Orion is a film theatre owned by finnish film archives. So it is not commercial cinema but cinema for true film lovers. Check the programme from the website. Usually there are lot of classics scheduled and maybe some new stuff from lesser known film countries. Almost every season there is also a great selection of cult films shown: giallo, spaghetti, horror etc.

That said I find this place to have really comfy seats and a decent amount of leg room. There is also a fair selection of basic eateries attached to/in the complex. The snack selection in this place does not strike me as overwhelming but I am not too much of a candy man, they are over priced though as with all such places. Tickets prices are as reasonable as one can expect with some pretty good offers at certain times (check there web for info). If its a popular flick you want to see do yourself a favour and book before hand or nip in in the morning and buy your tickets, the ques get long at peak times. If you are being pro-active then do yourself a favour and buy your candies before hand also from a local supermark.

This cinema complex in the centre of Helsjnki offers many screens and movies so one is likely to find most of the new big commercial movies here. It is not at al the place for more alternative or older movies. For what it is they offer plenty of options. There is a variety of smaller screens and some really large. The seats are fairly comfortable, clean and viewing quality was good and sound as well (but not in any way extraordinary). The drawback is €15 for a standard movie and in of the smaller rooms and smaller screens they have. Not expensive but also not great value for money. They also sell a lot of candy, snacks and sodas and there is also a cafe there. Price-level is decent but quality could bw better so if you want a coffee with you I would recommend going to Espresso house next door (in Kampi) and for candy/snacks go to one of the grocery stores in Kampi.

Kino Engel is one of the last remaining alternative cinemas in Helsinki. Let me state that again,…read more as far as films go, in the capital city of Finland, there are not many places to see anything that departs from the Hollywood agenda. Well, good thing is that Kino Engel is a lovely little cinema fairly centrally located (in between the cathedral and the harbour) and you can find many different films available there. A challenge for a non-Finnish speaker might be that most films are in all different languages - not always in English - and they are subtitled for the most part only in Finnish and Swedish (various film festivals are the exceptions to this rule). The atmosphere is such, that it makes films a bit better. Perhaps the chairs aren't state of the art, but isn't that part of the experience. During summer time Kino Engel shows films also on its court yard outside and that is to be recommended as well.

Or you just combine those two and add a good glass of wine and maybe some delicious pastry. Then you get Kesäkino Engel. During the summer till late August Cafe Engel and Kino Engel turn their small yard into a summer cinema, combining the best those two places have to offer. Get your drink together with a small snack from the cafe and get comfortable in one of the chairs outside. Should it get to chilly then just grab one of the blankets. The movies, like in Kino Engel, are rather alternative and mainly from Europe. If you don't speak Finnish then be sure to choose one where a language you understand is spoken.
