Black Dolphin Jazz Club is awesome. Super cool vibe, great live music, and just a really fun spot overall. It's the kind of place that makes a night out feel different in the best way. In a city full of jazz, black dolphin still stands out. They perfectly encapsulate the ritzy, classy lounge that you'd expect to find in 50s/60s KC. The jazz artists are amazing! I was fully immersed into the music and the way the room is set up allows for optimal listening at all angles. The cocktails I tried were amazing. I had the lady loves chai, which I ordered a second round because I loved it so much! We also ordered the pink lady and the horse feather which were great. Black dolphin feels like a moment in time, while still bringing a modern take to the jazz scene in KC. read more

Cool ambiance. However got here just after midnight on a Sunday night (Monday morning). Doorman said no more live music for the night, but still charged a $10 cover. WTF is up with that?!?! Got an old fashioned at the bar. Definitely not a mixology bar. Basic red cherry and regular ice. So don't waste your money on cocktails. read more

Friends brought us here on a whim for a nightcap and we ended up staying a while! The ambiance was incredible, I loved the beautiful lamps. The table service was nice so there were no crowds to fight to get a drink. We sat towards the back so we could hear the music playing but still have light conversations. The dance floor was so cute, we loved watching couples dance. The live music was amazing as well. I wish I took pictures of just how beautiful this place was! read more

If you have heard of the Green Lady lounge, then let me introduce you to her sister jazz club, Black Dolphin. They are next to each other but you need to pay close attention or you walk past the Black Dolphin like I have done many times. It's smaller than the Green lady but damn does the Black Dolphin have its own vibe. Relaxing, dark, great drinks, excellent service and incredible music. There is $5 cover and two bathrooms (single stall each). FYI they have the same drink menu as Green Lady lounge. Definitely will be coming back to this place again. read more

We visiting our son and he took us to do this Jazz club and it was fantastic! We had a table front and center and the music was great. The performing musicians were very welcoming towards us and even sat down and talked to us! The drinks were great and the music and atmosphere were perfect! We will definitely be returning to the Black Dolphin again on our next visit to KC. If your ever in Kansas City be sure to stop by this Jazz club it is really a hidden gem. read more

Kansas City is known for its vivid diverse cultural jazz music played in many jazz clubs scattered throughout the city. Had the opportunity to see my high school music professor performed atBlack Dolphin. There was a small cover charge to enter the jazz club, but all good. I very much enjoyed the seating arrangement. They had tables and chairs as well as a bar area. I sat very close to the musicians as I wanted the best up close and personal experience. Let me tell you if jazz music is your thing then I would highly recommend visiting here. For drinks, I ordered two Moscow mule and oh my god they were delicious. Considering I was there for two hours, it definitely hit the spot. Haha!!! I was super hungry, but they didn't serve food so I was able to get some chips which was just perfect and complimented my drinks and the good jazz vibe. My waitress was delightful and kept checking up on me to make sure everything was going good. I appreciate the customer service as well. read more

I've been a long-time fan of The Green Lady Lounge and wanted to give the BD a chance to win me over. Which they did in about 30 seconds. I loved the nondescript business front, felt like I was going into a secret club. Once we paid our $5 cover charge and were seated we felt very at ease. We melted into the sofa-like booths and ordered our mocktails. the band played KC-style jazz all night. They sounded great and told some great stories. We definitely will be back! This place is very cool. For lovers of live music, jazz, and great cocktails. We got there early and the music was already going. The vibe is dark, cozy, a little mysterious, and overall very cool. The service was good and the drinks were even better. Highly recommend for a nice date night (if you already know your date). Not a great place to chat if you are trying to get to know someone. Visited this club at 8:00 on a Saturday night. There was a $5 cover per person; both card and cash accepted. The band was a 4-person jazz ensemble including bass, piano, sax/clarinet, drums. There were plenty of tables open and room to sit comfortably. The ambiance was amazing. The lighting was perfectly balanced, both dimly lighting the walkway and decorating the ceiling space. We were served drinks promptly and checked on frequently by our waiter. But the stars of the show... the musicians were so entertaining! The pianist MC'd the show, where each musical piece was introduced with little quips and informative tidbits. We very much enjoyed our time here! Ended up here because Green Lady Lounge was full and I am not mad at all about it! It's a smaller vibe because it's only 1 story but I loved it. There was plenty of seating for our group of 6, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a good crowd! The music was great and so were the drinks. I don't drink and they had a great non-alcoholic menu. I'm pretty sure there was only one person on the floor grabbing drink orders, so we found it was easiest to just get up and go to the bar. Totally recommend and will be back! read more

I had suggested going to another jazz bar but was recommended coming here. I was glad we did because it had more open seating but similar vibes! Our server was so nice, and took wonderful care of us! Live music was fun and the atmosphere is great. Seating is limited, but luckily we came and there were a couple tables open. $5 cover charge, which is typical. I would come back here! read more

Located next to the Green Lady Lounge, I decided to pop over to check out the Black Dolphin. The place was semi-packed and I was able to find a seat close to the stage. Beautiful setup - this place is really decadent. Unfortunately there was one waitress for the entire place and I wasn't greeted until about 15 minutes into being there. The waitress kindly apologized but it wasn't her fault - the place is understaffed. This place needs at least two or three waitresses to serve their patrons. I ordered a drink, but after waiting for another 15 minutes and not getting my drink, I decided to leave (I did leave a nice tip.) This place is really pretty and I wish I got to listen to the music, but I didn't feel like waiting too long to be served. read more

Great music. Love to see some competition for green lady lounge, which the BD certainly does. A more laid back vibe with great, engaging live music. A bit older crowd which we also loved. Only suggestion is to freshen up the drink menu. It's nearly identical to green lady. Keep it simple and offer the classic prohibition cocktails and have some higher end bourbon on hand. read more

We came here because the line to the Green Lady Lounge was out the door. I guess they're owned by the same people but you'd never know it. There's a completely different feel to this place with their disco ball hanging from the ceiling and the gigantic TVs that makes me think more of a dueling piano bar than a jazz and blues club. The drinks were just okay... and there was table service but there seemed to only be one or two servers for the whole place. It took us almost 20 minutes just to flag down our server to get our check when we were ready to leave. The jazz band that was playing was decent (aside from a very strange 10-minute drum solo??) but I don't fault or credit a venue because of their live music. Having said that, my husband and I had a babysitter and were out and about on a Saturday night and this was a nice place to end the evening. I'm not sure I'd come back... but maybe if the neighboring Jazz place was standing room only again and we couldn't think of anything else to do. read more

We frequent the green lady so stopping by the black dolphin was a must. I do prefer the layout of green lady, but the drinks were comparable and reasonably priced for a jazz bar. Our service was a bit slow but it was busy and we sat by the musicians. I would suggest sitting between the band and the bar for speedier service. There is a cover so bring your cash! read more

Black Dolphin is sister lounge to Green Lady Lounge ( same owner).Located just steps away. Similar vibe and lay out to Green Lady but no table servers. We were advised we could go between the two properties using same cover and tab. We did not test this to see how it actually worked. We stopped in at Band change, so we're able to quickly find a table. They offer some very interesting drinks. The cold brewed coffee and bourbon drink smelled amazing and apparently tasty, as our friend had 2. Beer and wine is also offered but I must admit I noticed most people drinking the fancy libations. The band was good and kept rolling on through their set even after the power went out! Kudos to them! A backup generator keep some lights on and with the table candles you barely noticed a change ( increased the ambiance) read more

While visiting Kansas City, I had to here some live music. Black Dolphin provided me a wonderful experience. They do not serve food, but do offer some quality potato chips for $1. The service is good but there is usually 1 server for the entire floor so please be patient. The band leader sings and plays the piano with the drummer hitting some background vocals. They are talented and did some great cover tunes and made them their own. Ambiance is on point here too. You will find another live music venue next door but the band did not sing there. read more

On a Saturday night in Kansas City there are so many choices for night clubs. One of my faves is The Green Lady Lounge for the wonderful drinks and live jazz. We arrived at around 10:00 & was informed by the door man that it would be standing room only. However; he said they have a sister location right next door called The Black Dolphin. He said they have live jazz and we could sit down. We said "What the heck?" & we tried it. We were very happy we did! This lounge is very similar to The Green Lady only smaller. The music was great ! The drinks were good too. My only complaint was the service. Everyone was very friendly & accommodating except there was only one waiter for the entire club & one bartender making the drinks for the entire club. I had to go to the bar, wait for the bartender to serve me & then I returned to my seat. This was not what I would expect for a legit lounge. I would go back but if I can sit at the Green Lady I would have to choose Green Lady. read more

OMG! I have found my Riveira31 jazz lounge in Kansas City! You see I am from Los Angeles and there is this great hotel (Hotel Sofitel) lounge called the Riveira 31 that has Monday night jazz nights, where I get dolled up, head to the lounge with my laptop and (boringly) work while sipping a cocktail, listening to some cool jazz and getting some work done. Ha! The speakeasy Black Dolphin is right next to the Green Lady (another fabulous jazz venue). Easy parking, low key entrance and nice welcoming venue. $5 entry and the band is right there when you enter. Tonight it was a three piece outfit led by a female piano player and singer whose husband plays the guitar bass. Layout is great, nice tables, booths chairs all around. I like having a booth so I am able to set up my computer, order a drink and have plenty of room to lay all my stuff around. This night was really cool since the bar tender, Madison, walked across the club to say hi to me since she recognized me! But this was from the Green Lady since this was my first visit to BD. Nice and warm welcome. This is a definite go to for me both Friday and Saturday nights! read more

Love, love, love this place. Right next door to the Green Lady Lounge, this quaint jazz bar features the exact same drink menu. A lot less loud, a little more sophisticated, a more rustic and grown up feel. Service is the same, drinks are just as tasty, and the music is just lovely. Had a good time here! Jazz and they had a special guest on Saturday night. I went here with a girl friend of mine close to midnight to enjoyed some music and do something different.... since we're single and ready to mingle. This place is right next to Green Lady Lounge and it was very jazzy! Lots of people and plenty of drinks. It's best to grab a seat cause it can get filled up pretty quick. Pretty laid back too. Would definitely come back here again. read more

Last Saturday, I walked in to the Black Dolphin after seeing that the Green Lady Lounge next door was full. There were quite a few tables available, so I found a cozy table in the back (perfect for conversation and a great view of the show). The venue itself was overall a wonderful experience- friendly and attentive service, nice drink selection, and best of all- no cover or ordering minimum. The show was top notch, with high quality musicians and probably one of the best drummers I've seen. I've been to a lot of jazz clubs (mostly in NYC), but Black Dolphin definitely tops my list. Highly recommend! read more

I was in visiting my daughter, had a nice dinner downtown Kansas City! Was looking for some sort of entertainment, went to Green Lady Lounge, listen to a Blues / Jazz band but with COVID they were at their capacity, so they suggested their sister bar next door, Black Dolphin, was a quaint little place and had TVs set up to listen to the band that was playing next door! Every poet that graced the mic was passionate, imaginative, had originality, emotional depth and imagery. The garage door was open so it allowed a nice flow of circulation. The dedicated space is setup as a sophisticated escape for those with an appreciation of fine cigars. Sections of with plush leather couches, chairs and tables for singles and groups creating a setup for intimate groupings and conversation. The ceiling, the portraits, cigar-related imagery all around accent the leather seating. There's access to lighters, cutters and plenty of ashtrays. They also sell cigars. There's different levels of membership, some of which you get your own locker. I joined a table with two nice women who shared with me their cigar favorites and cuts, along with sharing lounge secrets. It was very relaxing and the drink- mezcal martini I ordered was delicious. I brought my own cigars so I was able to enjoy my favorites!

The service staff seemed very rough in both their interactions and their appearance. I hadn't been here in years, but I remember it being a far more refined and polished experience than what he had last night. Lastly, I don't think our $50 deposit was applied to our check. I forgot about it until this morning and didn't bring the receipt home. We each only had one drink and my total charge was $52. Not the end of the world but just another point in how they don't appear to be as on top of their service as I've previously experienced.

Screenland's greatest, and my favorite, quality is that it naturally offers true sense of community - every time I'm there, strangers are interacting in small ways over their shared love of movies and unique experiences. What a cute little farm!! This place has a farmers market feel that you can't beat!! I went out to…read moreget pumpkins for Halloween and try to get them from local farms instead of chain stores. This farm was about 40 minutes south west of my home in KCMO and located right off the roadway. My wife and I were greeted by one of the neighbors who helps keep an eye on the farm and run the register for the stand. They have plenty of live berry bushes and small trees in the nursery part of the farm and so many pumpkins. You couldn't walk five feet without finding more pumpkins!! They have a cute little building which houses all the canned jams, jellies, honey, and syrups that they have available. My wife and I spotted some peach and blackberry jalapeño jam and I was hooked!! Who doesn't love a little kick to their morning toast? They even had a small corn maze in the back of the farm for kids. As well as a sizable bonfire pit set right next to a stream that looks like it's amazing on cool autumn nights. They have a rabbit, three donkeys, and a cat who wonders the property. Being an animal lover I couldn't resist saying hello to the donkeys. One was rather happy to see me pick up the brush and pet him for 10 minutes while the other two eyed me down. When we were there it was quite and peaceful as we were the only customers. Talking with the lady who helped us she said "wait until tomorrow and this place will be full". She went on to tell us that it's mainly busy with school trips during the week and that on Wednesday they had a kindergarten class come through to learn and make their own cider. Did I mention that yet? You can schedule a hayride and make your own fresh squeezed cider!! If that's not a reason to get some friends together this fall then I don't know what is!! If you're looking for a cute intimate farm to get your fresh pumpkins look no further!! This place is worth the drive.
