Just stayed another 5 days at the hotel while exploring, going to the rodeo, Yellowstone, South Pass City. This time in the cabins and the views were incredible and the prices were more than fair. Also had an issue with our truck and had to repair the front bearings,so they accommodated another night on July 1st for us. I can't give a higher review to a motel on our 16 day road trip. This was our 4th time staying there and it was even better. Right next to 1800s town!!! Walked to the rodeo!!! And amazing views and polite staff!!! read more

Great place with a very nice manager! The room was cute with a cowboy motif. It was clean and very comfortable. The bed was firm but not too firm. Lots of clean towels! We ask about breakfast and he recommended a local place that did not disappoint. The parking lot is gravel instead paved which I imagine works better in the winter since they get a lot of snow. We stayed over the memorial day weekend. The pictures on line do not match what you received upon arrival. The room was extremely small, the tub was broken along with the bed. Didn't offer a new room and that wasn't even the worst part. We came back from our day out and our bag had been knock on the the ground and there was a bottle that had broken. They left it on the floor then when we said something we were told oh the housekeeper probably didn't know she had knock it over. They offered no apologies. Also medication had be messed with and when asked about that the manager said thats my wife your talking about. Again no explanation just deflection and excuses. He then said we had went to far and need to leave. Never offered an apology or anything. Have to say I have never be kicked out of a hotel for lodging a complaint that they caused. Spend the little extra and stay somewhere else. read more

A group of five of us travelled over 1300 miles to hike and needed a place to stay afterward. We stumbled upon this motel and it was truly a great place to stay! The owner was very kind and generously upgraded our room to best accommodate our group. The rooms were clean, the water pressure was fabulous, and there was even a nice pool area to relax in. My grandparents built this hotel originally so I was kind of excited to go back and stay. I have to say upon arrival not much, is changed. They did add a second floor to one side of the hotel. The pool wasn't filled. It looked like it was ready to get some work done or needed work done. I was greeted very friendly by one of the owners who treated me very well. I was provided with the room that was pet friendly, which I think what they mean is pet friendly as it has no carpeting. The room itself is rustic not bad. It has a lot of amenities to it, such as a microwave and a mini refrigerator, a television, a little place to sit at a table and chairs. The king size bed, however, has seen better days I think if they maybe put a little bit of money into some updated mattresses and bedding, it would be better. The air conditioning unit didn't function very well. It didn't get cold as fast as it really should have and at times the television didn't work it would freeze and not do anything and I think that's because they're using an aerial for all the rooms to save money. The price is good I don't think they should be charging $25 per night for pets in a room that doesn't even have carpeting. There's no damage that could be done by pets. The pet area to take you out for potty it's fairly nice. They have lots of areas of plastic bags for you to grab and use if needed. I think all in all for the price you pay it's a good little place to stay. People were friendly it's rustic, but I think that's what tourists are looking for when I go there. A step back in time. A mom and pop motel that was a lot of fun. They had a singer at night that played by the lobby. They also have horse rides and a small pony that rides a golf cart. Rooms were clean. They are all a bit different and comfortable. The staff was super friendly. We only spent one night as we traveled through Cody. They have a pool and a play ground as well. Old fashion keys for the rooms. WiFi worked well. I would stay here again if back in the area. read more

We were in one of the older rooms, I guess, because some of the photos show rooms that have been renovated, and I was hoping we would receive one of those. If you don't mind feeling like you went back in time a few decades, Big Bear Motel will get the job done for you. It's not very modern, not even the decor. Our heater seemed very old and we really had to crank it to stay warm along with lots of blankets... BUT we were also in one of their biggest rooms (if not THE biggest), so there was a lot of space to heat. Not only that, but we were very recent ex-Californians at the time experiencing our first sub-30 degree weather in years, so it's possible we were just sissies. That being said, our room was pretty clean. Aside from a flat screen tv, there were no other notable amenities, but all we really needed was a place to close our eyes for the night, so we didn't mind. The staff (and/or owners) were very friendly. Definitely nothing to complain about on that front. All smiles and courtesy. I got the impression they really take pride and enjoyment in making their guests happy. The proximity to Yellowstone is obviously an added convenience. If you're in the area and need a place to stay in a pinch, Big Bear Motel might not blow you away, but it'll get the job done without giving you any serious problems to complain about. read more

If you are traveling with children you must STAY here. Even without, it is a nice place to stay but watching the kids was the best part. This motel offers a clean pool and horseback rides and pony rides (this was the cutest). The rooms are larger and clean and the hotel staff were soooo friendly. I can't say enough good things about this charming place. Initially intended to stay two nights but we were enjoying Cody so much, we added a night with an even better rate than when we booked online. What sets the Big Bear Motel apart is the way they make you feel like family from the moment you walk in the door. Bill, the owner, was so gracious in answering all our questions and making recommendations to us for restaurants and travel plans. All the family and non-family members were so pleasant and hardworking, always offering a smile and "good morning." We had 5 people in a pet friendly room with a roll away bed. It could be a tight squeeze with two dogs but the little table and chairs just outside the room really helped as we could enjoy morning coffee and evening beverages out there. I believe there are some renovated accommodations available at the motel, but our pet friendly room was just fine. It was so great to have laminate floors and the beds were very comfortable! As mentioned in other reviews, the horse rides and cowboy singer add to the charm and the good vibes here. If your looking for a a quirky family friendly experience then this is the place. They offer 5 star friendly and engaging staff, large clean rooms that are comfortable and quiet. We were to spend a night in Cody on our way out of Yellowstone to Sturgis. We found this place for the three of us. I called the hotel and they suggested a newer room with bunk beds. It was a huge room and can accommodate five easily. And with moving space etc. It is a motel, looks like one and acts like one. Everything extra, including ice. No coffee machine in the room, which is always a pain. But right next to the Rodeo, which was great. My son and I saw our first rodeo. When I carried our laundry to the communal washing machine over the dusty, gravelly grounds of the motel, I felt like a pioneer/miner wife taking her washing to I don't know where they took it. Overall, surprising value for money, especially if you are travelling in season. read more

And did I mention how clean it was? Bring you own soap though. I have been reading the later reviews that this hotel is a good choose and I must say that I don't really agree with most of them. This is not one of my favorite hotels for our last vacation at all. I will admit there was good and bad things about this hotel. I'm going to start with the bad because there are much more of those. First of all, the "cabin" we stayed in was a extra large storage shed. I know because I have one almost exactly like it at my house that I use at a workshop. Just like mine it has a porch and a couple of small windows. This "cabin" was located behind the motel with four others almost side-by-side in front of the horse corral. The lights inside were connected so you can either turn all the lights on or all the lights off nothing in between. There was a small bathroom in the back and a sink and a place to hang your clothes. There was no lamp beside the bed and the only thing you had to sit on, besides the bed, was a half table attached to the wall and two wooden barstools. It had a TV, but it was so fuzzy that you could not hardly see it. They said they had Wi-Fi but no one in my party could ever get enough signal to use it. We even drove in the parking lot to the office to see if the signal got better but it did not! The soap and shampoo they provided were super cheap. And there wasn't enough parking near the "cabin" so instead of trying to squeeze my car into a tiny space I parked out front and walked. There was no carpet on the floor, and if you were sleeping in one of the beds, the bathroom door opened about a foot from your head. Now he tell you some of the good things about the motel. If you have kids and I want to experience the cowboy life of Cody. There are some things here for you. (Maybe). The motel is family-friendly. Every afternoon they bring out a couple of horses and a pony and let people ride them. Now let me say right means that you put on a helmet get on the horse or pony and an employee of the motel guides the horse around the dirt parking lot. There is also a gentleman with the dog that sings songs with the kids outside the office. And a bale of hay with a plastic steers head on it where the kids can try out the roping skills. The "cabin" was new, and everything was clean. Now for the reason that I gave this motel a two star rating instead on a one. From my research, this hotel is one of the cheaper ones in Cody Wyoming. I keep telling myself I guess you get what you pay for. To conclude, I recommend unless this is specifically the kind of experience you won't, avoid this motel. read more

We stayed in Cody because of changes to our Yellowstone trip from COVID-19. This was the motel we chose. The price was about $125 a night including taxes. The rooms are small, but adequate. Each room has the Wyoming cowboy stenciled in the wall. It's definitely different. They also feature nightly entertainment with a man playing country / western music. There is a horse brought here to give rides to the guests around their dirt parking lot for tips. They truly try here. Happy with the stay. read more

This is the most fun we've ever had at a motel! It's incredibly favor oriented and cute and just perfect! The free pony and horse rides and cookies and snacks we're A HUGE hit for our children as well as the other children in the area. There is an native American drummer circle playing and the guests are all enjoying hanging out together and getting to know another. There is a heated pool and playground and gorgeous views and the price is better than any others in the area!!! This motel is near the entrances to the national parks and Yellowstone so it's incredibly close to all of that adventure and yet, still in town. This is a great hotel in a great location. There are plenty of food options in the area and a grocery store or two close by, if you need to stock up before you continue on. The rooms are very comfortable and I felt safe staying there. The room offers basic amenities (cable, microwave, and a small fridge). The water is nice and hot, a huge plus in the winter, and good water pressure. The front desk staff is very polite and are a great resource for suggestions in the area. Big Bear Motel is pet friendly, a huge plus, and there is a field next door that you can walk your dog in. The motel is about an hour outside of the east entrance to Yellowstone. If the east entrance is close due to weather or for another reason, then you can drive about an hour north to the northeast entrance in Montana to get into the park. (According to the park website, that entrance is almost always open.) read more

You will probably be in my situation - driving in the dark, and realize, you shouldn't drive any further unless you want to hit a deer, a bear, or elk. At first I was skeptical about staying here, especially with it looking so shady in the dark, but when we were calling around, the manager was nicer, and more convincing than others. The rooms turned out to be huge, and the queen beds which he claimed was brand new was perfect. We had four adults, and the total was still only $75. Cody is an expensive 'gateway' town for Yellowstone so there are lots of hotels and they cost lots to stay in. The Big Bear is a great option - I found it very good value for the town and had a good stay. It's no oil painting and it not in the centre of town but it had everything we needed in a traveller's hotel: clean linen, KS bed, plentiful hot water, decent TV, microwave, small fridge and free wifi. I can't comment on the pool and other facilities but it seemed like fairly good value to us. We had booked months ago from Australia and whilst they had our card details, they did not charge us. When we checked in and paid cash, we received a small discount. There is a Walmart just up the road to cater for everything you need. We stayed 2 nights after arriving from Yellowstone and wanting to take in the Buffalo Bill Centre before we headed to Billings. read more

Overpriced, noisy and *beware intruders"! Very noisy room, due to thin walls and loud AC. Very Motel 6 style accommodations, but priced like a 3 star motel ($160/night). Small, rough textured towels, no in room coffee, and uselessly slow wifi (20 kbps!). Worst part though was at 8:30 AM a staff person tried to get in, saying to someone something about "showing a room". Kept pushing the door open even though I was shouting at him to go away. Finally I pushed the door shut and threw the deadbolt. 15 minutes later someone from housekeeping also tried repeatedly to enter. I would avoid this place like the plague. read more
