What were once the cool digital kids when Bill Clinton was turning 1600 Pennsylvania into a fraternity house... are now the stuff of landfill legend... and most thrift shops. I've long been a fan of physical media not trusting the permanence and/or reliability of the cloud or the ever changing landscape of streaming. That's where Goodwill comes in. Why pay twenty bucks to Amazon for music or movies when lightly used classics can be found strewn among a few hundred Jane Fonda workout tapes with change back from your dollar. Sure it takes time to shift through the crap but Beatles remasters and a Blu-ray Citizen Kane for couch coin is certainly worth the time. Not worth the time is that pair of Calvin Klein jeans. Maybe next month. Five easy stars.

Hello? Is this thing on? Not really sure why no one reviews thrifts stores, because they are NOT…read moreall created equal, haha. I like this 2nd Ave location for their extensive glass wears sections, but it really grinds my gears that they have started selling matching pieces only in full sets. I can totally understand selling in pairs, but 9/10 I don't need a full 6pc set or some random glass wear, and guess what? If I did, I would just buy the three pairs of two. It doesn't make sense to me. Also just as a general observation, 2nd Ave stores have been getting super expensive lately for a chain that operates solely on donations. You mean to tell me a secondhand piece of clothing is $25 when you got it for free? Kindof a rip off. Sure I can complain, but you bet your bottom I'm going to be here at least one Saturday or Sunday every weekend looking for stuff I don't need so LOL. Takeaways: selection is good but prices be whack these days.

Danny posts items he liquidates from estate sales via Facebook Marketplace. He sold me a pair of…read moreRTR speakers from the 1970's for $180. Once I brought them home, I realized they were shot. Mildew inside of the cabinets and they are useless without spending a considerable amount of money to restore them. He sold them to me out of his home and when i reached out to him to let him know the situation, he ignored my messages. He then calls me to tell me I had the opportunity to check them out before purchasing. I bought them in good faith knowing that most mature, adult people do not sell non-working items for good money without first determining if they are working or not. When I arrived to pick them up, I was greeted by his son who was waiting on the porch for me with the speakers on display for me to check out. They were a little rough but I figured I could clean them up. I had to take them apart to discover the water damage. I paid for them and loaded them in the truck. I was looking through some loose 45 rpm records when Dan arrived home. He told me abruptly that he and his sons/employees had to leave immediately. I asked how much for the 15 loose records I chose and he told me they would most likely cost more than I wanted to pay. He wanted $2 each so I passed! It's all about the money with some folks. He basically told me ALL SALES ARE FINAL and to go get lost. I would not want to hire this guy to clean out my toilet let alone the estate of a family member or loved one at such a time. Shyster Alert!

I would definitely recommend American Furniture Exchange!…read more Danny Downs is the owner and hands down is the best in the business. My parents had passed and we needed the house empty for the buyer to have their walk thru prior to closing. Danny came looked over what we had, you tell him what you want removed, then gave us a price for costume jewelry etc., which was deducted off the total. Then he gave a date when his crew would arrive to empty the contents. I didn't even need to be there, he got a key through the real estate. When I arrived later in the day the place was empty! I mean empty. Compared to others in the same business, Danny Downs pricing is more than competitive. Honest, dependable, and trustworthy. Use American Furniture Exchange . . . you won't be sorry.
