The original reason I went to Dr. Thorp was due to a very emotional and serious break up with a…read morementally ill person who up until that point never appeared mentally ill. The only reason I am even gracing her page with 1 Gold star is because she managed to help provide some mental clarity and understanding to a complex situation which is what I was so desperately grasping and in need for because the events that transpired with that person defined all logic. Now let me break down to you why she is still an ineffective therapist that even with that situation can barely help anyone. For one she isn't on call for support when you are on the verge of reaching out to that abuser, if I didn't have a fantastic support system from my family I would have gone back to that person. The reason people pay for a therapist is normally because they don't have that needed support structure all the time from friends and family so they are willing to pay to obtain it. If that is what you are seeking keep on looking because you won't find it from her. Second problem is the fact that she never listens, I have explained my entire situation of being inured in the classroom and now being an IEP student and all the affects it has had and what doctors have said etc and whenever I mention something from either last session or more back she asks questions like it's the first time she's hearing about certain things. That is so annoying and frustrating and time wasting because it's only 50 min sessions and the time being spent for myself to explain things I've already told her over and over again and sometimes multiple times in the same session because she forgets even there, it's a waste of valuable resources that could be spent elsewhere. If you're looking for a competent therapist who will not only listen, actually takes notes on her note pad instead of keeping it for decoration on her lap, work on developing a relationship with you, one that feels genuine and sincere in her actions and memory then look elsewhere because that's not what you will find here. You will find here a woman who literally doesn't care, just wants to let you vent and collect a pay check, she is not invested in your journey and will not provide you tools and solutions to problems, if anything she will cut you off and not let you fully express your thoughts and opinions and be like, "You're not over that yet?" You will be left with nothing but anger and frustration and not the good kind of anger of self discovery but the kind that you could get for free at your local supermarket because the cashier doesn't understand what you're saying or looking for. Bottom line don't waste your time with this one, look for a therapist that actually cares about their job and the quality care they provide you.

My experience with dr thorp has been most positive and life changing…read more I felt an easy connection with her immediately and pleased at her education and intellect. She has given me tools which have helped, in turn, other family members as well as myself. Our time goes much too fast, but rarely do I leave her office without some great epiphany. Her personality is relaxed and thus, I too feel comfortable in her care. Finding her was a godsend to me. I have been to other therapist in my past and there was always something uncomfortable or baffling. I know a lot of the importance to therapy is that connection, just like in social situations. Ninety per cent or more of people you meet are fine, but just not someone you'd necessarily make a good friend with. That's the importance of interviewing ones doctor and not settling. All that being said, I believe dr thorp is compassionate and loves what she does. I read the other reviews and can't connect or agree with their comments.

This place is sent from the gods and amazing. Don't believe any of the hater reviews (those come…read morewith emotionally unhappy people). I was locked in a heroin addiction with really no options. They got me Medicaid on the spot and took me into triage that same night. I spent 5 days detoxing and ended up staying for the program a full 21 days on C wing. The nurses are caring, beautiful, smart and definitely under appreciated to some people I see here. They are all each one wonderful personalities and interesting. The two docs come every morning and the food is x2 (lol) super bomb. Rooms are clean and there is a view of the mountains. There was a nurse who was very important to me and motivated me to go to a wrap up group one night when I was still sore and sick feeling and within days, once I felt better, I was elected to run the morning goal meeting and night time wrap up groups. Which I took very seriously. She gave me the positive energy to channel the program and complete it. Brown skin, long hair, a boss of an RN for such a small gymnast built of a woman. She inspired me... I won't mention names on here besides my own. I'm just that way. Secretive selective Scorpio lol. Anyway Along this journey I formed many friendships and even got a Lemurian Seed Crystal from my rock ceremony when you leave from an ancient healing medicine man aka buddha in blue. I could go on and on about the wonderful people and the arts crafts events jeopardy trivia games protein shakes amd meditation groups. But I think you get my drift. These people are amazing with that Tahoe vibe. I'm very thankful to this place. I have been on this earth thousands of years and was an ancient scribe in predynastic times. As an ancient x3 reincarnated 38 year old Polymath dreamwalker I approve this place. If you need help seek it now. And I leave you with a Rumi quote. My attempts to get her to interact with me on a more personal level were thwarted. I left feeling alienated and unseen. When I subsequently complained to CTBH, I was told that I "should have expected" this, since the first session is an assessment, not therapy. (They did not mention this when I made the appointment). They also claimed that "all mental health providers do this." I've been through enough counseling over the years to know that it is not normal for a therapist to treat you as if you are not human. I don't doubt that other counselors I've seen did an assessment, however they did it WHILE doing therapy, not INSTEAD OF therapy. I believe it is possible to do both. The charge for this "assessment" visit was almost $700, which insurance refuses to pay even though the facility is in-network. The CTBH billing dept has been completely unhelpful even while admitting that they have a known ongoing issue with their State of NV insurance contract. They have referred the issue to "billing review" which I was initially told would take two weeks. When I checked back after that time, I was rudely informed that they hadn't gotten to it yet, and there was "no timeline" for how long it might take. The appointment was over five months ago and this unresolved bill hanging over my head is just causing me more stress and adding to my mental health burden. At this point, I feel disappointed and discouraged from seeking any therapy at all.
