If you have a vintage Datsun you should be well aware of this place…read more I found out about Doug and his team from Scroggins Machine Shop, another highly recommended place, and lets just say had I known about them I would not have taken my 76' 280Z any other place first. My car was what could only be described as mechanically "rough"; I bought it about a year ago as somebody else's project and managed to get it running but just barely. Basically, the head needed rebuilding and was in need of a valve job, the engine itself needed rebuilding, the fuel system needed replacing, as well as the brakes and electrical components to get it street legal. Awesome Z was thorough and thoughtful about the whole thing and comparatively speaking surprisingly affordable. There are shops in Houston that say they work on Datsuns but Awesome Z really has a passion for them. Go in there shop and all you'll see are S30 chassis, some S130s, and occasionally more modern Z cars. You'll also find a crew very knowledgeable about the cars they work on will give you plenty of options on which way you want to take your build. I can't wait to continue working with them, they definitely have a customer for life.

After a few…read morehours, of probing, testing, finger biting, cursing, nearly electrocuting my friend and tool throwing I found out that my starter wire was bad. The wire from the starter to the starter solenoid had to be replaced. Being referred to Cal Electric from an electrician who doesn't deal with 12V systems, I gave Robert (the manager) a call. I described my problem over the phone and he quickly told me that he would be able to help me. I grabbed my starter and bolted to Cal Electric. Robert looked at my sad starter and told me it would cost 35.00 to fix and it should only take an hour or so. I was excited because a new starter would cost me 250.00. When I came back to pick up my starter, it became the smiling starter as Robert fixed the broken wire and only charged me 30.00! He even tested the starter and the starter solenoid for me too! This place is very professional and I was very satisfied with the work. Now that I've got the starter system fixed, I need to start looking at the ignition system. =( I would appreciate any advice from fellow yelpers that are mechanics or would like to help me! =)
