Biggest Bike Fair In. The. World…read more Cycling is my hubbies passion but I love the history, culture and craftmanship of hand made bicycles so getting to see so many in one place is amazing. Add in fashion shows, cycling holiday reps, demonstrations, and the chance to try out all sort of wacky bikes on the test track - it's no wonder 10's of thousands of people turn up. First and foremost this is a trade fair. There is virtually NOTHING to buy. (That's why I feel safe bringing my hubby!!!). The fair is trade only on Wed, Thurs, Fri but let's the public in for Saturday only. So why go if you can't buy? Most cycling gear is bought online which means you can't see/feel/touch it til it arrives in your post box. At Eurobike you can touch everything. Handlbars are mounted as if they were on a bike so you can test the drop, width of 100's of different makes and models. You can 'ping' wheels to see if they are strong or plasticcy. And, if you're my hubby, you can 'harass' the sales rep to find out exactly where each component is made and if they outsource any of the production. You also get to see new products - 6 months before it hits the shelf. And, because this is the BIGGEST bike fair, they get big names. Pinarello had THE bike that Bradley Wiggins broke the hour record on and Chris Froome's yellow Tour de France Bike. OK, our passion is with road bikes but there is something for everyone. Mountain bikes, city bikes, kiddie bikes, helmets, shoes, clothes, accessories..... Sounds Perfect? Well, there are a couple of little niggles. The bus from the train station is free (the 17 only, local buses you need to pay) but there is only 2 per hour and they are MOBBED. Also, not all exhibitors take the public day seriously and either don't stay or pack up early - so try to get round to your faves first before just random wandering. Luckily there is a EuroBike app that helps you track your faves. With that and comfy shoes, we managed to go round everything - so it is possible. Last niggle. Food is pretty rubbish. Like school cafeteria food. We pack a lunch and get our water bottles filled at the Camelback stand. Overall, it you're into bikes and nearby - definitely go. If you are thinking of making a trip from afar - you'll get more out of it if you have a mission - are you looking for a new bike or new wheels? You'll never have a bigger selection to scope out - or a better chance to speak to the experts behind the brands.
