I love that it's maintained very well. You can thank the Mushroom Trust for that. On a cool November day, it was a nice little retreat from the Royal Mile. It's very quiet in there, and maybe due to the high walls of Canongate Kirk. It's a nice pass thru for locals walking through from neighboring businesses. It's lovely to pass by the manicured shrubs and to see falling autumn leaves. I think I saw an herb garden as well. The Canongate Mercat Cross is also there as you walk further into the garden. I'd be here daily if I lived or worked nearby. It's just one of those hidden gems that deserves a visit when on Canongate.

Saughton Gardens are one of those places you can only really stumble upon by accident as you rarely…read morehear anything about it and is one of those hidden gems that you never expected to find. The gardens themselves are very well done and clearly laid out by someone who knows what they are doing with a large proportion of it highly influenced by traditional Tudor styles and includes a large rose garden. Really this is your typical show garden broken down into the standard components and the old house really finishes it off. What does stand out a bit is the tropical greenhouse area and that is certainly worth a visit while you are here. It doesn't get very busy here making it very peaceful so it does offer a great place to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

Why why why??!! The tropical plant house is small compared to botanical gardens but is packed with bird of paradise flowers and other wonderful flowers. Follow through and you have the walled gardens, which I have yet to explore due to time commitments. But I will be back, oh yes! Toilets need a proper clean sand one does not have a lock! Thankfully it is now back, brighter and cleaner, and looks all the better for its time away. The iconic wrought iron-faced glasshouse is an iconic symbol of the West End and houses a variety of plant life and sculptures, as well as a small fish pond which always provides the most entertainment for younger visitors. The intricacies of the plant life on offer here may be lost on me, but a stroll around here never fails to relax you. For that rteason alone it's good to see the palace back in its rightful place.

For those of you who haven't the Gardens feature lovely curved red sandstone walls with moulded cope framing each end of the sunken 'Italian Garden'. There are masonry piers and steps leading down from the cobbled carriageway at the rear of the Art Gallery and Museum. A wander round here is the perfect way to get some fresh air and end a day of art and historical appreciation in the Galleries.

Sure, we do learn that Glasgow has the world's 3rd oldest subway system - yet a lot is geared around the jobs people had, the lifestyles over time, the impact of wars, housing, and the neighborhoods. Took about 45 minutes for me to cover the 3 floors. I didn't do the interactive stuff though. Better for adults than kids.

The people's palace showcases exhibits of the times of the steamie, life in the old tenements of Glasgow and the achievenments of boxer Benny Lynch. There were exhibits about alcohol and its effects, prison and what it would be like in a cell, the famous Barrowland and what it was like back in the day, there were even exhibits about the war and a real air raid shelter i was able to sit in and other fascinating pieces in this museum. The museum however seems a little stale, some things were a bit tatty and exhibit doors falling loose and the cafe could use a bit of TLC and be a bit more modernised but as a whole it's a great place to visit.

No, these gardens are, undoubtedly smaller. However, they should definitely not be overlooked. Though, they are slightly out of the way and can be easily missed if you are not specifically looking, or rather hunting. Despite this, they are worth a visit and there's something for almost everyone. Garden, plant and flower wise there are : The Rose Garden; The Walled Garden; The Woodland Garden; The Rhododendron Garden and the more intimate, Private Garden. This last garden is situated int he immediate vicinity of Pollok House and surrounding the land at the back and side of it. It's mainly simple designs of small trimmed hedges - set on a wider gravelled area - with beds of colours pansies inside. While, the other gardens are slightly further along and in the direction of the Old Courtyard Stables to the left of the House. You can access these through a stroll along the main grassy aisle which has stone pillars at both the beginning and the end of its length. Additionally, for the duration of it's length the lining beds are filled with a variety of hostas in the summer. Avid gardeners, and the majority of adults, will enjoy investigating the more formal gardens which are at the end of this green pathway. Meanwhile, young kids can enjoy running through the tiny trails between the mini hedges; and for older kids there is also ample lawn space scattered around on which they can happily play without any disturbance.
