We discovered Bistró MX thanks to a recommendation from our Airbnb host, and it quickly became our favorite place to eat during our time in the Cancún area.
Located in Puerto Juárez, just a few quick blocks from the ferry to Isla Mujeres, this is the kind of place you're grateful to stumble upon. Bistró MX is the creation of chef Octavio Santiago, also behind the much-loved (and recently Michelin-mentioned) Kiosco Verde. Together with co-owner, chef Frank, whose warmth and genuine hospitality set the tone the moment you arrive, they've created something truly special.
From the first hello, the space feels welcoming and lived-in -- calm, comfortable, and quietly inviting. Frank has a way of making you feel at ease, as if you're being welcomed into someone's home rather than a restaurant. The open kitchen, soft light, and natural textures only deepen that feeling.
We were greeted with house-made beans and warm tortillas, a simple but generous beginning. Other dishes we tried or hope to try are the tetela oaxaqueña, picadas jarochas al comal, tacos de cerdo en pasilla con papa, taco de relleno negro, and the longaniza ahumada de Valladolid -- each dish thoughtful, beautifully balanced, and clearly made with care. The huevos motuleños - a local dish, as many are, were especially memorable, and the café de olla, served in a clay mug, was deeply comforting.
What makes Bistró MX special isn't just the food -- it's the feeling. It's warm, unpretentious, and quietly joyful. A place where you want to linger, return, and bring people you love.
If you're anywhere near Cancún, this is absolutely worth the short trip. It's not just a meal -- it's an experience you'll remember. read more
