A Barcelona institution, you could call this an early example of 'Fusion' gastronomy: a cross…read morebetween a Bavarian beer hall and a Catalan tapas bar.
Actually, although that sounds weird, you get the best of both worlds: a great range of tapas, with a huge selection of German beers (and some Spanish and Belgian ones). The tapas also include German dishes, so there's plenty of sausage on offer as well as the more usual seafood, stews, tortilla and salads.
The decor, although interesting, works less well: the traditional Catalan blue tiles look incongruous when set off by cuckoo clocks and decorated drinking steins. There are the traditional long counters to eat at at the front of the bar, with tables and chairs in the rear area.
Service is astonishingly swift and professional, although a little impersonal. It can get very busy, and attracts lots of students, office workers and tourists. It's very conveniently situated close to the shops at Placa Catalunya.
