I've been wanting to try out this place for a minute now. When I saw they a video about their birria dumplings with consume to dip in, I knew I had to now make an immediate trip downtown. The place inside was bigger than I thought and it had seating for you to stay and dine in, but on this particular day it was freezing in the city and I wanted to take them and go. I also got myself some shrimp dumplings as well. Everything was affordable I didn't spend over $25 dollars and was happy for it because the shrimp dumplings were smaller than I'm used to. Customer service was good, I was greeted by such a friendly lady. She had such a pleasant smile and was happy to just have a few customers on such a cold day. Overall my experience was good. My birria dumpling was very flavorful especially with the added green sauce that was given to me. I also loved the consume because it was seasoned very well and didn't have any fatty meat like I've had from other places. The shrimp dumpling I've could have done without, it lacked in flavor and the meat was falling out of the dumpling my reason for the four and not five stars. Located in the village. Saw a post about the grilled cheese Birria sandwich online and had to try it. It's an intimate space with one long table in the middle with other tables along the wall with bar stools. When I arrived there were several delicious options to choose from. I was told the most popular item is the Texas toast Birria. Of course, that was my confirmation to order it. The Birria options are chicken, beef or shrimp. The sandwich was AMAZING! The beef birria was perfectly seasoned along with the cheese and the Texas toast was packed with garlic and butter. Honestly, it was a 10/10. I added the cilantro and onions for authenticity. The food took about 10mins to make and it was pipping hot. The sandwich had a slight kick of spice but not too much. Overall, I loved my visit. The food was perfection and flavorful. I'd been wanting to try Birria LES for probably the last 6 months. The Beef Birria Texas Garlic Toast Grilled Cheese definitely made the visit worth it. The garlic paired with the beef was genius. I need to try the sliders next time. I was excited for the Beef Birria Dumplings because social media posts about them was how I originally learned about Birria LES. However, after eating the birria grilled cheese, the dumplings just didn't compare. The dumplings were flat and soggy. While they were good, they didn't stand out to me. There was plenty of seating open on a rainy Saturday, but since we had a bigger order, there was a bit of a wait for our food. As a Californian transplant in NYC, I was so glad to find birria tacos that hit the spot! This place was still popping late at night but we managed to get our takeout pretty quickly. I still prefer the beef to the chicken but both were tender and well seasoned. Loved how the beef was lean for the most part with lots of cheese. The consomme was hearty and flavorful, although I wish it had more onions. Unfortunately they packed us 4 tacos when we ordered 6, and didn't realize until we got home, but we were able to get a refund promptly after calling them. The store itself has some table seating as well as some high top counters. Something about the loud Spanish music with the taco aroma really amplifies your hungry while waiting for your food! I was so surprised to see a birria joint out here on St Marks, but I am very glad I walked by. This appears to be their second location (their original down in the actual LES) with more spacious seating available. I came in on a Saturday afternoon with some friends and found plenty of seating in the space. I ordered the tostado ($4) and a small esquite ($4), which came fairly quickly. The tostado was super crunchy, and the birria atop was great. I wish they were a little spicier and I noticed they were definitely drier than that at Birria-Landia (which remains my favorite place for birria). Bonus points for serving halal meat too! Came to this place on a whim. I got an Al Pastor taco & my husband got a beef empanada. Took a few bites and were blow away by the taste and how juicy they were. This worker is extremely rude. As soon as my friends and I arrived she looked extremely bothered and took my order incorrectly. I told her that the order was wrong and she said there was nothing she could do about it. She could have easily given me my correct order and given me a price deduction for the order. I have been talking so much sh*t about NYC Mexican food, or lack thereof. It was the one cuisine I was struggling to find authentically done, and to be quite frank I had almost given up hope. However, you can't deny the shine of a Jedi, and Birria LES is the light in the abyss. Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness. This spot transported me straight back to my time in San Diego, where you are surrounded by authentic Mexican food hand crafted by the abuelitas. Dang now I miss my Granny. I went with 3 tacos and 1 tostada. The real MVP was the surf and turf taco, my goodness. It blew me away like a category 5 hurricane. Eh more like category 4 let's not get too dramatic. The surprise player of the year had to be a chicken taco, because I mean who expects a lot from a chicken taco. Birria LES is the latest and greatest Birria taco spot to hit the town. I was particularly hyped to try the tacos here because I know that they use Halal meat. We randomly walked by the storefront one night and decided to give it a go, it's a very simple store front with to go service and casual seating if you choose to sit there and have your meal. Service was attentive, the cashier was friendly. She even agreed to charge my phone, while we were waiting for our food to be prepared. We waited a little bit for our food, and I appreciated the care with which are tacos were prepared. The filling was spot on, the cheese was gooey, and the tacos were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The meat was absolutely scrumptious and seasoned to perfection. Cilantro and onion topping was generous, but not overpowering. The salsa that accompanied the tacos was spicy but not overwhelmingly so and a great smoky flavored addition to the flavor profile. The soup that we ordered alongside was hearty, not too salty, and had a thin film of fat on it, which is the perfect balance. To be honest, these are one of the best Birria tacos I have ever had and if you are on the fence, I would strongly recommend coming in here and giving these tacos a try. read more

The ambiance was fun and casual with cute space-taco themed murals on the walls. There were many diners on a Friday evening, but the line and orders were moving fast. The staff was friendly and the food was prepared very quickly: I was in and out with dinner in minutes. I got two classic beef birria tacos and a small consommé that came to just under $15. The tacos were served alongside a hot red sauce, limes and cilantro and onions, and overall they were rather tasty, albeit slightly dry. The tacos had a nice tang and freshness from the hot sauce and lime juice. The consommé however, was sorely disappointing with little beef and an overwhelmingly bitter flavor. I suspect it probably was not fresh and stewed much too long, resulting in the bitterness. I absolutely abhor food waste, but I couldn't bare to finish eating it and unfortunately had to throw more than half of the consommé away. I heard so many great things about Birria LES and I was really excited to try it given it is so hard to find halal tacos, let alone birria! However, this experience left me somewhat disappointed. I hope this was just a one-off bad experience since the prices are pretty on-par with other locations around the city and the tacos were still good.
