I was a little bleary-eyed when I visited Gather because I hadn't slept much: The Historic Wolf Inn is haunted, if you didn't know! It's also across the street from a train track and the trains like to blow their horns at all hours. Gather was where I "gathered" myself to face the day ahead of me. I got a big cup of black coffee (it was delicious) and a breakfast burrito, because I'm always intrigued by other restaurants' interpretations of what they believe to be a breakfast burrito. This one was fine -- it came with scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and cheddar cheese. It needed a little hot sauce, but I wasn't given any and I also couldn't find any. This restaurant is small and family-owned, with lots of tables to sit at and spread out. One thing they need to consider fixing: They have one restroom, and there's no lock on the door! And the restroom is located in the middle of the dining room. I visited the restroom and prayed that no one would come in while I was in there (no one did, luckily). I'm hoping they get that lock situation fixed soon.

Luckily, they did and so much more! I was actually quite surprised at the amount of inventory in this small space. It doesn't feel cramped but they definitely put in a good amount and variety of product. I was quite shocked at some of the finds because tbh, I didn't think a small town in Kansas would have some of the things this store had. The produce section looked fresh and clean. We bought a bagged salad but they also had really nice, fresh fruits and veggies. We wanted watermelon but it was too big for the two of us on vacation but turns out they have cut portions in the fridge. If you've never tried black diamond watermelon, do so. They didn't have a huge takeaway section but we bought some sandwiches and snacks in case we didn't have time to eat out (everything closes early around here). We also get premade sandwiches at my job and let me tell ya this sandwich blew my work sandwich out of the water. The most shocking thing I found was that they have mochi ice cream! I was not expecting that. The service is great. Both times we were in the person working treated us like friends which can make for sure a pleasurable experience.
