The Salt Lake City Public Library is one of those buildings that makes you stop and look up the…read moremoment you walk inside. The modern design with all the glass and sky high ceilings is genuinely spectacular and makes the space feel open and energizing instead of quiet and stuffy. When I visited on a Saturday morning it was busy, which was actually really nice to see, with people reading, studying, and casually surfing the internet. It felt alive in the best way. I also enjoyed wandering through the different floors where there were interesting exhibits and old books on display that made browsing feel more like exploring. Add in the great views of the valley from the windows and it's easy to imagine spending a lot of time here if I lived nearby.

Free parking is located on the lower level, you can validate your ticket inside the library. Very clean bathrooms, customer service was awesome. This is probably one the best library that Ive visited. I normally visit a library when I'm in larger cities, its alot of fun. The library has different floors, beautiful art work, live working bee area, stores, food and a sunny rooftop! I visited during the summer months, so the views- mountains were unbelievable. I highly recommend a visit to all!

It's black and white and simple, but it's so pure and so to the heart of what the setting is all about: Squatters, one of the OG local breweries of Utah. On the far right hand side is the hops-for-a-beard dude created by Chuck Landvatter. Infused with color and holding a pint, this is another nod to the brewery. Finally, the piece added latest was by Tribune cartoonist Pat Bagley who created Lady Libeerty (get it) in celebration of free press and free speech. Her torch is especially cool as it covers a window and will illuminate from within at night. If you're here, you probably ought to go inside to Squatters and check it out. Whether grabbing a drink or just a bite, it's a great pairing with the mural.

This is just to clarify to the 4 people in the world who don't know--the local basketball team is the Utah Jazz.) We love you, Jazz. It's a tough night to write this, but with time I am certain the sting will fade. So let's focus on the love. On the joy. On the happiness that will certainly come. Oh, I'm not saying let's not look back. On the contrary, that's what this mural is all about. Looking back on 40 years of Jazz history. It's a collage of imagery celebrating some of the great moments of the basketball team, and some of the larger than life characters. "You gotta love it, baby," and Larry H, Big number 53 (RIP, Mark), as well as recent history with Spidey. The '92 All-Star game, 103-100... if you know, you know. I won't ruin all the surprises, but for hardcore Jazz fans this is like a big game of Where's Waldo except every little nugget is a hidden Waldo. The cartoonish figures and careful use of color are pretty awesome, so shoutout the artist Trent Call and his unmistakable style.

Also a bit of a warning, there is no free or validated parking on site. We ended up parking in a public lot nearby and paying a fee.

I'm talking dressed-up crowd, glitter everywhere, real champagne, and the kind of DJ who knew exactly when to drop Beyoncé, ABBA, and a surprise 2000s throwback that had all of us losing our minds. I came in thinking I might just sip something bubbly and leave before midnight. Instead, I danced for four hours straight, made new friends, and now have a very blurry selfie that might become a family heirloom. The setting was gorgeous, by the way. Big open spaces, cool lighting, and just enough art and architecture to make you feel elevated while also clutching your clutch and screaming the lyrics to "Mr. Brightside." The vibe was party, but in a classy way. Like you could go full glam and not feel out of place, but also not feel judged if you kicked your heels off before midnight and went rogue on the dance floor. Which I did. No regrets. Would I go again? Already planning my outfit. 10 out of 10, would ring in the new year under a disco ball surrounded by Salt Lake's most unhinged and best-dressed again.

This mural is just the icing on the cake. It will take you a while to take it all in. There all little scenes all over, and it's placed on the loading dock door so I have heard that it might roll up and it's possible you'd miss it if the doors were open. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I've been here many times and never seen that. This is the kind of colorful splash that makes you want to jump in the air and have someone take a picture of you, mid-jump. It's the kind of bright and happy scene that makes you smile. I looked into it, and wanted to shout out the artist, Tracy O'Very Covey. I found the artist's website and read a bit about it. I had wondered what the medium was as it looked like it wasn't exactly painted on, and it turns out that it is indeed vinyl. This makes it none less impressive as you stare at a 12' x 42' wall. Do look around while you're there--there are lesser murals tucked into the corners of the square there, some now partially destroyed, some showing the many many layers of paint below, and some just small vestiges of past art projects.

Spent some time in Temple Square when I was in town this week for a conference…read more I learned about the Restoration from statues on the grounds, entered the tabernacle to view the massive organ inside, and was impressed by the architecture of both the Assembly Hall and the Temple, which is currently closed for restorations till April 2027, after which it will be open to the general public for 6 months. Will be back, as I wasn't able to attend the noon choir during this trip.

It occupies five city blocks in downtown Salt Lake City with historic sites, exhibits, gardens, monuments and statues. The highlight of our visit was seeing the beautiful Tabernacle, an engineering marvel that needs no microphones. Its acoustic qualities are so perfect that you can literally hear a pin drop. Oh yeah, our tour guides demonstrated that amazing quality for us. Our guides were young Mormon sisters who walked us through the grounds and gardens and talked about the four statues spread around the property. Without a doubt, this is a "must see" if you ever visit Salt Lake City.

We were looking to spend some time before we had an event that evening. It was a cool crisp afternoon, and the sun was shining. I think the thing I appreciated the most about this garden and arboretum was the sprawling space. There are many different loops and trails that you can take, some paved and some more natural. I enjoyed how they had different types of plants grouped or gathered together and the map they provided was extremely informative. This is definitely not an easy, walkable garden for individuals with limited mobility, with some of the hills being quite steep, but they are very clear about that on the visitor's map. Probably one of the nicer arboretums I have visited in the country and I would highly recommend for anyone visiting the area.
