It's a little out of the city center, so the parking's a bit better, but only a bit. We both ordered the BrewDog Punk IPA, a standard West Coast IPA, which was decent. I even ordered another. I got the Salmon LT sandwich, a club with salmon as opposed to bacon. Toasted, which is common in this region of Italy. Tasty, although I might have enjoyed it with a little less cream cheese. My buddy ordered the hamburger with guacamole. The burger bordered on raw, but je enjoyed it. Staff was friendly and helpful, letting us sample some of the beers before we ordered. It's a good-sized place with tons of tables, inside and out. We arrived about 6:30, and the place was mostly empty. But it filled quickly after 7 with many folks stopping for a beer and snack after work.

We had been looking for a bottle shop, but alas, all of them are closed on Sundays. We really wanted to get some rare Belgian beers, and out of nowhere, appeared Punto. Their bottle list read like a beer lover's fantasy novel: Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, Westvleteren. The best part, the prices! We got a demi-bottle of Cantillon beer for 13 euros. I realize this is normal for Europe, but in the States this would cost at least 50% more - if you could find it. There is a large patio out front (for the smokers), and plenty of seating indoors as well. The inside is kind of Euro-hipster, with a variety of interesting beer posters on the walls. Punto feels like a locals-only neighborhood bar, but I did run into another couple from California while waiting in line for the restroom (typical Americans). If you are looking to get away from the tourists in the Piazza Maggiore, I recommend having a drink at Punto. It is a delightful bar, located in a very "interesting" side of town.

If you look behind the bar, they have shelves with all the bottles, labeled by style. We tried a few new barrel aged stouts we had never come across, some of which were solid 10/10 beers. The food puts them over the top. The cheddar burger is a tasty burger, but the fries. Oh these fries. They are so crispy, so salty, and almost pinched in the middle so they have a little curl. They are so delicious, a real treat to end a long day's wanderin'. Bonus points because all the staff we interacted with was lovely every time we visited.

When you know you are in a small space which has seen the likes of Muhammad Ali and Anthony Bourdain and many other celebrities, you surely feel you are at the correct spot. Buy food as a takeaway and bring it here. You only need to buy drinks, much cheaper than the same restaurants around. Save yourself and do not sit down at any of those tourist traps. Located in a three-story building a stone's throw east from the main Piazza Maggiore and directly across the alley from Mercato di Mezzo (a separate moderate sized food hall), the Eataly retail space is spread over all 3 floors, with groceries mainly located on the 2nd story. The ground/1st floor is mostly books and a casual bar/cafe, where they serve simple pastries and coffee/tea in the morning and apertivo options (meaning light bites and classic cocktails) in the early evening. Upstairs on the second floor (1st floor for Europeans ;), there is a selection of olive oils, vinegars, condiments, dry goods, snacks, candies, wines and liquors, and gifting items. A smaller selection of grocery items than other Eataly locations and no fresh produce. There is a wine bar/beer garden area upstairs as well though it didn't seem to be in use during the couple times I dropped by in early April, however the still carried quite a broad wine selection considering the space. I dropped by one late afternoon and tried the fried polenta and an aperol spritz. The food was kinda unimpressive, the fried polenta felt a bit thick and heavy, the drink was ok. The down stairs (basement level) restaurant was not open yet but they were serving beer just outside of the entrance on the first floor, middle of the mercato. For beers we had a blond and two pale ales. The ales had a nice red color and a great malty finish to them and although high abv at around 8% they went down rather easy. At €4.5 for a medium pour it seemed well worth it. Their were plenty of tables inside to sit at and the food court offered many great selections if you are hungry.
