His assistants, and the rest of his staff, are excellent and caring--very professional and personable. Dr. Henshaw made it interesting as he explained everything he was doing and what I could expect. I happen to enjoy a narrative like that, as it was very informative and relaxed me. I most definitely recommend him and his staff for fantastic care. Dr. Henshaw had purchased the business of Dr. Strong when Strong retired. The hygienists who carried over from Dr Strong were excellent. However, after year at the most all the staff from Dr Strong had left. The new hygienists who took over did significantly inferior perio cleanings compared to the previous hygienists. Further, I noticed almost every time I went to his office (approximately every 4 months) there was new staff working there. New receptionists, new assistants, new hygienists. Dr. Henshaw is a fine periodontist and a very smart man, but it kind of raised a red flag in my mind that with that kind of turnover he might not be the greatest employer to work for in the world.

Dr. Simonsen & staff, however, are so warm and inviting that it's almost impossible for my anxiety to show it's ugly head. From the initial contact requesting an appointment, the office manager, Caprice, was nothing but professional and prompt in response. RaeLinn, the clinical assistant, was very friendly and talkative, which kept my mind off of how long the XRay process was. She was very easy to talk to and helped to make my experience welcoming. "Dennis the Dentist" was a pleasure to meet and I'm actually looking forward to returning to his care. He took the time to understand my reservations about dental appointment, offer options for the care I needed and was thorough yet quick in his exam, which helped me to stay calm. Dr. Simonsen's office also took care of my husband's tooth (with an emergency appointment... no waiting!) when he lost a crown and they were amazing to work with then. Like a previous reviewer said, Dr. Simonsen called to check in with him after the procedure and offered his cell phone number, just in case we had any concerns. Without a doubt I will refer all of my friends and family to this office. They are above & beyond the best dental practice that I've ever had the opportunity of visiting.

He showed me before starting to remove it that it was actually fractured in 2 places and had an infection beneath it. No wonder I suffered for so long! He's brilliant, very caring, thorough, forthcoming in protective measures, and still young enough that he'll be my "go to" periodontist for the rest of my life!

He also told me there would be no charge for the second ct-scan. Worried about my single-tooth problem I endured the second scan. A week later: Dr. Hovey sat down in his office with me and started to talk, not about the tooth I was sent to him for, but something completely different, something that was not even discussed with me at my prior appointment: He did the second full mouth ct-scan without consulting me for his hidden agenda, to sell me a $ 5000.00 Lanap laser treatment for a periodontal problem I did not even know I had. Unsure if he really tried to scam me, I later went to another Periodontist (who also had this type of laser in his office) and this Periodontist positively confirmed that a Lanap laser treatment was not needed in my case. I felt Dr. Hovey tried to scam me into this expensive procedure with a fake diagnosis. The new Periodontist fixed a small problem for under $ 400 and I had no problem ever since. Before I left Dr. Hovery's office after the dreadful appointment, I ask him about the tooth the actual referral was written for... He answered, 'Oh, no problem found there' (meaning = no money made there). Unbelievable behavior and in my opinion anyone should stay away from this office. Reading Dr. Hovey's other one star reviews, it seems like I'm not the only patient Dr. Hovey was trying to pressure into a Lanap treatment. It is just to bad that some so called professionals can't be trusted.

As with all dental issues, my troubles have a history behind them: past root canal was done by another doctor years ago, and it was causing pain. Pain is a warning sign, so I wanted to get myself looked at. I was referred to Nguyen (Endodontist, also known as "Dr. Win" for easier pronunciation) & Garibov (Periodontist). They were fantastic! I say this being one of those people who generally strongly dislikes dentists, too. To run it down, I came into the office (on-time, unlike a previous review), handled my paperwork, and was quickly introduced to Dr. Win. He & I discussed my case, did a quick dental exam and CT scan, and then went over the particulars. As a part of this process, Dr. Win took the time to walk me through the results of my scan. I was, quite frankly, somewhat astounded, as most doctors don't bother to go that route. And I strongly appreciated Dr. Win's extra effort, here - it made me feel like I was a part of my own treatment rather than simply a commodity. Using the CT scan image, he showed where the problems in my mouth lay. We then discussed two options: a root canal to try to repair the remaining root, or extraction of the problem tooth. We agreed that trying to save the tooth was appropriate, and then he sent me over to Dr. Garibov so he could look at the affair from a different angle. Dr. Garibov was excellent as well. He performed an exam, explained what my issues were and what needed to be fixed, and looked at the problem tooth. We discussed the issue as well, and he agreed with Dr. Win's assessment. Off I went to schedule the surgery & sort out the financial details. I was then sent home to eat lunch, and later came back for my root canal. Dr. Win sat me down in the chair and made sure to numb me up so I wouldn't feel a thing, and then he got to work. Once he got my crown off & took a look, it became immediately obvious to him that saving the tooth wasn't going to be an option. The way my previous root canal was done made this impossible. Dr. Win stopped immediately & informed me, then set out to get Dr. Garibov involved once more: an extraction was needed. The folks at Polaris were so very considerate, too. Knowing that I didn't have the ability to reschedule thanks to upcoming travel plans that couldn't be delayed, they fit me in. Two procedures on the same day - color me impressed (and incredibly appreciative). I waited around a little while while Dr. Garibov handled other patients, and then, when he was ready for me I was brought back for procedure number two. It went smoothly, as Dr. Garibov and the nurse assisting him clearly knew what they were doing. It wasn't an easy day, given the medical troubles and the logistics associated with sorting me out. The staff at Polaris handled this with aplomb. They were caring, considerate, pleasant, and a joy to interact with. Dr. Garibov even called me the next day to make sure that all was well - even on his day off. That's just what I want to see from a doctor, as it shows a certain dedication. If ever I need a root canal or extraction done, I plan to come back. I'm glad I heeded the positive reviews found elsewhere, as this dental work could have been much more troublesome. If you guys at Polaris read this, THANK TOU!
