The cocktails and afternoon teas here are sublime, cocktails can end up being expensive but really quirky. Service is always really good too. Incredible value for money with what you get with your afternoon tea. I was taken here by a very good friend for a pre-xmas treat. The Edgbaston has a lovely menu of different flavoured teas. Before our tiered platter of finger sandwiches and mini cakes arrived, we were presented with an aperitif of elderflower and apple, served in a glass within a bowl of dry ice which then had apple & elderflower juice poured around it to "awaken our smell" senses. Sorry to ruin the surprise! I couldn't smell it but loved the drama and theatre of all the dry smoke pouring out of the bowl on to our table. The sandwiches were lovely (they catered for my friends dietary requirements too), the cakes were scrumptious, especially the salted caramel puff was simply delicious, and then we were served scones some with and some without raisons and jam & cream. Quintessentially British in a very trendy setting i'd say. Thoroughly enjoyed it and at £20per person (this was the no alcohol option) I thought it was very good value. I will definitely go back and sample the alcoholic option :)

We booked in for the last day of the Festive Tea. From the moment I walked in, I was blown away by the sheer beauty of this place. We were seated promptly and each given an explanation of the menu. We each went with the Moseley Serve which is the afternoon tea with all the trimmings plus a fancy cocktail (£32 each). As they were still in the festive spirit, they were offering Christmas cocktails. I had In A Pear Tree which was the sweeter of the two offered, with gin, honey, and pear. It was garnished with two slices of dried pear. Great start to the afternoon. As many have mentioned, the china used is beautiful and ornate. It accompanies the dining room perfectly. Even the sugar bowl was visually appealing with cute little bird claw tongs. Everything looks very vintage and was in pristine condition. I was pleasantly surprised at the amuse-bouche that was brought out prior to our cakes and sandwiches. I've never seen anything presented like this at an afternoon tea before. It's a pretty special presentation. It made me feel like I was dining at a Michelin starred restaurant! Now for the food. There were 4 types of sandwiches. I can't remember exactly, but pretty standard sandwiches that you would expect. The cakes, however, were truly exceptional. We were told they were all made in house. They were so pretty I didn't want to eat them. There were a few flavored meringues, macaroons, a mince pie and a boozy rum tart. Very festive and quite good. This is the first time that I ever had afternoon tea and actually enjoyed ALL THE FOOD! Scones (plain and fruit) were brought out last for us with the cream and jam served in adorable but hard to scrape out jars. We were told to dig in as they were nice and warm..but our scones were not warm at all. None the less they still tasted great. The only reason I refuse to give this place full on 5 stars is the service. For the price point and atmosphere I expected top notch service. Our hot water ran out in both tea pots and we were never offered a top up although the menu mentions unlimited hot water top ups for tea. Dirty dishes and glasses were not cleared so our small table was over crowded. It also seemed odd that there wasn't a coat check. Our baggy winter coats were left shuffled next to me on the bench seating. Despite this, everything else was fantastic. They have a fantastic looking cocktail menu. I am hoping they come up with a new seasonal tea soon so I have a reason to try The Edgbaston again!

Upon entering the bar you come into a really cool area which is split into lots of different of quirky themes with bird cages, funky chairs and guess what games boards dotted everywhere - yes it's a bar but feels like the coolest hangout ever. The bartender was super accommodating and in creating two delicious mocktails especially for us. Be sure to check out the happy hour deal which is one 5-7pm. What's great is that this place was not busy for a Friday night, maybe because people don't know about it, so you could quite hideaway for a few hours. Looking forward to heading back here soon. This bar is a really fun place to be and I imagine, as the night goes on, that it would be oh so easy to lose track of both time and cocktails. My band recently played music here as part of the Birmingham Jazz and Blues festival and it was really great to play in such a unique venue. Next time I'm in Birmingham, cocktails in Suds & Duds will surely be on my agenda!

Unlike in the London bars, this place is clearly about good friends coming out to have a good time. A great mix of the older and younger lesbian and a very friendly and un-predatory place. We managed to wander in on Karaoke night (score), and there's nothing about really getting a feel for the place when people are warbling bad pop tunes down a microphone. There was a nice enough selection behind the bar and a few drink offers. There's a large beer garden with plenty of seating, a main bar area with a dinky DJ booth and another room with the obligatory pool table and additional seating. Surprisingly, there's only one toilet - and all night I had no problem in going for a tinkle. I wish I could move this bar down south with me, but I can't. And if I ever return to ole bham- I will certainly pop in again.

To Whom It May Concern, Be At One - Birmingham…read more I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the treatment my group received at your Birmingham venue on the evening of Saturday 5th July, at approximately 9:00 PM. We were a group of four professional, sober, over-40s men, all looking forward to enjoying a relaxed evening. One member of our group, my cousin, entered the venue without issue. However, when my brother attempted to follow, he was refused entry on the grounds that he did not have physical ID. While he did not carry a hard copy, he presented a clear and valid image of his passport on his phone. Despite this, the door staff refused to accept it -- even though it clearly showed his identity. When we attempted to calmly question this decision, we were told that only physical ID would be accepted -- a policy that, while perhaps enforceable, could have been communicated more respectfully. I then attempted to enter the venue with my physical photo ID, simply to retrieve my cousin who was already inside. Surprisingly, I was denied entry on the grounds that "no single entries" were allowed -- a confusing and inconsistent response given that my cousin had just been allowed in alone moments earlier. When I questioned this, the bouncer smirked and continued to dismiss us rudely. What was more disturbing was the behavior of a woman whom we understood to be the manager. When we raised our concerns with her, she laughed at us and offered no explanation or assistance. This kind of mocking, unprofessional behavior from a member of management is wholly unacceptable. Eventually, we were told that none of us would be allowed entry, without any legitimate justification. We were left feeling disrespected, discriminated against, and deeply disappointed by the staff's unprofessionalism. I urge you to review this incident, including any CCTV or bodycam footage from your door team that evening. At the very least, I would appreciate a formal response addressing: Your policy on accepted forms of ID (including digital copies), Clarification around the "no single entries" rule, and An explanation for the behavior of both the bouncer and the manager on duty. I hope this complaint is taken seriously. We expected a safe and welcoming environment but instead experienced inconsistency, rudeness, and what felt like discrimination. I look forward to your response and a meaningful explanation. Yours sincerely,

I attended the opening of Be AT One last night and have to say i'm impressed. As I was not drinking I went for a reese's milkshake.....it was pretty epic. I love reese's anyway they are like my absolute guilty pleasure....that orange glow on the confectionary counter regularly gives me life....and in a milkshake it does not disappoint. Calorific but as a little treat why not! Our bar server was friendly and chatty and was quick to serve the drinks and offer any explanation we needed. The music was ok but the lighting in the venue was really something. Pink flashes of light down the walls give a nice high energy effect without being too intrusive/clubby. As I was writing this I am going from a four to a five star.....as cocktail bars go what more can you ask for. Great selection, friendly staff, prime location and as far as I understand it they are opening late a lot of the week. A very welcome edition to Birmingham that i'm am sure will be here for a long time. Go and take a look!

Where else could you go for cocktails like these? I tried so many classic and more unusual cocktails for the first time at Island Bar when everyone else was just doing Mojitos, Cosmos and Long Island Ice Teas. The music is great and it generally has a friendly atmosphere- though not always, depending on what night you're there. There are two levels- a tiki bar upstairs and a more rock'n'roll bar downstairs. The tiki cocktails are really strong and I love the design. There's a bit more room up there too for dancing. I've had so many great nights here over the years, including birthdays, New Year, pre-old Snobs cocktails and just random 'why not' nights. The menu changes regularly and the prices are reasonable. I've always found staff friendly but I feel they've become friendlier as time has gone on. Service has also got quicker. I still always have a good night at Island Bar, and appreciate what it did for Brum's cocktail scene.
