When my Tita brought out a box of those yellow, custard-like bread, I thought she brought out chiffon cakes or small ensaymadas. Boy, I was wrong! Apparently, those soft yellow custards were broas!
I never thought that broas could be that soft. I'm used to them being hard and crunchy.
Bought by my cousin from Betsy's in Malabon. That was my Tita's explanation to those asking where they got those broas.
"Dumayo pa siya doon?" Other relatives replied. Probably, they were amazed that my cousin would go out of his way to buy a box of broas. One after the other, they got a serving of Betsy's broas.
I got really curious and gave Betsy's delicacy a try. It was buttery and easily melts in the mouth. Very yummy indeed!
As I write, I still find it weird to call those yellow custards broas. For me, broas will always be hard and crunchy. But, whatever the name, those goodies by Betsy's were delectable. read more
