Yes yes yes! Drive…read moreup, or walk from picturesque iron bridge, and pay in (with a gorge passport to get more bang for your buck if you fancy the other nearby museums or visiting more than once) and enter up the spiral staircase, through the dark industry introductions, and into the sun at the edge of the little town. You may be tempted by the little cafe on the left as you enter, but personally, I would ignore this and head to the bank. You can change new money for old, with a little helping guide sheet about how much your halfpennies and farthings are worth, and into the museum. The shed opposite often contains activities, candle dipping, or plays, and victorian carolling near christmas. You can find a post office (with a museum upstairs), an outfitters, sweetshop, woodturners, fish and chip shop, butchers, blacksmiths, school, candlemakers, printers, tinsmiths, photographers (unfortunately with a digital camera rather than silver baths, but still), green grocers, bakers, squatters cottage, doctors, dentists, church (where you can actually get married) and those are just the staffed buildings, where you can often find demonstrations or people in the know, with plenty of others too. You can buy products, with your victorian money of course, and it doesn't feel like they're just trying to make money off you, there's efforts with everything to make them look genuine, and a lot of things made by the staff themselves too, which is far more impressive than buying it in. There are sing-a-longs in the pub (yes, a proper pub, with beer and everything) every day, and so much tasty food where you don't have to go through the cafes for if you don't want to. Its a bit hilly to get down the the shipyard, the incline and the funfair, which is complete with a coconut shy and carousel among other treats and games, but if you don't fancy that there's always the horse bus. It's a good look into life, engineering and culture, along with all the little historical professions. It's excellent education for kids, but it's lovely for grownups too, extra entertained by some of the slightly cheeky old advertising. And if all of that isn't good enough, I took a die hard northerner last week, and he said it's better than beamish!!! Suck on that!

Once you've collected your farthings and shillings, head on over to the general grocer or the pharmacy if you need a tonic or remedy for an ailment. Certainly pop on into the local pub for a meat pie and libations if you find your self famished. This place was so unique and everything I hoped it would be! Be sure to get here early because it takes a whole day to see everything.

This is a fantastic place to visit…read more Its a working museum with people dressed in traditional clothing and set in a life style victorian village. There is a bank where you can exchange money for 'old' money to spend in the various shops etc. There is a chemist, schoolhouse and you can attend a lesson, a farm area, a blacksmith, ironmonger, printers, butcher, baker and yes a candlestick maker! You can buy pies and pasties etc and bread and cakes all freshly baked that day on the premises. There is an old fashioned sweetshop with all your old favourites and a village pub with a piano for a great sing a long. Our daughter loves it when the village bobby comes in to do a spot of singing. Its a really great fun day out and one we have done many times and never tire of. I asked our daughter if she had the choice of Alton Towers or Victorian Village which she would choseVictorian Village won hands down. They are investing more into the village over the last year and from Spring it will have even more, we will be back in Spring to see, i believe they are installing a narrowgauge mining train to tie in with the mine and many other things. You can buy day tickets or annual passes which represent great value as you can not only go as often as you wnat over a year they also include entrance to all the other Ironbridge Gorge Museums. There are loads more things i havent emntioned, wouldnt want to ruin your surprises! - You will love this place i'm sure.

This place is a firm favourite for me…read more I visited this place for the first time about twenty years ago, and I have been back several times since. All the museums are excellent, I have tiles from jackfield, clay flowers from coalport, and so many happy memories from blists hill, *enginuity etc. If you get a passport, you can get more for your money and head to all of the museums several times, and it's great education into historical life and industry in the area whether for children or adults. I've happily taken lots of people here, and everyone has enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

The Blists Hill Victorian museum recreates a working Victorian village on this site in Ironbridge…read more A lot of the buildings have been moved brick by brick to their new location including the chemist and the Forrest Glenn pavilion. When you enter through the eighties looking visitor centre, you are immediately in another time. You can exchange your money for LSD coinage (that's Pounds, Shillings and Pence) which you can then spend in the shops. The chemist is a Bates & Hunt (i can still remember when they had a chemist in Wellington) and provides a fascinating insight into what life was like - have a look at the posters for some of the more sinister aspects, along with the barbers chair - complete with worn arm rest from where people would have gripped it. The printers shop is another marvel - it's amazing to see what we have today, compared to what was used in the 19th century, unfortunately its always been closed whenever i've visited. They have a new steam powered lift to the mine which sounds very much like the Tardis - i'm wondering if a similar device was the inspiration behind the BBC sound effect workshop. Even if you've been before then museum is worth going to again as you will always see something new.

The Iron Bridge, located aptly in the town of Ironbridge, is classified as a World Heritage Site…read more Mainly, the influence of the area (and presence of iron ore within the Gorge) contributed to the birth of the industrial revolution. When the bridge was erected, in 1779, it was the first of its kind, anywhere! Quite the feat! Read up on it more, here: http://www.visitironbridge.co.uk/world-heritage-site The town itself is beautiful and quaint. We went on a Saturday afternoon, the weather was warm and lovely and I didn't feel claustrophobic walking around despite the presence of loads people. The walk is next to the the River Severn with lush trees and wildlife. Stunning place, really. I can't even begin to describe all the picture taking locations. I also noticed that events and activities are held year round. They offer an annual pass, too. We didn't purchase tickets to any of the 10 museums (10 museums!!!) but that might be nice to try out another time. The history of Ironbridge really fascinates me. Take a camera, you'll need it!!

Iron Bridge is a village near Telford which has the first iron bridge ever made…read more The village is beautiful, cute little cottages, B&B's, cafes and antique shops surround the river severn, beautiful greenery and friendly locals. My boyfriend and I went to Iron Bridge to see the infamous bridge and visit the museum. When we arrived we realised there are actually lots of different small museums and attractions for which you really need a full day. I would recommend this for a day trip, particularly for those with an interest in engineering. The bridge itself is very impressive and in beautiful surroundings, the only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars is that the museum entry is very expensive. Just for one small attraction it costs £4, to visit them all you're looking at about £30 which seems hefty.
