is allowed to administer and provide health care to people. If I was an older person who thought that Blue Care Network would follow through with what they said and not constantly have to keep calling up to keep tabs on what's going on, or should I say, what's not going on, I'd be in big trouble. One example...I got an infection on my foot. Blue Care would not cover the medical supplies because they required a Home Care Nurse to wrap my foot, but they deemed that my injury was not bad enough to warrant providing an Home Care Nurse...Catch 22 to not provide basic medical coverage. I called the doctor's office and they were aghast. The office manager couldn't believe it, she had to call and confirm it. Which she did. She was totally disgusted. And it got worse from there. I needed a boot to keep my foot from moving and breaking the wound open. I called BCN medical equipment to see if it was covered. They didn't know...they couldn't tell me. Do you know what their remedy for this was? Call and try to order the boot and if it gets denied, then it wasn't covered. Can you frikken believe that. BCN does all they can to make everything difficult or impossible. I wish I could give them negative stars. read more

This company has made many mistakes with billing, costing my partner and I over $2000 that should have been covered, and peace of mind about our coverage. We have called multiple times for multiple offenses, and they never know what is happening with their system. I had coverage, and my provider was in network, yet they did not know why the system wasn't agreeing to reimburse me. It went through several rounds of people, and was never resolved. Most recently, we were told we no longer had insurance, and when we called the provider multiple times, they did not know what happened, we were told our case was escalated, and yet it is still unresolved. My partner will need an MRI and surgery soon, and we have no idea if we're covered, or why we might not be. And no one at this company knows why or how to help. It feels absolutely helpless. Unfortunately, there is no alternative for us, since our providers only take BCBSM, so we're stuck. I wish their system worked, I wish they knew how to help, and I wish they didn't keep issues unresolved. read more

This company is either intentionally taking your money with no intention of paying for services on your behalf, or it is incompetent. Either way, if you have any other option, DO NOT GET Blue Care Network to cover your health needs. I needed physical therapy two years ago, and BCN paid some other company to send me a letter telling me I didn't need any more physical therapy. Which is odd, because the company was in California, and my foot, which was not better was in Michigan. And this company had never seen me, and both my foot, my doctor, and my physical therapist all said I still had a problem. Last year, surprise, still my foot isn't better, and again this time, they say no more visits are authorized. Which is strange, since I have a high deductible plan, and they haven't had to pay A SINGLE dollar this year for ANYTHING. So they're telling me, and the physical therapist, I don't need any more care, and I'm not allowed to pay for it!? I call them to find out why, and to see if I can get this decision changed, I was just on the phone with them for 40 minutes. At the end of which, I still don't have satisfaction, they're saying that physical therapist must not have submitted an authorization. This seems pretty doubtful, since the therapist says they did, and I believe them, one they seem honest, and since they're still in business, they know how to bill insurance companies. Now I'm on year three, after the doctor I saw wanted to do surgery, I got a second opinion, this doctor says physical therapy. I'm expecting of course for them to say I don't need it even though standing, and walking are painful, and running is not possible, and I'm only 41. I will definitely be posting updates with how they handle my needed treatment this year. read more

At 45 years old, having had health issues for the last 20...this is the absolute worst insurance company I have ever had to deal with. I even had to wait for prior authorizartion to have a carcinoid tumor removed from a sensitive area in my skull. I have to jump through endless hoops for almost every medicine my doctor prescribes, and many times they won't cover what I need at all. Horrible. Terrible company. My mother is 90. She received approval from the Doctor on Wednesday, December 30th at 11am to be moved to a nursing home for therapy. Blue Care Network did not get back to the nursing home approving the move. My mother was stuck until Monday, January 4th due to their poor service. Total lack of concern for there customer as they close for the holidays including New Years Eve Day! Excuse me but healthcare isn't that kind of business. No wonder they get rave reviews as such a wonderful place to have a job! I hope they all enjoyed their New Years Eve day off and they took off the day before and didn't get the job done. You do not pay up front at the Doctor and you believe everything is going to be a 20 or 15 dollar co pay, but you get a bill then, for the entire thing because lo and behold, even if its a family plan, one person can satisfy the entire deductible of 4600.00. If you go to the hospital, even on Dr.'s orders its another 20 percent on top of that which can literally break a person. This is the worst company I have ever encountered and would rather be at deaths door before I make another appt. Follow up care? Working for the State of Michigan which usually has the very best insurance coverage if you carry "Priority Health" as an insurance provider but if you decide to change to "Blue Care Network" to save a few dollars on the premium, you better think twice. The insurance is worthless and customer service is slim to none. Had to have a procedure at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, and got stuck with a 13k bill since they are claiming it is "out of network" even though they covered the initial visit. They skipped out on the major part which was the required procedure. Filed a grievance with Blue Care Network and they again denied my appeal. Instead of having a MD look at the grievance, they gave it to a DO to make the determination. Blue Care Network is full of rookies. Don't make the mistake I made and pick anything else other than Blue Care Network. A simple chiropractic adjustment is $40 cash and if you use Blue Care Network, you only save $6.00. The worst company. They cut off my benefits due to a "computer glitch" after double billing me. They then told me that I would be refunded for the entire amount because my plan was terminated. I had to pay for several prescriptions out of pocket. When I didn't get the refund I called back and they told me my benefits had been restored. I would have never found this out if hadn't called--they sent the letter restoring my benefits to a town in Michigan I have never even been to. At this point I decided this company was too incompetent to continue working with and canceled my plan. Because they had double-billed me, there were two months that they owed me back. They told me I would get a refund in 7 to 10 business days. Sure enough 7-10 business days go by and nothing happens, so I call special inquiries. They said "the reimbursement wasn't requested as we told you, we're sorry." They said I'd get the refund in another 7-10 business days. Sure enough, the refund doesn't come. I called back the woman I had spoken to who apologized to me the first time and have left her two voicemails. I have heard nothing back. Oh, and I filled out all the paperwork to get my prescriptions paid for when I thought I didn't have health insurance (but actually did). My request was denied. I'm at my wits end and am going to grieve them with the state consumer protection agency. This is too much. read more

Worst insurance ever. My work switched us over. Doesn't matter if procedures are clearly covered but they'll deny them and make you prove they're covered. We have won every grievance but still, one payment took 11 months before we got our money back for physical therapy. Oh and hot tip: sessions are not the same as visits. Ie. One PT visit may equal 3 sessions. Not the reason we were denied but seriously ask any doctors office and they will tell you how much this service sucks. read more

I have had BCN for years, they deny tests and raised the premiums for 2019 for family from 499.00 to 654.00. That's over 150.00 a month. I sure hope these new politicians keep their words about pensions and health insurance. The worse company ever i have seen in my life...i was a member through my employer..i got medicate in 11/2015..i was pregnant and i have been hospitlized almost all of december..i requset to cancel my insurance at december first..the cancellation process took over 3 weeks..in all bad situation i had.. they keep me busy calling them to cancel that****incurance..i was stuck in the hospital for 3 days waiting for autherization to go home with tpn..and because i still have that insurance the hospital couldnt bill my medicate..after all these bad days..last month in april2016 they send me *** letter asking me either i have to pay them$ 880 for services they paid after 12/1. Horrible. They paid my bills in 2016, then a year later pulled the money back from every provider. It's required by law that prenatal care in covered by your insurance, they are refusing to pay mine, and now I owe thousands for my prenatal care. When I called about my bills not being paid every answer was "it just shows that they were denied" & "I show you have coverage, I don't know why it was denied" IIIIIIIII am the one that had to figure all of this out bc they apparently could. Several hour long calls later, & 1 1/2 years after my claims they said the recovery department in reprocesssibg every claim & they will all be paid in the next 6 weeks. Fast forward 6 weeks, my full amount bills are still coming AND now with late fees AND GOING ON MY CREDIT REPORT! I call BCN at the 8 week mark (giving them extra time & the benefit of the doubt, & they say that days after they told me it would all be taken care of THEY DENIED ALL MY CLAIMS AGAIN!!! & didn't tell me. So I waited 8 weeks for their promise that didn't come through & is ruining my credit. This company is awful, doesn't have any reason for denying any of my claims & admits that they show active healthcare coverage. I pay them monthly but I would've saved money by not even having health insurance. I'm a nurse in a hospital I know the ins & outs of health insurance coverage & denying someone's claims for no reason is outrageous!
