Unfortunately the owner was rude to us. He told us it was impossible to serve desert, we could only have dinner because "everyone in Antwerpen eats dinner between 18:00 and 20:00". When we told him we did not know that and were really in the mood for a piece of cake, he said "you should have done some research before leaving the house" We left the place but the owner relented and came after us. He gave us a table in the back and it turned out the restaurant was almost deserted. I had a macarone with chocolate mouse and raspberries, and my companion had the sachertorte. Both were good. Summing up: 3-4 stars for the food but only 1 star for customer service. On average a "meh" experience.

We walked in to a completely empty place, with just the owners sitting at a table eating food. No greeting whatsoever, we decided to seat ourselves. We sat down and waited for the menus while the owners continued eating their food and talking quietly to each other while staring at us. After about five minutes it was clear they were not going to to serve us, so we left and they didn't even acknowledge us leaving at all. They didn't even say hello, offer us menus, or tell us they will be with us soon. I'm guessing because we were a mixed ethnicity group. This is not the first time I've experienced this kind of anti-immigrant behavior from Antwerp businesses. It's not even cozy in there, but rather very dark, old, and stale. Do yourself a favor and go to Popoff around the corner instead.

This cafe sits in the busy shopping area of Antwerp, bout 10-15 minutes walking distance from central station. After that encounter it was all downhill. I ordered their "Wafel desire de lille" thinking maybe this was their speciality waffle dish, cost about 8 euros and some change. The desire de lille was a liege waffle topped with ice cream, whipped cream and a dusting of nuts on top. Unfortunately I found the texture to be pretty bad, it wasn't crispy on top like it should have been and ended up being super soggy after the ice cream melted a bit. Taste wise it was just okay, I expected the ice cream to have a bit more flavor but it ended up being very bland. Very disappointed in both the waffle and the service here. My waitress made me feel like a total burden for some reason, even though she didn't really do much other than take my order which was just me pointing to an item on the menu. Don't be deterred by the long line, it actually moves pretty quickly because most folks have a list in hand already of what they want. I ordered: - chocolate croissant (the one with chocolate on the inside, and chocolate and almonds on the outside): was fine, just your usually chocolate croissant from a bakery. Definitely better than what you'd get from a market, but I was anticipating more buttery and flakely goodness coming through. - ham and cheese croissant (this seemed the most popular since there was only one left in the display case): they heated it up for me. Decent amount of cheese flavor coming through - love cheese in general though so that probably helped. Again, pretty good, but I wasn't blown away. - Tiramisu cup: oh boy, I was most excited to try this and was let down a bit. Not enough of that coffee flavor coming through, just tasted a hint of it in the layers. Pretty cup, but lacked that flavor. The place is still good, just wasn't blown away unfortunately.
