Morrin Centre - I would pay $3000 for this.

They have guided tours of the space in French and English throughout the week. We attended their 3:00pm English guided tour on a Sunday and were so impressed with our guide as well as the history of the centre!! I was amazed by how well they preserved the prison, the story behind it really paints a picture of what the days looked like back then. Their library is also gorgeous with antique pieces and historical figures all around. Morrin Centre is located in the heart of Old Quebec City and is walking distance from a lot of other attractions. If it's a rainy day in the city, I would recommend visiting this place!

Plenty of jokes and interesting descriptions about the history of the place. This building was originally a jail when it was built, intended to reflect the ideology of a British man who was set on reforming prisons. Like many countries when faced with an influx of immigration, the population housed in the jail were disproportionately made up of immigrants being punished for minor offenses. It was later converted to an English-language college that didn't last very long. The building finally wound up becoming an English-language library that now serves as the English-language cultural center of Quebec City. The library is filled with artifacts as well. And that old library smell is heavenly! The tour was a little boring, but not terribly, which is the only reason I give it 4 stars. I would have liked some more photographs from that time to be displayed throughout (even though I know they're probably incredibly rare). I did find myself checking my watch, but probably because we came in starving. If you're a history buff, library nerd, or jail hobbyist (lol), definitely try to check this place out.

You do need to show a piece of ID to enter, so it's good to have that ready. The building's architecture is stunning both inside and out. The exterior is remarkable, surrounded by a lovely park with benches where you can sit and relax before or after the tour. Inside, I was pleasantly surprised to see a work by folk artist Patrick Lavallée, and the portrait gallery of the presidents was a highlight. The modern section is especially interesting because each president chooses the artist who paints their portrait -- and finding a portrait by Jean‑Paul Lemieux, one of my favourite French‑Canadian artists, was a wonderful surprise. The tour takes you through many parts of the building, including the restaurant and the library, and ends near a boutique selling souvenirs. A very worthwhile visit.

4.5 stars Between…read morethe splendor of the historic, sprawling Parliament Building and my interest in political science, I was intrigued enough to register for a guided tour of the place. My friend was similarly curious so we decided to check it out before we left town. Upon entering, we went through a quick security check and then sat in an open, modern auditorium to wait for the rest of the attendees. Our tour guide escorted us out of the new visitors' center in the basement and into the elegant main building that housed Québec's provincial government. We explored various meeting rooms and key points of interest, like taking a peek at their fancy restaurant, which was often open to the public. Our guide was a joy! She was fun, bubbly, and a robust source of knowledge that kept us engaged with her every word. After she took us through the designated route, she left us at the small gift shop, but advised that we should stop by the library, which was in the connected next building. We took a brief detour to check it out and found not only legal and political reference books, but additional tombs of wider interest, including a small children's section. After our indoor exploration, we headed outside to take a photo in front of the building and found a small garden that we wandered through as well. The whole Parliament facility was beautiful, and the educational tour was for sure worth taking.
