I am doing an update to my review because most recently we were able to go on the all-day Head of…read morethe Lake cruise rather than one of the shorter ones. Many similarities to the shorter cruises exist: the ticket buying an departure process, the available seating and the narration provided by history teacher Ben. Due to the constraints of needing a larger crew and the logistics of the meals offered, slightly fewer tickets are sold and it only took place once this year. The cruise sells out, so reserve early if you can. This year the cost was $90 per person, which may have been the senior price. As you are boarding at 10:00, they are serving coffee and hot water for tea or cocoa, and three kinds of juices. There is also a continental breakfast assortment: pastries, blueberry cake, yogurt and granola and fruit. After everyone including the crew have been served, they allow people to get seconds. Sometime after 1:00 they served a turkey dinner. The turkey itself seemed dry and slightly overdone to me, but turkey is not my thing. The mashed potatoes, stuffing, squash and canned veggies were fine. A roll and gravy tops the meal off, and dessert was pie and vanilla ice cream or canned whipped topping. I had the blueberry pie and it was fine. Water or soda comes with the meal, but they also sell wine and beer in the galley. The rest is the scenery up to the head of the lake and back again, the stories behind older businesses and legends that have been passed around about people in the region. And of course the history of the Katahdin boat itself,

As another Yelper mentioned, the ship is boarded by calling out names (I do believe in order of purchase,) so no need to get there early to grab a good seat (not a bad seat in the house), but parking is limited so you may want to arrive earlier to secure a spot in the lot. Tickets can be purchased right there at the museum/gift shop ahead of time or online. They have a really good food and beverage selection ( a menu is provided when boarding) , or you can bring your own food (but not your own alcohol-that is for sale onboard). We brought our lunch but did purchase some sodas (long slow moving line). We sat on the bow for most of the journey there and back, but also walked around to check out the views from different vantage points. There are lots of photos and historical items scattered throughout. The way out is narrated with historical and other facts and landmarks. The way back is not narrated as they are doing tours of the engine room and the bridge. The captain and crew were friendly, jovial and knowledgeable. We loved the opportunity to steer the ship! Awesome experience. I would highly recommend this trip to not only get a different perspective of Maine's largest lake and it's surroundings, but to fully appreciate its enormity and beauty. Breathtaking. The ticket also includes a visit to the Maritime museum right at the dock. Fantastic all around!

MooseHead Area Rentals East Cove Property…read more We stayed in this property in July 2017. What a beautiful home. Outstanding kitchen and plenty of room for eating. The dining room had a table long enough to seat all eleven of us. We were there as a family reunion vacation. My daughter and her husband and two boys and my son and his wife and three girls. There was a bedroom for each of the adult couples and a great bunk bed room for all the children. We requested a couple of kayaks and a canoe. They were there waiting for us when we arrived. A leisurely canoe ride into the Town of Greenville to get ice cream was an every day event. The view of the lake was tremendous. A fire pit allowed a campfire and smores every night. The house was very clean and well kept. There were brochures about the area waiting for us when we arrived. Lots of games in the house was fun as well. Dennis, the property manager, was always available if we had questions both before we arrived and during our stay . We took advantage of Moose Watching trips, fishing trips and lots of hiking opportunities. We just had a great time and I highly recommend this property.

From seating to serving of first course took 75 minutes, to main course 95 minutes, including hot dogs from the kids menu. First course of soup and stuffed mushrooms was excellent. Main course of salad with steak, ribs, and salmon was soo overcooked the steak was like beef jerky! Salmon burned in several areas, and ribs very dry! Apologies for long wait received but no attempt at any bill adjustments requested and none received. Will certainly attempt not to eat there again!

The sirloin steak was too tough to cut with a steak knife let alone eat. The shrimp on the shrimp scampi was very good but the noodles and sauce were not. Too bad the food was far less than average.

Was very happy to have stumbled upon Phil's 100 Mile Wilderness for a whole host of reasons. First, Phil made it simple and easy and gave us peace of mind. Knowing we would be entering a 100 mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail with no stores or simple exit routes meant we had to be 100% on everything and Phil helped make that happen for us. It started with a stay in a private cabin so we could get a good night's sleep before getting dropped off at Able Bridge. We had hot showers, fresh towels, free sodas, and a nice tour of everything else available to us. Early the next morning, we had coffee and then was off to our drop off location. Two stop options for food, last minute items we may need and bathroom breaks were helpful. At the drop off, Phil told us he knows all the entry/exit points along the trail so if someone rolled an ankle or got sick, he's would be there to help. Just text him and he would give instructions. Only thing one needs to know is that Verizon works in most areas while AT&T worked hardly anywhere. We never needed Phil's help and completed our North to South trip without a hitch but we felt confident that had we needed help, Phil would be there for us. It gave us a comfortable feeling. Food drops were key and this was another area where Phil did a stellar job. We had a choice of one or two food drop areas. We chose two and at each, we resupplied, emptied our garbage, left unneeded items, grabbed complementary sodas and continued on our way. When we got back in town, we stayed one more night - enjoyed the clean, hot showers and a restful night in a real bed before driving home. If you want to hike the 100 Mile Wilderness, I highly recommend Phil's company. He's more than a businessman - more like a friend in Maine. The prices are very reasonable too. Remember to buy a map from Phil and have him mark it up for you with all the best (unlisted) camping spots so you don't have to get stuck in a high use area where you lose that feeling of being away from everyone. We just loved his secret spots - all with access to water.

Phil gave me a tour of his place and provided some valuable tips. Coffee was ready in the morning - I appreciated the company (from both Phil and Woody). Cabin was ready when we arrived. Phil was as engaging as ever. He dropped us at Abol Bridge in the morning. Unfortunately my sister fell and tore her ACL on the hike. Phil provided instructions for how to get her out and even, personally hiked in to look for us. After she got off trail, he helped me plan a two day solo hike. Really awesome place! I now think of Phil as a friend. I'd highly recommend.

The campsite we had was perfect. Right next to the Dead River. The young people that I had with me were bored after the trip so they were able to use the ducky boats to go down the river to a landing at crusher hole. They had a lot of fun doing this. Bethany was our guide for the first trip. We hadn't been in the run very long when one of my sons (The one that thought this was going to be a carnival ride) slipped out and became a swimmer. With her ability we were able to retrieve him and continue on. The cookies at the snack stop were excellent. The lunch/early dinner was delicious. On my second trip my fiancee and I went on the start of our week vacation starts on the labor day weekend. We had a lot of fun with all of the people that were around prior to the big water run down the Dead River on Sunday. We had to get primed for the trip. The camp site we had was not on the river this time but an excellent place to camp. The trip on Sunday was awesome just like the June trip. We had others in our group that we got to know. This made the trip even more fun. The dinner and party that night was great. The people up there are so nice that we decided to stay until Thursday. We Kayaked with the help of the shuttle and we hiked around the hills. If I were to find a fault is that there is was no electric or water and no dumping station. There are however showers and bathrooms that are clean and well lite. I have heard rumors that water and electric may have been installed. This may sound like an advertizement but it is not. This is truly a wonderful experience for any family, couple or group. I highly recommend this wonderful piece of heaven for your family outing. P.S. The bar is the coolest bar in Maine.
