For those who know…read moreIstanbul, know that there has been one bar (Lucca) that has kept its popularity over the years, despite its small indoors, and has had people overflowing on to the streets. Now, since about a year a new trendy place has opened up and that is Any. It has become the neighborhood hangout, whether it's for brunch, lunch or dinner, drinks or partying. People meet up here now at all times of the day and it is always crowded. Since my best friend lives right above it, I have been here several times each time I visit Istanbul. It has a chilled atmosphere during the day, but at night it suddenly becomes the trendy place to be. Starting with drinks the crowd moves on to a club atmosphere when at 11 all the tables and chairs in the middle get removed and turn into a dancefloor. The DJ plays on Fridays and Saturdays until 3 in the morning, when the lights go on again. There is also a second floor to dine but it is only reserved for big groups. The brunch menu is rich, like any Turkish brunch menu offering a wide range of yummy options. What's great for Tourists or non-turks are two special items on the menu: pork-ribs and Frankfurter Sausage. As a Frankfurter, I of course had to try the interpretation of our sausage. It is definitely not a Frankfurter from a local's perspective but rather a crossover between Frankfurter and Bratwurst with a buttery middle. Served together with pickles and potatoes with red peppers. Like I said, it the interpretation accord to local taste but definitely yummy. The ribs come with a housemade sauce which is a little like barbeque sauce but a little spicier. The drinks menu is also extensive and delicious as well with a variety of cocktails. Do try the cocktail with Ginseng, it is quite refreshing!

Like their first location in Asmali, Babylon is not to big and not to small. Despite a packed crowd for Lee Field and the Expressions and only one bar, I didn't find it impossible to get a drink. Babylon is a great suggestion for guests visiting Istanbul wanting to have a fun night out! Easily a 5 star venue.

Babylon Bomonti is an excellent music venue with great acoustics and sound and lighting that serves up quality international jazz and the best of the local scene. On April 30, we saw on the main bill the world-class Alfredo Rodríguez Trio playing to an almost full house, followed by crowd favourites Korhan Futacı & Kara Orchestra who played to a packed house. Tickets to the headline act were 45 TRY, but that allowed us to stay for the second band. Drinks inside the venue were pricey at 35 TRY for a glass of sauvignon blanc and 15 TRY for a regular bottle of EFES Pilsen. But the show was worth every lira. A brilliant night's entertainment that had the crowd calling for more from the Alredo Rodriguez Trio then really getting into the local band. Our first visit, but for sure not our last. The venue itself was a delight, with a couple of bars inside the former brewery that looked good and Delimonti, which appeared to be a high-end cheese and wine bar that we definitely want to try. The acts started about 30 minutes after the advertised time. So next time we go, we'll start with Delimonti about 21:00 then catch a band scheduled for 22:00 most likely at 22:30. Tonight we left about 01:30 before Korhan Futacı and friends finished. Taxis were queuing up to take us home. A great night out and a solid 5 stars.
