Not only do we receive books much more quickly that often required weeks or months of holds at the Omaha library, the staff is incredibly friendly. As they transition to being in a larger facility the main library and children's library are open at two different locations walking distance from each other, and due to staffing are open at alternating times, as long as you know that and check the schedule before heading out it is never a problem. They do all kinds of events at each one of the locations geared towards kids and adults alike.

The time I went with her was especially fun, and one of her regular past times: wherein kids read books to dogs! Once a month or so, a group of well-trained dogs sits while kids read books to them. It is a wonderful way to promote a love for books, especially for animal lovers. I hope this program continues. One thing I do remember, and just verified, is that non-Gretna residents have to pay $40 to get a library card here.

My daughter and I spent awhile upstairs in the kid's area. They have some cute plastic food toys with a kitchen attached to the wall. Even though she's older that kept her entertained for quite some time. The staff were very nice and had fun chatting with her. The pickup area for books was very organized. Their bathrooms were also clean. My ONLY complaint was parking. We got there very early and parked on the East side of the building no problem. Later when we had to go get lunch their parking lot was full. We found they had additional parking on the West side but they were also full and the streets were packed. I know it was a Saturday, but I can imagine it being very frustrating to park. When we were leaving there was someone doing illegal substances in their van next to our car which was concerning to say the least and no I'm not talking about the devil's lettuce I'm talking about harder stuff. That isn't really the library's fault, but be aware of what's going on. I prefer Millard over A.V. Sorenson but it's not terrible.

As an alum, I couldn't be more proud to see how it's grown in the last few years. During my undergrad years in the early to mid 2000s, I spent my time bumping between classes, buildings and, for a while there, majors. There was always a friendly face, it seemed, willing to strike up a conversation in front of the student center or library or just waiting outside of a classroom. Back then, UNO was easing out of being an urban commuter campus. The first rounds of dorms had been built and the campus was just starting to come to life with around-the-clock amenities. Still, the school was entrenched in Division II sports, living in the shadow of UN-L and the Huskers just a few miles away in Lincoln. Now, UNO has a full fledged D-I sports program, riding high off of the hockey team's first appearance in the Frozen Four. Both the Dodge Street and Pacific Street campuses are rapidly filling in parking lots with new educational, administrative, recreational and residential buildings, anchored on the south end with Aksarben Village and the soon-to-be-opened Baxter Arena. At the end of my time at UNO, I wound up with an English degree and a great job shortly after graduating. I couldn't ask for much more than that. Funny thing, as good as I had it, there's no better time than right now to be a Mav!
