I was in Champaign early and needed to kill some time and what better way to do that than Hang out at Mad Goat! I am a basic coffee dude and just drink regular coffee and it was very good as per usual. The staff were very friendly and it has an awesome over all vibe! I paid to park across the street and then realized they do have some of their own free parking so note to self for next time! that one was on me! I am spoiled in Danville because they also have their Royal Donut brand donuts but didn't have them at this location but I saw just yesterday that Royal Donut will soon be expanding to the Champaign Urbana area so I am only going to assume it's only a matter of time until they have them at this location. FYI the Blueberry cobbler donut is amazing!!! 2 thumbs up to MAD GOAT!

We got a large cold brew, small tropical bliss smoothie, an a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich. Everything was delicious. It cost just under $20 all together. The building is cute, nice tiling on the floor, exposed brick, hanging lights, an murals on the wall. Lots of different seating options such as large tables, small tables, and couches.

We got a couple of croissants and a canele, and we each ordered an espresso drink. It was everything she promised - and more. The croissant was flaky and buttery. The canele had the signature caramelized exterior and soft inside. I intended to only have a bite and save the rest for later, but I couldn't resist finishing it. Would definitely come back on my next visit. In the meantime, I'll just have to ask my friend to bring pastries to me when she visits!

The service was quick and friendly, the barista described the options available and had good recommendations! Good study space with WiFi, bathrooms, and a water fountain around the corner. Just be prepared to wear a jacket on either end of the cafe near the doors, can get windy upon opening! Thai Tea Caramel Canelé {5/5}: The best canelé I've ever had (okay, I admit, I've only had maybe 6 in my life). Great caramel and good Thai tea flavor. The texture was AMAZING with a nice slight crisp and chewy outside and almost custard-like inside. I got 2 more before I left Green Onion Kouign-Amann {4/5}: A caramel shell outside of this very flakey pastry that I had plenty of green onions mixed within the dough. It was a great play on sweet and salty flavors with delicious flakey layers Jade Cloud {3/5}: Peach oolong tea with matcha cold foam. Just a personal preference thing, but the flavor combination of peach, oolong, and matcha was not my favorite. I can see how someone who likes this flavor profile would find this drink refreshing!

Honest Review (Very Disappointed After a Great First Visit)…read moreThis was my second time coming to Hey Bobo, and I was really shocked by how disappointing this visit was. The first time I came, I ordered the strawberry matcha with boba and loved it , so much that I came back and brought my sister. She ordered the same drink, and I decided to try something new: the frosted coconut pumpkin spell (with boba). Unfortunately, that was a big mistake. The drink was completely tasteless ; it had color but absolutely no flavor, almost like drinking stale rotten coconut water! As someone who loves coconut, this was a first. The taste was very off putting. I even had my sister try it, and she had the same reaction. I politely went to the counter and explained that the drink didn't taste right and asked if they could add more flavor. To my surprise, the lady handed me a cup of pumpkin purée and instructed me to fix it myself. I tried mixing it in, but it didn't help. When I asked if I could get a refund or a replacement, she refused, offering no solution at all. I ended up leaving upset and tossed my full drink. I'm genuinely sad because I really liked this place the first time and was excited to bring my sister, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively). I hope management sees this and takes it seriously, because I'd love to see Hey Bobo improve their customer service and consistency. (Photo of the untouched drink in the trash for authenticity.)
