I came here for the strawberry-watermelon cake. It was very cute, but also kind of expensive ($9…read morefor a slice which is about $6 USD). I personally don't think the strawberry and watermelon flavors go well together. The watermelon slice in it is certainly refreshing, but it kind of brings the taste down to me. I'd rather just have overall sweetness. The sweetness of the strawberry doesn't match the flavor of the watermelon. Truly Instagram-worthy, though. Service was kind of bad. Two or three people kept walking in and out of the front and back so there would be a different server every two minutes. It was a bit strange and hard to get a hold of someone. I noticed there was a fly trapped in the case with the chocolate chiffon cake.

You get one bite of the watermelon, and then you get the cream, and then you get the cake. Personally I think all the flavors of this cake overwhelm each other and that the texture of the watermelon doesn't mesh as well with the texture of the actual cake. The cake looks beautiful but I would not have ordered something like this again.

They have eggs, bacon and egg rolls, mushy peas, shakshuka and granola. I just got a coffee, quite strong coffee (can't remember the brand), with beautiful latte art. I also got the cheesecake. I was charmed from my very first visit to Sonoma. Upon entering the door and asking about the…read morepastries I was asked "Are you from America?" when I replied "Yes, I'm from California" the immediate follow up was "Are you from Sonoma?" I wish I could have replied positively but sadly I do not share provenance with this amazing bakery. Here are the top two reasons why this place is so good. First off, let me say that I am truly addicted to their Morning Buns. It is the perfect cinnamon roll with a delightful hint of orange which just sets it apart from all else out there. Second, I have a high standard for sourdough and Sonoma meets it. When I lived in Singapore and could not find decent sourdough I took to making my own. Now here in Glebe I can relax because the Sonoma Polenta Sourdough is so amazing. Funny story, when walking around in Northern California near Sonoma we met up with a guy who did the artwork for this bakery. Small world right? Or maybe great bread just brings everyone together.

We had a meeting at Oh Really Gallery on Enmore Road (Now closed. (The gallery not the road. (This…read moreis an unnecessary third parenthesis, but I've never seen three enclosed parenthesis before, I thought I'd try it.))) The meeting was in the gallery because we knew someone who had access to it and in our formative years as a company we needed somewhere quiet to work, somewhere with coffee nearby and somewhere we could work undisturbed. This meeting would be perfect! 'Oh no!' Why did I say perfect? Sods law! The day of the meeting I woke up with a fever. A hot forehead dripping buckets of cold sweat. My nose like an upturned hose attached to a leaky tap; liquid continued to pour out and gravity only made it worse. I say nay to the idea of staying in bed and attend, but I do it on one condition, I have to get some delicious pastries for the team. I go to a place called Allan's Cake just up the road and see that they have a cabinet full of danish's and tarts. I make a selection and ask her if she could quarter them, (they have been accused of treason and this is the appropriate punishment, plus it makes them easier to share. (Convenient and taught a lesson)). I take these scrumptious sugary custard filled fruit and pastry snacks back to the team and they are so happy and delighted with their texture and taste that they don't even care that my appearing at the meeting has jeopardised everyone's health. They even let me go home early as I look, feel and am about to faint. A day of mixed emotion. Yes I was sick, but full of tasty pastry.

Don't get me wrong-this is good, standard cafe food, but a little pricey. This French/Lebanese…read morebakery and cafe is famous among locals for its breads, cakes, Aussie pies, quiches, sausage rolls and other pastries. I tried their famous Bakerman Bacon and Egg Roll and sure enough, it lived up to the hype-a gorgeous dollop of mayo and crunchy bacon snuggled in a crusty bun. But. What's up with the $8.50 price tag? At the end of the day it's just bread, bacon and eggs. I washed this down with a coffee (the Molinari brand) and it was ok if a little bland. One time I stopped for lunch and chose the spinach and ricotta quiche with a side salad ($9.50). It was exactly what I was after (I love cheese!) but it was on the small side-the salad almost took over the plate but it certainly wasn't the star. There was not enough dressing; the leaves were a little dry. There IS something about this place that keeps me coming back though. It has a really tranquil atmosphere and is a great alternative for breakfast or lunch if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of nearby King St in Newtown. There are also gluten-free menu options and free Wi-Fi. The cosy village square is great for kids to run around after school while you sip your latte and people watch. Just don't let the kids see the $6.50 fruit smoothies. Great ambience and service but costly food you could get pretty much anywhere.

Personally on a good Sunny Day, I wouldn't mind being there with a book while munching on a sausage roll. Yes Sausage rolls... My bottled iced coffee was nice and cold, with the right amount of sugar to keep it from being too bitter. The chocolate tart could have been a little sweeter, but it had a nice consistency and din't try to escape all over the plate after I bit into it. I liked that it was not too big, so I didn't feel gross after I finished it. Excellent service, with my snack delivered in a quick and friendly manner.
