Recently, 3 of my friends and I traveled to Ohio. We went up and back in 2 days from St. Louis to West Union to see a friend of ours. The town was cute, and being from a small town myself, I really enjoyed the history I was able to take in... which brings me to Blake Pharmacy. This pharmacy has been in the Blake family for many, many years, and while it has many charms that you expect to see in a small town pharmacy such as a soda fountain. RadioShack, friendly people, and regular drug store items. I was told they have added some high-tech automation to serve the customers better. At this point, a few things probably caught your eye...soda fountain and RadioShack. I took a lot of photos. I thought RadioShack had closed but not in an aisle here. We even found a really cool speaker system that is from RadioShack, which is the perfect birthday present. The soda fountain even has some food, and I tried the pimento cheese that is made fresh each morning, and it was very good. They eat it with potato chips, which is strange to me because I would choose crackers, but hey, they also love Skyline Chili, so...um... I'm kidding!! Anyway, if you find yourself in West Union Oh-hi-a (as they say it there), stop in, grab a shake at the sofa fountain, and sit and people watch... then go to the Blake Hallmark Store next door. read more

Blakes pharmacy's is the best kept secret in Adams County. Stop by the soda shop for a nickle coke, dollar shake or float or grab an ice cream for 30 cents a dip. Make it a meal with a sandwich and chips for just over a buck. Great service and a setting that reminds you of years long ago. read more

Full disclosure - this review is ONLY for the vintage soda fountain in the back of the store. The pharmacy seemed lovely, but HOLY SMOKES you have to go to West Union, if only to visit this soda fountain. I almost don't want to tell you how completely amazing it is, because what if you go? What if everyone goes? And the quaint, quirky charm is lost? Promise if you go, you'll be nice, and relatively discrete, so this national treasure remains innocent and unsullied. Okay - the scoop. Literally. Milkshakes, malts, sundaes - $1. Pimento cheese sandwich - also $1. Tiny Coke - a nickel. Oh, you've never tried a marshmallow Coke? You can try this exceptional regional delicacy for only 0.60! All this and more is served up by a rotating cast of cheerful, talkative, characters, guaranteed to make you feel like you've been coming for years. Things to know: -Although the pharmacy is open later, the soda fountain closes at 430p. -They do take credit cards, but there's a $2 minimum (which equals 40 nickel Cokes. This place is a true treasure. It is an old school, independently owned and operated pharmacy. That alone is enough for five stars... as the big corporate pharmacies are gobbling these guys up, left and right! It has a Radio Shack in it... yup, a Radio Shack that made it thru the mass closures. Then, drumroll please...... it has an old fashion soda fountain!!! The service is great, with a friendly, attentive and talkative soda jerk at your service! The selection is great, prices are RIDICULOUSLY cheap!!!!! They even have sandwiches, that are good and also RIDICULOUSLY cheap!!!!! Sidenote, the two 2-star reviews offered up on here were clearly written by women who are out of touch with reality (the nicest way I can say it). read more

*WARNING* Soda fountain is only open until 4:30pm. The ads in visitors guide are misleading saying the hours are until 8pm. ** Wish I had read previous review before stopping, but didn't have great cell service so we drove out here anyways. Was hoping for a nice vanilla coke, but alas it was 5pm and the soda fountain was closed. Honestly it didnt look like much anyways to make it worth the drive. The place was just a pretty small run of the mill local drug store. read more

What a great place to go! Every time I walk in there I smell cookies baking, and if that isn't enough, everyone is always so friendly! I can leave my Doctors office and drive five minutes down the road and my prescriptions are ready. I'm amazed at the professionalism and speed of the people who work in a clearly busy place. The people from out of town who complain about the times? It's a small town. We still value time with family. I can't wait to take my grand daughter here so she can see what an old fashioned lunch counter looks like. read more

Saw ads in the visitors guide and we're excited to go to an old fashioned soda jerk fountian. okay no. they just get it out of a coke .machine on the counter and have the soda jerk visible. So I drove 40 mins out of my way to check this out. twice. We came the day before at 5 and the soda fountain was closed but the pharmacy was open. So we came back the following day not wanting to miss out on such a unique experience. The drinks are tiny but only cost a nickle. Milkshake was ok. we got a ham and cheese sandwich. on cheapo bread with American cheese and cheap deli ham. I guess for only $3 for two soda a shake and a sandwich it was a good price. but definitely disappointed. Also the gas station fountain soda down the street tasted better read more

Blake's Pharmacy Soda Fountain is 'Awesome'. You step right into a time warp and you are way back there sipping a soda after school. Two sodas, a great sandwich and a two scoop ice cream cone for $2.48. It is well worth a visit and ask them the location of the other soda fountain shop in Ohio. read more

Can't let being there pass without comment. Driving around enjoying fall leaves and Adams County and stopped at Blake's. Went to the soda fountain and had an ice cream soda for a $1. Are you kidding me? To top that off, the soda jerk Louise was the best. Enough to renew one's faith that there's still "service" in a service industry. read more
