Although, it's not the place for giants as there are low ceilings or if you're not good stairs as it's a bit like the Burrow from Harry Potter. The upstairs rooms on the top floor are deluxe double beds, with an ensuite, a large old fashioned bathtub, tv and complimentary tea and coffee. If you prefer a shower, the rooms located in the courtyard near the pub are the one for you. Make sure to take advantage of the barn style pub and restaurant, which serve up good quality seasonal food at reasonably prices if you're not after the usual pub grub. I enjoyed a classic beef burger which hit the spot and the tasting plate, accompanied by local beer and cider. For breakfast, there is proper cafe quality coffee and tea is by UK brand teapigs. There is a range of hot and continental options. I had the eggs royale, which exceeded my expectation of hotel breakfasts. After researching and sussing out a few places to stay, this one seemed the best, a real small town gem. I'll definitely be back!

The dining area is on two levels above the street level. The service is very friendly and prompt. Food is imaginative, delicious, but somewhat lacking in the oomph factor. The sautéed livers with pancetta on brioche was the winner among the appetisers. The server informed us that they were out of salmon and goats cheese, so two of the five appetisers were unavailable. The lamb with the neck croquette was well cooked, flavoured, but somehow didn't hit the spot. The rump was a tad dry. Probably just the wrong day. Well done on the dessert. Both the date pudding (they ran out of figs which were an addition to this one) and the ginger cheesecake, were very done. Great place to stop by if you're in the Mendip area.

The highlight however was the lovely food, a compact menu all beautifully cooked and presented with a Spanish flavour. Really excellent and well priced. Peta was a great host and all the staff were polite, prompt and efficient. Really enjoyed the suckling pig and selected cooked breakfast very enjoyable

Located between Frome and Radstock in the heart of the Somerset countryside this little gem of a country pub and restaurant takes some beating. Set in ample gardens in Lower Vobster with plenty of outside seating if the weather is kind to you, the welcome once inside is warm. The real ale on pump when I called in was Butcombe Bitter, a little local treasure from North Somerset and was as bright as a brass button and tasted as good as it looked. The menu is not vast but is varied; the fresh fish board is a highlight. The fish mixed grill offers great value, a selection of king prawns, scallops, with fillets of salmon, bream, and sea bass served with new potatoes and vegetables of the day all for under £20. My companion also plumped for a desert, Sticky Toffee Pudding which was light as feather with a sauce to match, all topped off with a couple of strawberries. The inn also has three quality letting bedrooms for those who may wish to linger a little longer, lunch, dinner, and breakfast maybe! For opening times and directions, see their website, http://www.vobsterinn.co.uk , the trip is definitely worth it!
