Birch Hills is a good place for beginning and high handicap golfers. The staff are friendly and helpful, and make me feel at home. The bunkers need serious attention. I golfed today and it's been weeks since we've had rain, but many of the bunkers have puddles of water in them, and the sand is more muddy than sandy. Give the current hot weather, I see no excuse for such bad conditions. read more

I picked this place to stop and have lunch on my 10 mile walk. Upon arriving at the club house we went into the restaurant area and we were rudely told that the establishment was closed and we needed to leave by the lady working in an office. We went outside and sat down to take a couple minutes to figure out where to go from there. The lady inside looked out and saw us. She then called a worker to come up and kick us out. We said we were just figuring out where we were headed. He apologized but stated we needed to leave. This is not how I would want my employees treating what would have been customers. read more

Super friendly staff at the shop and through out the course. The greens were well maintained along with the fairways. Tee boxes need a little help but overall great course layout. Play was a bit backed up, due to multiple par 3's back to back. The range was closed due to weather, but it looked like a decent range. I would recommend it if you are in the area. read more

I play late in the day with my grandson and am beginning to notice the shortcomings of the course, The collars around the green are unmown and ragged and in places, unplayable. The greens are heavily ball-marked and I repair as many as I can without holding up the groups behind. Despite these issues, the course is fun for a Junior golfer learning to play and is walkable for us, and I'm in my 70's. The pace of play is still very favorable, in my opinion. I still enjoy the short course challenges presented, but chipping around the greens is a crapshoot. They need to get a mower out there. In all fairness, the heatwave we are currently in might be a reason, but it's not a good enough reason to ignore the raggedy collars, and the greens need attention from the players. They need to fix their ball-marks and rake their traps. Will I play there again? I think I'll book another late tee-time for next week. read more

Birch hills golf course is a RIP OFF!!!! I just paid $27 for 3 small buckets for 90 balls vs 1 large bucket of $15 for 100 balls. Their machine is broken so they can only sell 3 small buckets instead of working with the client. They took twice the money for less balls for my kids to play at the range. This is how they are taking your $$$ by making this excuse. DON'T waste your time at this place, EMPLOYEES have no response to this. read more

Enjoyed round of golf last week. Lots of short holes. Crazy they can't get a few more holes over 140 yards. Greens were in decent shape.

Gave this course a second chance. The condition of the course is the same as I play last time. There were dirt next to the green or tee box in multiple holes. The sand in some of the bunkers were super hard as if I am hitting on pavement. I really like the design of this course because I get to practice my short game. Highly recommend to maintain the grass/lawn and bunkers. I paid $40 to play here. It is too pricy to me given the condition of the course is below average. read more

Such a fun 18 hole course majority par 3 with a few par 4s. The skill level even if you are tip top can be challenging for many as in my experience going back and forth from a semi long game to then super short back to mid then short game, it threw me off to challenge myself more than usual. Nicely maintained and friendly staff. Overall a must go if you've never been. read more

Great par 59, mostly par 3 holes to hone your iron play and short game. Birch Hills is conveniently located and reasonably priced course. I always prefer walking with a push cart here since the holes are so close together. On regular days, you can finish a round in about 3-3.5 hours. Members get discounted green fees and range balls. It is a great course for introductory golfers. I look forward to bringing my two young boys soon. The only downside about this course is their range balls. I have never seen a range with so many old dimpleless balls, cracked balls, etc. Once in awhile they introduce new balls but they need to really trash their oldest and unplayable balls. read more

This is a fun executive course. Prices are good and the membership is more than worth it. With the membership I get 1 or 2 free games per year and range balls are half off. It pays for itself. The restaurant and bar have great food and drinks. It's got a nice neighborhood vibe. read more

This is a perfect course for beginners! They're mostly par 3's, so it was less intimidating the longer courses with par 4/5's. What I also like about this course is that I am able to do a twosome when there's not that many people. This enabled me to practice more without the stress of playing with other players. With that said, whenever we're paired up with other people, they're always very nice! There is a range right next to the pro shop, where you can get some quick practice in before the game. The only thing that could use some improvements is the putting green. Other than that, this is one of my go to spots! read more

I've been going here for a year but last week I went for a twilight time after 2pm and their young male casher refused to give me the twilight regular rate of $29 and charged me primetime, twilight price is clearly stated on their website and also on the rate sheet the casher on hand, I later followed up with their manager Nellie but she appears to not know of the rate listed on her own website she manages or she didn't care to read about it, instead she gave me a run around that I am not a member, anyone can go to their link and see the rate clearly for both rewards rate and regular rate: (https://birchhillsgolf.com/brea-rewards/). Super nice short course to work on your short game or just those looking for a walkable course! This pitch and putt course is only 3120 yards off the blue, 2506 yards off red for the woman par 59. The main entrance is located on the corner of Birch/Associate. They do have a driving range with one space between stalls for covid protocol if you want to warmup before your round. There's alot a nice putting green behind the proshop next to the first tee. There are carts available with two max per group of 4 but majority of people walk. The first hole is absolutely a warm up hole as even duff or mishits will roll all the way on the green. But so is pretty much the entire front 9 is with majority par 3's. The back 9 feature some drivable holes on the 13, 17 and challenging 18th with a narrow fairway, water and bunkers in play. Overall a fun executive course for the family or with your friends practice your short game with pretty good conditions. The staff and marshalls are all super friendly and funny with there advice if you ask. The clubhouse is open if you're looking for food or any drinks before/after your round too with the patio area open. There's no cart service on course during covid. read more

A great course for beginners as it's a very short course, shortest hope was about 70yds or so. Easy to make par unless you're a terrible putter like me! The greens are pretty well maintained and wasn't too badly priced for a weekend at 1pm. With how short some of the holes were, they had nice bunker additions to make it tricky and add to it. The pace was great and didn't really get backed up until the last couple holes due to a couple taking their time. The guy working the carts Saturday was a big grump though and should work on his customer service skills. Overall we had a great time and would come back. Review would've been 5 stars if it weren't for that guy at the carts! read more

I am quite surprised that this is the first time I am reviewing Birch Hills. There was a time three to four years ago where I would consistently show up after work two to three times a week, putting my two free buckets of golf balls to use on the driving range as a part of the players program. I dont think that deal exists anymore, but I still want to apologize to the staff and to the grass I killed trying to get my golf ball airborne. Besides showing up at the range at night, those were also some truly dark days in my relationship with golf. These days my game is doing much better which...still is not saying much. My friends and I find ourselves here every three months or so in our course rotation. The course is shorter that makes it a great course to walk. Shots can get monotonous over time but they are all challenging in their own right. There is no hole where there is no penalty for hitting the ball long, which can be easy to do on the shorter holes! The course itself is solid and in good shape for california summers. As others mentioned there are parts of the course that are a work in progress but it is clear that the couse is not being neglected in any way. The staff is super friendly and you can tell there is a community feel to the place. It is for these reasons the course stays in the rotation. Cannot wait to be back. read more

First off the starter and his other old man buddy were flat out rude. The course itself is tiny.. I used a pitching wedge as my driver on half the holes. Because they're all so short the greens look like the surface of the moon covered in craters, good luck putting more than 3 feet. I wasn't a fan of the place, but the bartenders and cashier were very nice and that's the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of one. read more

This is my favorite 18 hole par 3 course! Not a lot of these out there, but this one is highly recommended for beginner golfers. Don't get me wrong, it has it's challenging holes too, but even the par 4s aren't more than 250 yds and some of the par 3s are only 60 yds away. My second time here, I got a birdie and third time here, I got a near hole-in-one! Friendly service, but AM tee times are often hard to secure. I wish they would clean the geese poop at the holes near the water. Last time I was there for an AM tee time, it was poop city! read more

So I've lived in this area nearly 14 years, but never made it out to this course. My first really good look at the course was walking on the Brea tracks walking path. It goes through the front of course and near the clubhouse. This course is shorter than I thought it was. It's about a par 59 and really is more of an executive course. First, kudos to the staff who was friendly and accommodating. It was a lot of people looking to get outside with the pandemic and their staff worked with us on walking, with carts, and the starter was full of tips on ways to play the course. The first hole is truly warm up. Short par three just to get used to the type of course you're gonna be playing. You'll need your driver depending on how long you hit maybe 4-5 times. It's really the back nine that you get to the bigger challenge with the lake coming into play a number of holes. It's definitely more about control on this course. What a great find. I'll be back for sure. read more

Love this course very relaxing play. However this course refuses to answer the phone when you call, I play here often and they NEVER answer the phone when you call the proshop! As well I have been collection course golf balls and this is the only course I have played that refuses to get logo golf balls restocked. They have been saying for 3 months "oh they should come in any day" and they never come in and I can never get them on the phone to ask if they have go them in yet. As well I am a younger guy in my late 20s all the starters here tend to be very rude compared to other golf courses! Great fun course not a good system and workers. read more

I play here regularly with friends. The fairways are always in good condition but golfers need to be better about fixing their divots on the greens. Some of the shorter greens look like a mini-meteor shower cratered a planet. Range mats and balls need some updating but for the price, its a great deal! read more

This was my first time ever playing on a golf course and it was great! Tee time was at 10am Thursday morning and parking was plentiful. The course was clean, well maintained, and very forgiving! There are water ponds so you can loose some balls. We played the full 18 holes and it took about 4 hours. If it's your first time playing a course I would highly recommend Birch Hills. WHY IS THE DRIVING RANGE ALWAYS CLOSED?!? It's beyond frustrating! The hours posted are NEVER accurate, and it feels like they just make up their own schedule depending on the day. I've driven over there so many times, only to find they decided to close randomly close the driving range--complete waste of time! This is absolutely terrible customer service. If you're going to advertise set hours, at least stick to them! read more
