OMG you guys. if you're in need of a tattoo but on the fence on where you need to go, I highly…read moresuggest coming to see anyone here at Everybody Tattoo. I got my first tattoo here yesterday from the amazing Jill, & could not be more pleased or have had a better experience!
a little backstory on me. like most people in utah, i came from an LDS family and grew up in the religion. I knew I wanted a tattoo about three years ago, & was always pressured by one of my best friends to go get one with her, but I had no clue if I could even commit to that. I didn't know what I would get, & still occasionally attended church. I also didn't want to upset or offended anyone in my family. Fast forward to 2018, I was now married and my husband and I (despite our families wishes) decided to leave the LDS faith. at this point, tattoos were something I knew I wanted, but I didn't know where to start. I knew I needed to commit to a design, an artist, etc. but STRUGGLED to commit to anything. even though i was no longer attending church, I felt like I'd be disappointing my parents and extended family. so I decided to go small and get one on my ankle, a little half moon. couldn't be too bad right? an easy cover up, wouldn't take too long to get, so the pain wouldn't be awful, & the prices would be on the lower side, right?
for a year, I shopped around trying to decide where to go, and was always disappointed in the price points for such a small, detail-less tattoo. the trendy shops in SLC always were always asking around $120 or more, and I was so discouraged. I also was not impressed with any of the work I saw, with any specific artist or shop in general. I read reviews, looked at instagram pages, made phone calls- nothing or nobody stood out. I was about to settle, but then I came across Jill's instagram page. her work was absolutely beautiful and the exact thing I wanted on my body. I was so so happy I found her! I stalked her page for a few months, until a month ago when she made a post about how she was only tattooing in UT for the summer, then she was headed to NYC for a job offer she had accepted and was going to moving there permanently. I knew I had to act quick and see her before it was too late!
I went on the website to inquire, at this point I figured if I was gonna spend the money & use an artist like her, I better do it for myself, & get something I actually WANTED, not something my family would deem acceptable, because in reality, they would find no tattoos acceptable. jill's signature design is her hands, so I asked about getting a hand holding a flame. she responded to my inquiry and was really excited about my idea. I paid my deposit and scheduled a month in advance, giving myself time to save enough for it.
I came to the shop yesterday and didn't know what to expect, but i was blown away! i probably couldn't dream up a more gorgeous place. during my tattoo, we were able to chat with jill & she explained that the shop opened up only in early may, so they were brand new! I looked at the work of the other artists and was so impressed by everyone! I honestly think this is the most talented shop of artists in the entire city. everyone's work is eclectic and unique, yet everyone's style is their own. I also felt so comfortable being there, jill & gheybin the owner, were both a breath of fresh air. I've been in shops with my friends before where the employees are stand offish & act like their better than their customers, but you will NOT find that here.
I was also surprised that getting the tattoo didn't hurt as bad as I expected. obviously it didn't feel good, but it wasn't super painful. I got it on the back of my arm just above my elbow, which isn't that bad of a spot in terms of pain. I'm so so so SO happy with the way it looks & cant wait for it to fully heal! if you're trying to see jill before she leaves, I would act fast because she's all booked up most the summer & leaves the end of august! luckily the other artists are just as talented, so I can't imagine being disappointed with work done by someone else! I already want to come back and get more work done!
