Do you want to have that small school experience where you know everyone in your grade and can be friends with absolutely everybody? If yes, this is the school for you. It is currently a 2A school, and slowly grows in numbers each year.
The great things
-Sr. High Boys Basketball: It may be the make up of our players on the team, the work the coach puts into their practices, or both, but Blevins has had a great basketball program for the last 5 years, and for the last 3 the boys have gone to state.
-Agri: A new Agri building that was built during last year is in use this year. With green house repairs under way as well, whatever your agricultural desire may be, it can be accomplished here.
-Education: In 2012, Blevins was nationally recognized as a Bronze Medalist in the U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools Report. U.S. News & World Report also places the teacher to student ratio at a 1:10, as far as the student body is concerned. Classroom wise, you may at the most have 20 kids in a class.
ACT: As of last year, we have an ACT prep Class that can be taken as an elective class. The school also gives the ACT test on the appropriate test dates. If you want a class that solely goes over preparing for the ACT and to take the ACT in a small environment, I strongly suggest Blevins.
Clubs and Organizations: Blevins has a wide variety of clubs to join, such as Art Club, Beta Club,FBLA, FCCLA, National FFA Organization, Quiz Bowl, Student Council, Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Yearbook.
And The Not So Great:
-No football: sadly, we do not have a large enough student body to have a football team. According to some sources, if the school jumped to 3A numbers, then the school would be fully capable of starting a football program.
-No band: Without football, we have no band. Sure, we have music class, but we do not have a marching band or any kind of band program yet.
-Closed Campus: Want to go grab some food at the Hornet Hut (burger place) for lunch? Only if you check out, because at Blevins you can not leave campus at lunch unless you check out.
-Online English for Senior Year: Because we have no Senior English teacher, students are left with two options, either online comp or online 12th grade english. The good thing about this is that the computer lab is big and full of computers, and classes are usually small in the computer lab.
Overall: 4/5. Blevins is pretty great. One of the things I can really recognize Blevins for more than any other school I have ever been to, is that Blevins is very accepting of new people. If we had a kid from another school come here because of bullying issues and getting away from that, they will suddenly find themselves with a new swarm of friends. Anybody, preppy kids, nerdy kids, sporty kids, Blevins students do a real good job at making new students feel welcome. There are plenty of other great things at Blevins, and it is honestly the perfect school for anybody to attend. read more
