I have two friends who live at Stockel and they rave about the Saturday markets held in the square…read more So after being in Belgium almost two years, I finally bite the bullet, forego my normal Saturday sleep-in and decide to get on the Metro on a rainy and wet March, to haul ass to to these markets with the excuse of getting a waffle and hot chocolate with my friends.
I made it to the markets at around 11:40 (40mins later than planned!!!) and was instantly entranced. There were 3 cheese stores (one sold goat cheese with charcoal, amazing taste!), a Cornish pasty food truck, tons of fruit and veg and flower shops, a honey shop, an amazing charcuterie shop which sold beautiful smoked ham and salami, two different waffle food trucks (I tried both- the big waffle store has sugar cubes and is more traditional but I preferred the small waffle food truck, their dough was heartier, more non-traditional) and also a farm shop selling milk, eggs, butter, yogurt and cheese.
I was in foodie heaven, my senses reveling in the sights, sounds and aromas of the market. I loved it and am gonna try and go here at least once a month starting from now.
