My first thought when I entered the pink door to "Clothes in my Closet" was that I've missed a…read morevintage store like this in Oslo - one with a focus on beautiful clothes (and dresses in particular) of high quality. I've been spending months searching for a dress to wear at a wedding - and there it suddenly was, a dream of colors in a perfect fit. I was thrilled! The woman in the shop endorsed the dress and the brand, and told me the dress was 100% silk. So I thought it was worth it's price tag, which was quite high.
Happy and content I danced the streets home with my new treasure.
When I get home I take a closer look on the fabric tag - it says 100% polyester. Naturally, my reaction is to become quite disappointed and also quite angry. I do a quick Google, and find out that the brand is not a very expensive one at all. Actually, most new dresses seem to cost about the same as my second hand dress (which I find out was part of the 2012 collection). I also find several items of the exact same dress I've just bought (but in better condition - mine has a belt missing and a tear in the fabric) sold for less than 1/4 of the price I payed.
The following day I call the owner to deliver my complaint. She insists that the dress is a limited edition high fashion item, which is very strange since I've seen the opposite proven black on white. Though she pardon that her employee told me that the dress was in silk, and gives me back part of the money in excuse. This I highly appreciate. But according to me, even after the refund the dress was highly overpriced.
The concept of this store is lovely, and the collection of items is neat and beautiful. Just be aware that the prices may not always reflect the quality of the clothes, and that you sometimes might be paying plenty for the concept of the store rather than for the actual value of the clothing. If you can swallow that, you will for sure be able to find many treasures here. And in the end, the beauty of my new dress surely overrides the sting of the knowledge that I've probably paid far to much for it.
