I travel to Findlay often on business, and this is my favorite restaurant in town! The atmosphere is dark but welcoming. It has a cool, relaxed vibe. I am a beer drinker, and they have a nice selection of both seasonal and local/craft beers on tap. They have more in bottles if you do not fancy the ones on tap. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts are all amazingly delicious. I always make sure to add on (for $3) one of the "fancier" side salads. My favorite is the bistro salad: granny smith apples, mixed greens, walnuts, blue cheese and a honey poppy seed dressing. YUM! The kobe meatballs or the tuscan penne (add chicken) are my go-to entrees. Be warned: the portions are quite large! Good luck saving room for dessert! Looking at the menu, I get a little worried about what the total bill will cost. However with drinks, appetizers, side salads, and entrees, including tax and tip... it averages out to be around $40 a person. I don't think that is too bad for a meal that is both delicious and very filling. read more

Cozy place - dimly lit, relaxing music, neat old building. Nice wine list. The portions here are ridiculously large (each item ordered could have fed 2 people). For the same price and half the amount of food, the cost could be put into the quality of the food. If this were to happen, I think this could be a genuinely good restaurant. Unfortunately, as of now, it's just okay. What I ate: Arugula & Beet salad - 2 stars The arugula was not fresh (wilted). The ratio of beets to greens was too small to be included in the title of the dish. The flavor combination left a lot to be desired (the Bree style of cheese on this salad wasn't the best choice and the celery just didn't belong). Walnuts and salad dressing were solid. Lamb - 3 stars The flavor combination here was well done with caramelized onions and mashed potatoes; however, the meat was not tender and most certainly was not priced according to the quality of the meat ($39). It was cooked properly as medium rare. Creme Brulee - 2 stars The richness I am accustomed to was not here. It was more like just a custard. Service - 3 stars Not bad, but certainly not upscale. I was not informed of the specials, which is annoying. Also, the waitress disappeared for 20 long minutes at the end of the meal. read more

Further to my review, back yet another time. Great food. The extremely prompt service did make it feel a bit less than relaxed. An example, the bill should never come to the table before all diners have finished and plates have been cleared. Unless the bill is requested. Yet another time I wish that I could rock a half star rating. This is no way is meant as a slight to the place as I think the good is quite good, I'm just not entirely sure it is worth the price tag. The menu is full of offerings that are unique and flavorful, and the preparation/presentation has been great for both of my visits. I have been particularly impressed with the seafood, in particular the fact that I can find really well prepared grouper. The presence of carpaccio on the menu is also a very welcome site, and the dish is worth ordering for sure. The bottom line for me is that while the offerings are unique and the preparation is quite good, I'm not totally convinced the price tag is appropriate. Bistro is arguably the nicest restaurant in town, but I don't know if that in itself justifies the upcharge. read more

I've tried eating at Bistro on Main twice. Both times I was completely ignored by the staff until I silently excused myself. The most recent trip was with a friend and well-known food critic I tend to go food-tripping with, who looked very forward to trying this place. After standing around for ten minutes while the staff and management moved around and between us, carrying on business as if we weren't there, and blatantly cold-shouldering us, we simply left. The restaurant was empty and over-staffed, giving no reason at all for this behavior, and the prices for 'fancied-up pub grub' were, for lack of any better word, pretentious. I won't even consider returning to this hole, and would be happy to provide anyone else passing through the area another half-dozen superior restaurants where you'll always be greeted as family and leaving with a smile. read more

A downtown speciality and superb place. My wife and I eat here for lunch 2-3 times a week pre-COVID. The tomato basil soup is a must have. Fantastic salads and sandwiches. She loves the Lavelle's Turkey & I go with the Italian chicken. We love the tomato risotto. My wife orders the chicken marsala often. The baked penne is also super. The lady that owns it works exceptionally hard and tries to ensure that everything is perfect. The service is good as well. The Bistro catered our wedding. Prior to using The Bistro, we looked at a few different options for catering our wedding. The Bistro's prices were very reasonable and their food was fantastic. We received many compliments from the guests that the food was the best they've had at a wedding. We had chicken stuffed with cheese and spinach and sliced roast beef. The appetizer was a meat and cheese tray which was delicious as well. In addition, The Bistro provided linens, silverware, dishes, etc. at very fair prices. Lastly, they provided bar tenders and alcohol at their cost. The Bistro took a lot of stress off of us that would have otherwise been caused by the food and alcohol. We highly recommend using The Bistro for any catered event and plan to use them again in the future. read more

Bistro does a good job at preparing pastas, soups, and has a wide variety of appetizers. They also have a number of great deserts. Their beer menu is a little lacking, so you probably won't find much in the manner of stouts, sours, or much beyond a Yingling. I would also suggest choosing another restaurant if you are looking for a properly cooked steak or fish. They always over season and over cook their proteins. Not nearly as good as it was a few years ago. Maybe management changed? It used to be a strictly Italian restaurant with a decent Italian menu. Now Italian food takes up only a portion of the menu. I saw no Italian dish without mushrooms or olives, which - if you like that, you'd love. I ended up getting penne with chicken and sausage (asking for no onions, peppers or mushrooms) but it was really heavy on the sauce and light on noodles, which were overcooked. The music - ugh, the music. What happened to Italian music in Italian restaurants? This was like bad elevator music. And it was loud. The salad even was strange - instead of croutons it had crushed croutons, which gave the salad a very strange texture. In all, it seemed they were trying too hard to be trendy. I'd rather they kept it simple and did one thing well - Italian food. But the food was so-so. My wife liked hers, though. They get points for atmosphere. read more

Keep in mind that there were only 5 other table and four people at the bar. The staff was ok once we ordered we didn't see much of them on a slow Monday night The menu was intriguing but the Duck meatloaf was burnt and the chicken ravioli meal had no chicken in it. Everything was above expected from the decor to the meal to the service and the check! I had one the best turkey sandwiches I've ever had.
