At the express recommendation of a Broadway connoisseur friend, I booked tickets for a summer production of Catch Me If You Can here and my (admittedly low) expectations were exceeded.
I appreciated the ease of online ticket purchase. It was also straightforward to show up with the scannable ticket on my phone for entry; no dead trees required.
The venue itself was generously air conditioned, the seats were spacious and comfortable, and I didn't have to wait in line to use the restroom during intermission. Find me any musical in NYC that can boast the same and I will be shocked and awed.
From what I could ascertain from our program (purchased for a $5 donation), many of the performers are actively in school studying musical theater or adjacent majors. Broadly, the cast was quite young, but demonstrate promise. Admittedly, I wasn't wowed by the vocals, but I'll also acknowledge that everyone in the production sang better than I could. Both costuming and choreography were better than I anticipated.
If you find yourself in the area during the summer, get yourself to a show at the Bigfork Center for Performing Arts. There's a production for everyone and--at a very reasonable ~$40 a ticket--it's a cute, easy option for a date or family night out. read more
