I've been going to Bistro 44 for about two years now and quite enjoy it. The food is always well made, and every now and again they have a special that is so good you want to order two (although you'd never be able to finish the second because the portions are a good size). The staff are very friendly and are a big part of why I keep coming back. I normally sit in the bar area to watch a game, and if you go on a Sunday they even have half priced burgers, which you can't beat (try getting one with a fried egg and some bacon on it... it's to die for!). The price is about what you would expect (comparable to most other restaurants), and as long as the place isn't swamped you can expect very speedy service. The only time my service is ever slow is when several tables arrive at the same time, but within a few minutes thing calm down and they always find a way to take care of you. If you're looking for a nice and casual place to bring some out of town guests, or just want to watch a game and enjoy some good food, you can't go wrong with Bistro 44! read more

We've driven past bistro44 plenty of times, and in the search for an east side restaurant we decided (based on reviews) to stop in on a Sunday evening. We most definitely should have read those reviews a little more thoroughly. The ambiance was something out of a graduated furr's cafeteria, with 60+ women complaining loudly in the quiet and awkward dining area about the lack of sorbet. The building has so much potential, why on earth would anyone paint muted khaki tones over such beautiful brick paired with the retro popcorn ceilings? Although we had high hopes, the "calamari" resembles mozzarella sticks found in a frozen food section at fry's. Any creature dawning more than four legs should be celebrated, especially when in the menu is described as "panko fried". Or salads on the other hand, were overpriced, yet fulfilling and delicious! Service was prompt and personable, but we were quite bummed as we were leaving to see a sign informing us that it was indeed steak night (whatever that means). Overall, the experience was luke warm. We may return again if we're hungry enough and craving a not-so-busy environment. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I pass by all the time and I was rooting for it. So we decided to go for lunch. We were greeted and seated promptly which was nice. The options on the menu were good. So I ordered the Southwest chicken salad. The food came out quickly, while my friend ordered the hot ham and cheese sandwich with fries. Her fries were good, hot and crispy! The chicken on my salad was also pretty good, but I think the fact that the salad was already dressed made for wilted salad. So it was hard to tell if it was fresh or not. I was also asked if I wanted bread and I was pretty hungry so I said yes! Big mistake. They brought out 2 pieces of focaccia and 2 slices of sour dough. The butter was nice and soft, but the bread tasted funny and got really hard really fast as if it had been warmed in a microwave. There was nothing really terrible about this visit, but nothing to take me back either. read more

Wanted a burger for lunch and saw on their website they fit the bill. Got there and no burger on the b&m menu. In fact the whole sandwich section disappeared. Just pasta. So I ate the peanut Thai pasta that was good but no burger. Service was great and this has to be the cleanest restaurant I've been in in years. They just need to lunchify their lunch menu. read more

Second time here! Both times the service was good but the food quality, not. I ordered the "spaghetti incident" with meatballs, the meatballs were really pink. So the server ordered me a second batch, of course I had to wait again. As I was waiting for about 10 mins, the rest of my dish was getting cold. My first time getting undercooked meat, I would expect the server to offer something of some sort, but no. I don't think they handled it quite well. read more

A bit indifferent on this restaurant. My wife wanted to try it and it was nothing spectacular. Came in at 6pm on a Tuesday and it was pretty empty. Those who were there were mostly seniors (not they there's anything wrong with that). This place is definitely not catering to the younger generations. It was a bit confusing because the name "Bistro 44," sounds a bit hipper than this place actually is. The food was good, but overpriced; I had the steak diane and it tasted like pot roast, but good pot roast. My wife enjoyed the bourbon pecan salmon. Long story short -- good food, a bit overpriced, and the ambiance seems geared to the older generations. We probably will not be back. read more

Took my wife to Bistro 44 for Mother's Day and it was excellent! This was our first visit and we will definitely repeat. She had the "Spaghetti Incident" with shrimp and I had the Mother's Day "Rib Eye Special". We shared the seared Ahi tuna appetizer and the Brownie a' la mode desert. The food was superb and the service was great! As a bonus, each mother was given a $10 gift certificate to be used on a future visit. A wonderful experience all around! read more

Tried this restaurant because they have "1/2 price burgers" on Sundays. First, their online menu does NOT reflect current prices or even what they offer (what happened to the All American Chicken sandwich?). A kid's meal is almost $6, not $4.59. That's an awful lot for a grilled cheese sandwich! The only burger that's half price is their angus burger. You have to pay for toppings like cheese or bacon, and though they are half price as well, it all adds up. We were disappointed that the burger meat itself had no flavor. The only thing we liked were the fries and friendly service. For 2 adults (ordering half price burgers and sodas) and 2 kids meals, our check was over $35 w/o tip. Sadly, we will not be back. read more

This last visit to Bistro 44 was very disappointing, the service was slow and at times non-existent. The food was slow in coming out, and waited 5 minutes for the salad dressing for the salad. Usually you are serve bread right away, but had to ask for the bread. Took my salad to go and then didn't gt it back. Had to ask another waiter for the salad. We complained to the manager but that was no avail. He just said they were busy, but that wasn't the case when we got there. We don't plan on going back again, and we had been very loyal customers. read more

My husband and I decided to try Bistro 44 for the first time on our 35th wedding anniversary, because the restaurant was near our house and had very good reviews. We were greeted promptly by the hostess and our waitress. A plate of focaccia and baguette-type sliced bread was brought to the table, along with our drinks. The focaccia was soft and flavorful, but the baguette was tough and essentially inedible. While we waited an inexplicably long time for our order to be taken, we enjoyed the modern decor and soft-lit ambience. We found that it wasn't a great choice for a quiet, intimate dinner due to the high noise level; it actually was difficult to hear one another. It is a bistro, after all, despite the upscale prices! My husband ordered the Southwestern Salad with grilled chicken. He said the salad, with mixed field greens, fresh avocado slices, tortilla chips and chipotle ranch dressing was very good and had a moderately spicy kick. I got the Steak Diane, with beef tenderloin medallions and sliced portobello mushrooms in a red wine brandy sauce, with buttermilk mashed potatoes and "fresh seasonal vegetables." The beef was very tender and had good flavor, despite being well done (I was asked to specify a temperature when I placed the order, and requested it to be medium). However, the sauce was exceedingly salty (I like lots of salt, and it was way too salty for me!), the mashed potatoes gummy and over-processed, and the fresh vegetable medley of zucchini, carrots and peppers overcooked and mushy. My food did arrive piping hot (and did not appear to have been microwaved), which I appreciated since many restaurants here seem to serve lukewarm to cold food these days. While my husband said he would order the Southwestern Salad (4 stars) again, I definitely would skip the Steak Diane (1 star)! In addition, if one orders an entre ofwith mashed potatoes or fresh vegetables, I recommend either tasting the mash ahead of time or substituting another style of potatoes, and specifying how the vegetables are to be cooked (i.e., tender crisp, al dente, or mush). I also had a glass of the house blend red wine, which was delicious. We plan to go back and check out Bistro 44 again, though next time I think I'll stick with a salad. read more

Today I invited my family to Bistro 44 based on the good experience of a friend. Man was I disappointed. For one the website is menu is out of date. What you see on line is not what they serve. Next is the quality of the food. The Bistro 44 burger was over-cooked and bland. The BLT was too dry. And the meal took too long to reach our table. Most important was the service.... or lack there of. I mentioned the condition of the food to our server. Instead of addressing it he stood there like a deer in the headlights. We were regular customers for many years and recently we planned to go to dinner there at 840 on a Saturday night and we were told that because they were slow they had closed the kitchen already even though their website stated they were open until 10. I emailed the restaurant to complain and got no response. I then called and asked to speak with the manager. She advised me that since they are a privately owned business they could close whenever they choose to. I asked to have the owner call me and he never did. Loved this place! Had the Spaghetti Incident with Chicken and we had a Southwestern Chicken Wrap. They were both great, but I was so impressed with the Spaghetti Incident! The waitress was great, she recommended both of these dishes and we were very pleased! Washed it down with a Caramel Crème Brulee that was equally good! We visited Bistro 44 for the first time last night, and I was impressed enough to say that I will give it a second try. However, I wasn't impressed enough to give it more than 3 stars. We ate in the bar area, and I liked the atmosphere. Dark, but not so dark you couldn't tell what you were eating. Four or five tv's, but none of them had the sound turned up. We only had appetizers, and they ranged in quality from excellent to just ok. First up, the steak skewers on homemade coleslaw was excellent. Great tasting slaw and tender meat made it a real treat. The pineapple shrimp were huge, and tasted ok, but the side sauces needed more flavor. The one that was supposed to be tangy wasn't. Finally, their much talked about sliders were just ok. Not a lot of flavor, and I was underwhelmed. They had many beers in bottles, but only three on tap. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere enough that I will go back and give an actual dinner or lunch a try. read more
