I love Tanzanian Peaberry coffee and have been drinking it for over a decade. I tried this brand and found it bitter and a little oily. The owner was there the day I went and she was incredibly rude. Follow-up to my previous glowing review. I ordered some coffee via the Bishops website and promptly received an order confirmation email. And that's all I have received. I tried to call, she/they apparently don't take calls and don't accept voicemails either meaning you can't even leave a VM. I sent a text; no response received. I waited a few more days and replied to the confirmation email; guess what? No response after several days. I fully recognize this is a small business, potentially just one person, but some minimal level of CS needs to be maintained. My suspicion is that because I selected the least expensive shipping method which was less than $2, that my order will not be filled. However, either honor that as it was an option presented on your site, or remove that option if it is not viable. Beyond poor service that can't be justified. read more

Lookin for Starbucks. Found Bishops. They have a nice selection of exotic teas and coffes. I had the Earl Grey Lavendar blend. Tastes like a hippie incense shop. I like it! They offered to sweeten it or something. A southern thing I guess. Speaking of, there was a nice staff that is helpful and knowledgeable. A little over the top on selling the extras. Wanna danish? How bout a truffle? They even timed out the steeping of my tea and came outside to tell me when it was done. Now that's service! The boyfriend had espresso and coffee. He said both were good and we agreed on 4 stars. The bathroom was clean. The seats were plush, but not exactly plentiful. In fact, there were only 6 pastries in the case, so you might wanna call first to make sure they are stocked if you are trying to feed a large crew. I'd actually give this place 3.5 stars, but I don't mind rounding up to 4 in this case (.5 stars for effort, I guess, haha). I stop in here every time I'm around to do laundry next door. The decor is simple and chic, the ambiance serene, as everyone has said, it's all delicious and unique and made by Bishop herself with love. All the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and unless you're giving clear "don't talk to me, I'm only here to hang out with my Mac" vibes, you'll leave with a new friend and learning more about coffee than you thought you'd ever want to know (hint: do NOT order anything with a Starbucks vocabulary, such as sizes or specialized drink names like "macchiao", unless you want a lecture) I'm not big on coffee/espresso stuff--for me it's just a nice flavor to combine with sugary chocolate or caramel and lots of milk, :)-- but the fact that she roasts her own batches definitely demands some respect, and in my opinion, proud support. It takes passion, know-how, and guts to go against the big-name "bean-burning" chains! I didn't really care for the frappe I got once, as it was kind of runny and not the frappacino texture I was looking for. However, I do enjoy the chai (although it was a little weak and not quite as spiced as I like) and other teas and as a frequent tea consumer, I feel much more confident in saying that I really think her blends are some of the best. It's cool that you can even purchase the coffee beans or teas for your at-home enjoyment, too, if you're not in the area every day. And the cake!!! Mmmmm.... I've only had the Jamaican cupcake, but it was soooo good and has only convinced me that I must come back and eventually try each offering. This particular choice is a perfectly moist and not too sickly sweet with key lime pie filling in the center topped with melt-in-your-mouth icing (again, not too sweet) and lime zest. I died and went to some kind of tropical flavored cupcake paradise...You definitely need to try it, and meanwhile I'll hopefully get a chance to sample the other sweets and let you know about them too! Bottom line: I think it's a little too expensive, especially since I could care less about coffee. Overall, I enjoy Starbucks more (yes, I'm one of those brainwashed people). But, I think Bishop and all of her hard work are awesome, coffee snobs would probably adore her caffeinated offerings, and it's a really convenient location, so I'm happy to keep up my laundry day tradition of stopping by. read more

The Brazilian pour over is amazing! Such delicious coffee flavor without the bitterness. Doesn't need cream or flavor syrups or anything! This is so not on my way to work but I'll need to find a reason to stop by more often. (It is on my way to the dentist so there.) The coffee here is great. I've been drinking it black lately so flavor and quality become a really big deal when there is no syrup or foo foo stuff to hide behind. I enjoyed the a large cup of the Peru roast - great bold flavor without any of the acidity, bitterness or burnt elements the can be found at those other places. I also sampled the 911 truffle - dark chocolate with chili and cinnamon. Delicious! Chocolate should always come with an afterburn, don't you think? read more

This place is better than a local Starbucks ! The selection is better ,the beans are fresh and locally roasted . There is plenty of room to set up my laptop and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable .They offer soy and almond milk (since I am lactose intolerant ) , The coffee is gluten free . I am also gluten intolerant .And I get coffee at other shops that have been cross contaminated with wheat ! but I don't have to worry about getting sick here . The worst service of any coffee shop I've visited in anywhere in the world. I gave one star only because I do believe that the bitter brew she (the self-bragging owner) gave me came from a real coffee bean; just not a tasty one. The decor is like something out of "Adams Family" or possibly a real horror set. Expect to suck up a mouthful of coffee grounds if you have the stomach to finish this evil brew. Very pleasant one minute and rude the next minute. If the owner DID NOT have this friend ,her business would out of business . (See my review for the Pensacola location) We are coffee and tea people. Maybe even snob level. We were so excited to learn that our new duty station has a local coffee roaster. We had high hopes for this place. But it was such a disappointment. The FWB store is nice and big. Not much seating, though. The flooring is great. You can buy beans there, and there is a good selection. I don't know how they taste since we haven't purchased any. While I did not like their drinks, I'd be willing to give their beans a try at home. Our first experience was at the FWB store. They close at 4pm? Seems odd for a coffee shop to close that early during the week. We got there just before closing and luckily made the cut. The female that worked that day turned away 7 people that showed up at 4pm on the dot because she wanted to go home. The first thing we heard when we walked in was the comment she made to a customer: "I would love it if I could EVER get out of here!" Then she complained to us about wanting to go home. Hmm, okay. But since they charge $5 on average for a drink, that could have brought in a minimum of $35 in those 10 minutes she could have spent with those 7 customers. And maybe they could have been repeat customers and spent even more money there... anyway... The chai latte was watery and barely warm. I thought maybe it was watery because I got coconut milk instead of regular milk. Then I tried my husband's. My husband got a dirty chai latte (chai with espresso) with whole milk and it was still watery. It was not smooth at all. It was like chai flavored water and we couldn't even taste the espresso in his. Did she put it in there? I don't even know! It tasted more like a pumpkin latte than chai. Bad flavor and consistency for chai lattes. It could also be that the employee just didn't care about quality because she was ready to go home. I don't know for sure. FYI: If you want to change your milk from whole milk to anything else, there is a fee. It's not a reasonable fee, either. If memory serves me right, it was $1.00 to get a different milk. This includes skim milk or soy milk (not that I drink it, but Starbucks doesn't even charge to substitute). I only drink almond or coconut milk, so I paid the difference. Not worth it. My husband's input: "Hire real baristas that actually know what they're doing, care about the products, and have a passion for it. Lower your prices. You are delusional to think your product is worth as much as you charge. We didn't even pay that much in big cities like New York and Washington, DC, and the quality was much better there." **For Susan: I did try the coffee. Given the disdain and laziness of the employee, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been sitting around all day. Regardless, it was disgusting. That's why we tried something else. We're big supporters of small business and didn't want to just walk out without giving them a chance. Read my other review at their downtown location and you'd know that I tried coffee there, too. The baristas are arrogant (and yet not well educated about coffee). I can tell by your review that you either are A: friends with the owner, or B: invested in some way. No one will care about the roasting process or bean types if they can't put out a good cup of coffee or espresso! That's basic business! They should focus on being good at ONE thing and build up from there. A good starting point would be being OPEN the hours they say they're open and having basic supplies (cups, lids, sleeves, etc.). read more

I am a fan of matcha latte though, so I can drink matcha tea from any coffee shop that sells them (like Starbucks) and think it's good, so I guess I can't give this place a 4-star because I have only had one drink. Coming from a family of coffee shop owners, Bishop knows what she's doing. Extremely knowledgeable about coffee roasting and correct calibration. If you want to know what good, real coffee tastes like, go here. If you want nasty, generic coffee made by a college grad lookin for a job then go to Starbucks. Bishops if the REAL DEAL. She uses beans from all over the world and is tremendously cultured herself. Her attitude alone is worth the visit but once you try the coffee, it's worth coming back every time you get it. While I was in there, a regular customer came in and she knew her by name and already knew her order. Things like that are what I look for in a good coffee shop because it shows that it's a very personable and welcoming community filled with people that care about coffee and about people. During the summer, she brings out the big food truck and sells coffee on the beach. Can't you imagine getting an ice cold frappe on a hot, summer day? Wonderful job, Bishop, keep up the good work! Bishop has a great store here. Location is now on Hwy 98 near Happy Donut. Nice selection of coffee and tea a well as delicious pastries, cakes, pies, and chocolates. This is a mom & pop type store, small, clean, and even play live music on the weekends. I buy my fresh roast here the day after it's roasted (Tuesday). I buy 1/2lb for the week so it stays fresh. They pack in foil lined ziplock bags with one way valves (so the CO2 from the fresh roast can escape) and heat seal the bags. All the coffees I have bought have been very good. My favorite is the Bishops Blend but only after going with their recommended grind/water ratio which is double what I usually make. This for me doubles my usual price for a cup of coffee, but it's "Oh So Good"! Speaking of, I just ran out this morning so I'm making a trip! read more

Awesome little shop tucked away in a strip mall. It's right by Happy Donut, be watchful or you'll miss it! The only downside is how worn down the actual strip mall is, and that they don't have a drive thru, but the atmosphere is worth the walk. The inside has comfortable seating and a very warm coffee shop ambiance. They have their coffees and teas on display right as you walk in the door. I also looked at their new back patio, it looked very nice, and I probably would have sat down there if it wasn't so cloudy out. I ordered a hazelnut latte made with almond milk, it was fantastic. I was probably most impressed with the quality of espresso. Much more fresh and crisp than Starbucks. It was made in good time and brought straight to me by the barista. The barista was a very friendly young guy, very knowledgable about coffee and teas. He told me that the owner roasts all of the coffee that they had for sale, and what to try next time. They roast electronically, which is better for the environment and doesn't give the coffee the bitter taste. They have chocolates, homemade muffins, cakes, pies, and a very cool looking hibiscus lemonade. I will have to go back to try all of those. They have free wifi, which was somewhat slow, but I could easily bring in my laptop and get some work done. They also have accosting music in the background which is relaxing. I really wanted to like this place. I want to support local business.... I've gone here twice with a friend. The first time, the owner waited on us and was very sweet and accommodating. She fixed us lattes, which I didn't really care for the taste -- too acidic and harsh. My friend liked hers though, so maybe I'm just picky. The second time we went, I remembered not liking the lattes and ordered the coffee of the day, which was good. However, she must have been having a bad day because she was very rude and unpleasant to us. As I walked in the door she accused me of having a coffee cup from a rival store (In reality my mom had made me some hot tea in a re-used to-go cup) She scolded me for how I opened the trash can lid and when my friend took a coffee stirrer out she ran over and said, "Oh thanks, now I have to throw the whole thing out. Health codes." She dumped the container of coffee stirrers into the trash and then refilled the container using her bare hands. So much for health codes. We both agreed we aren't going back anytime soon. read more

A cute little respite on a strip mall highway. The coffee was very good, but like someone else mentioned, if you don't order what the owner wants you to, she will tell you! I actually almost walked out when she chastised me for getting an iced coffee when she can make a hundred kinds of espresso. Geez, just take my money and if you don't want people to drink iced coffee don't put it on your menu. I didn't even use Starbucks lingo. But I'm glad I stayed and she was trying to be friendly after that bit of awkwardness. The Key lime cupcake was really good, filled with lime curd. The red velvet was just okay. The banana nut muffin was light and sweet. The chocolate croissant was more like a little ball of croissant pastry with chocolate, yummy but a bit dry. She did offer to warm it for me but I don't like croissant in the microwave. She also has some chocolates in a case too, from Vermont, I think she said. I am going to have to find the source of the candied orange slice dipped in dark chocolate!!! (note, we did not eat all of this in one sitting- we got the cupcakes and chocolate to go on a second visit.) I would like to go back to try the teas. There is a nice little patio in the back too and you can see the roaster and bags of raw coffee as you walk back, kinda cool. read more

Never open, when it is, the interior looks like its run down and still in construction. Tried to get one of the hot drinks because it was absolutely freezing inside, didn't seem like the heat was ever turned on. Wanted to sit down and enjoy the music but there was only 3 seats available inside, and no Wi-Fi was even offered. I don't feel like this place should even be a coffee shop, Id get better service driving to the one in Fort Walton beach and actually feeling welcome. read more

The good: excellent selection of teas and coffee if you want to buy for brewing at home. They roast their own beans and come up with some awesome coffees. My favorite is their limited run honduran blend. I like mine black so I can't comment on their mochas etc. if you are looking just for a caffeine boost the blonde beauty will keep you awake for days. During the summer they have an excellent hibiscus tea that almost always sell as fast as they can make it. Free wifi and dog friendly! Also excellent gourmet chocolate and muffins. The bad: hours. Closing at four in the afternoon is horrible. I don't even get off work that early. If they were open late I would go study there. The patio has horrible access. Prices are a bit expensive and service can be slow if there is only one barista. But they are super friendly and seem quite knowledgeable about their product. Overall, promising place, but there are a few upgrades that need to be made to reach 5 stars. But if you just want a great cup of joe without the frills, this is the place! read more

This is the most amazing coffee I have had. The roasting process used by Bishop creates the most balanced blends of tastes one could ever expect. No matter what variety one chooses, the flavors created by perfect roasting are evident and delicious. My favorites are Brazilian blend, a rich robust dark roast without a hint of bitterness, and always perfect Queens Blend. Although both blends are varieties of darker roast coffee, each has full flavor and exquisite taste. Hats off to the chef! Never bitter, always smooth. I go to Bishops at least once a week for a large cappucino. It tastes so much better than Starbucks could even hope to be. I moved here from Ohio where we had 10 coffee houses within a 5 mile stretch of road and had to settle for Starbucks till Bishops came along. Besides being a great tasting coffee the atmosphere is pleasant, and it is locally owned. I believe in supporting small local businesses whenever possible. read more

My husband is the coffee drinker between the two of us and he keeps trying to give his business to Bishop's, but is struggling to justify the visits there. We both drive right by Bishop's on our way to work every morning so it makes it a logical stop. I have stopped there on several occasions between 6-6:45 am to order a drink, but they have been closed. However, the posted hours show that they open at 6 am. At this point I have given up and drive past them and on to Starbucks in Mary Esther. My husband has a few simple observations for them. First, he does enjoy the coffee and that is why he keeps trying them. However, he is annoyed with the cup lids. They use lids with the coffee sipper and a hole for the straw. When he takes a sip of coffee while driving, coffee comes out of the straw hole. Small issue, but can be annoying. The last time he was there he ordered a hot cup of coffee. They were out of coffee sleeves so the girl working said she could not sell any hot drinks. If you are a coffee business you should not run out of the basic supplies that you need to sell your product. I should mention that this visit was at 7:30 am. He then asked for an iced coffee. Just to make small talk my husband asked if the coffee was cold brewed. The girl working said she didn't know, but she did "know that it was special". If they are going to charge a premium for coffee, they should be slightly knowledgeable about it. My husband asked her to leave a little room for milk and she handed him the grocery store milk jug to pour it in. He then tried to pay for his drink with a $10 bill and she could not make change, so he had to put it on his credit card. Again, all of this happened fairly early in the morning and they did not seem to be prepared to conduct business that day. We like to support local businesses and want to see Bishop's do well, but we keep having random issues like this every time we go there. It would be nice to get consistent service from them. read more
