What a great experience we had with Big Island Motorcycle...we rented a Polaris Slingshot yesterday and had such a blast. The rental process was so smooth. I called the day before and reserved the slingshot on line. I would highly suggest this as it saves lots of time. Because once you get there it's only a matter of going over the vehicle. Don't expect to get the bike on the webpage. They changed the seat and passenger back rest to a much smaller one and when i asked to switch he said "nope." Even though there were plenty to switch with and it literally takes 30 seconds. Guy said we could park our vehicle in the lot overnight "no problem." So it's been a while since this experience. I actually have a couple Harleys (Ultra Glide 103 and a Breakout 114). The only "trouble with controls" that I had was finding neutral. Having owned metrics, I was just used to having a positive neutral. Simply acknowledging that yeah, Harley's don't have that positive neutral you're used to would have gone a long way here. It was a lot of fun riding a bike in Hawaii. I still stand by the fact that there were times the tranny didn't want to downshift and when the throttle stuck open. A little unnerving on wet roads. I'm sure these guys do their best to maintain these bikes. Intermittent problems are always a challenge to resolve, but that doesn't make the person who experienced them a liar. read more

I have rented beach and snorkel gear from this place many times. Usually received friendly service and good recommendations. Today was different, we stopped by before our rental was open. We asked about renting two chairs for a week, $35 each. My wife said that we thought Costco sold them for that, but we didn't want to go back in town and buy chairs. Two hours later we got into the rental and found several chairs. I immediately went back to the shop, we are less than 0.1 mile away. I brought the chairs in and the fellow says we don't do refunds, so we paid $70+ for two hours use of chairs that didn't leave our car. I understand if we came back wanting a refund after a few days, but the fellow didn't want to be bothered with doing the right thing. How hard can a refund be? I was disappointed that the cool beach vibe doesn't extend beyond taking our money! read more

This snorkeling equipment rental store is really reasonably priced in Waikoloa Beach area in King's shopping mall. There is no need to bring your own or rent from other places when you stay at resort. We rented $8/day and a beach umbrella $5/day while Resort rent is $55/day for hotel customers. It is unbeatable price for one week $25 too. Strongly recommending this place! read more

We rented snorkel gear from this little shop. Great selection including the full face style! Only $30 for the week. Our resort was $15/hr... super friendly and gave us tips on where to go. We stayed at Hilton Waikoloa Village and practiced in the lagoon. A-Bay was too cloudy but we drove down to Kona later in the week and snorkeled at Kahalu'u Beach Park. Tons of fish and even saw a turtle! read more

It's not the fastest way to get around, but it does the job, is a thrill, and is easy if you don't have a motorcycle license. My husband rented 4 bikes for the week for us and our two kids. We were so disappointed in the quality of the adult bikes. They squeaked so loudly it was hard to enjoy the ride. Each time we went out his chain came off at least once. They were rusty and were about what I would expect if I bought an old bike at a garage sale. We decided to just return them a day early since they were so awful. The person at the shop didn't seem to care and asked if we had tools at our rental that we could have fixed them with. I was irate because we spent $400. I would never recommend this place to anybody. read more

He gave me all the information I asked about amd I myself have 3 motorcycles and wanted to rent one to tour the island and he made the process simple. People don't risk going somewhere they hide in small print or hit you with ridiculous extra costs, go to this place. Wifey and I booked our vacation to Hawaii naively thinking we could make it without a rental car (my bad) equally naively thinking last minute rentals could be had at Christmas time (my bad 2x). So with secret hopes of buzzing around paradise on a scooter I derailed wifey's rental and we stumbled into Waikoloa with no wheels. Enter Dustin at Big Island Motorcycle. Thanks to our little scooter--a last minute walk up rental--we enjoyed two days of exploring nearby beaches chasing snorkeling dreams. The shop is small, knowledgeable and friendly. Dustin showed me the ropes in a few minutes, gave me some pointers, and threw in a pair of flippers for free. The scooter even had a souped up engine so we could ride together. Despite wind, bad roads, high swell, and limited snorkeling, we had the adventure we had been seeking. We got to see much more than we would have with a car, and I got the wind and sun in my face, an engine beneath me, and the wifey holding on. Dustin even drove out to help us when we called. Great service, convenient location, and the right price and vehicle for our vacation. Wifey says I need to get a motorcycle license for our next trip so we can take out the Harley. I've been riding sportbikes on O'ahu as my daily driver for the last 9 years, but have never motorcycled on another island. It just so happens I had a great excuse to travel to the Big Island for the day specifically to rent a motorcycle and experience how riding the Big Island is different from O'ahu. I found most rental places featured cruisers, not my style. Then I found Big Island Motorcycle Co.'s website, and their sportbike FZ6R. The company's reviews were good, and it was close enough to the airport to make it practical. I emailed the owner a few times before arriving on the island and always received polite and prompt replies. The pricing was very reasonable, when you consider they are maintaining the bike, paying insurance fees for a rental vehicle (which I assume are more than we pay for our individual bikes), they are paying overhead/office space/etc. Ask yourself this, would you rent out YOUR bike for $120-$150? Probably not! I felt it was a great deal. I recommend getting to the shop a little before 9:30am (open time). As soon as 9:30 came around, a handful of patrons came to rent various things. Fortunately, I sneaked in first and was helped by Tim, who was great. Within a few minutes, I was on the bike and ready to go. (Although, I didn't need to be fitted for any helmets/jackets/etc, I brought my own gear.) I handed over my credit card for payment, drivers license, and in return was handed registration, insurance, and keys and told to have a great time. Very simple. Before departing I inspected the motorcycle and tested the basic functions. Aside from being cosmetically nice, the FZ6R was well maintained and operated like a top. I rode about 230 miles and had no problems whatsoever! At the time of rental, the bike had about 35-37K miles IIRC, but rode like it was brand new! My route took me from the shop to Hawi (to see the original kamehameha statue), onward to Pololu for a little scenery at the lookout, and then down the hamakua coast, took the 'scenic route' for 4 miles, continued to Hilo and then hopped over Saddle Road back to Waikoloa. With minimal stops/sightseeing/food/gas, I suspect I actually rode for about 7 1/2 hours. I later saw on the website that you can contact the company in advance to schedule an early pickup. I'm not sure if doing this costs extra, but, even if it is a minor additional charge I would highly recommend trying to get an early pickup. Not only will you avoid the rush of people that others have referenced, but you'll get more time on the road and more time to explore, explore the 'hey, I wonder what's up there?', and simply get lost a little and enjoy the refreshing new roads. I highly recommend this company. My experience was very positive, and I am already planning for a return to Big Island to see what I couldn't see on this last trip. I will definitely return to big Island Motorcycle Co. They do it right. read more

Rented the 2016 Kawasaki Versys today and had a great time! Took SR200 to Hilo and ended up driving through a rain cloud with very low visibility (literally having "my head in the clouds") - something I've never driven through being from Florida, but an amazing experience I'll never forget. We had a great experience! We walked in to rent some snorkel gear and we were fitted to make sure the gear was going to fit and work properly. We planned to also rent 1 boogie board to share but they ended up giving us 2 for the price of 1! Finally, I left my swim shoes in the bag with the snorkel gear when we returned them and they shipped them to me.... IN MISSOURI!
