For lunch we went with a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and meatless "hot dog". The Philly cheesesteak wasn't a traditional cheesesteak but was a very tasty steak sandwich. Great flavor with fresh jalapeños and sautéed peppers and onions. I went with the meatless "hot dog". It was interesting and pretty tasty. It was roasted whole carrots as the main component on a bun with lettuce, kimchi, fried onions, and a spicy aioli. It came with sweet potato fries. Good drinks and service. We will be back.

The burger was okay, but at €16.90 I'd expected a tad more than okay. My dad had the fresh tuna bowl which he said was great. His sea bass looked great too. The wait staff was ever so friendly, one didn't wear a bra which was very pleasing to the eye. Some other wait staff appeared to be polish or Eastern European and they were as well very friendly. All in all a recommended venue.

It's cozy inside, all tables are taken so we sat at the bar by the window, which turned out great for people watching. We ordered the french toast, ruben sandwich, and cinnamon bun, plus coffee drinks and fresh juice. Everything was delicious. The cinnamon bun as a bit hard, maybe that's normal (compared to soft and doughy in the states), i liked that it wasn't too sweet. Service was fast and friendly.

Or just stick to the food; the housemade fries and the 'thick tosti's' are a must-eat! Great terrace too, when the sun is out. Great for business meetings or just a glass of wine and tapas. Don't be afraid of a 'minimalistic' approach. The portions are huge and sometimes even intimidating (check out my clubsandwich). Overall; thumbs up!

There are also some pre made shrimp and I believe lobster roll sandwiches available. I chose the fried mussel plate and my husband chose the fried fish plate. All plates come with fries and two sauces. The portions are enough to share. 24 Euros for both. Be aware though, that the fish portion looks large, but once you dig in, you'll see that it's mostly batter. The mussels were pretty good, but I was fried out half way through. A salad or coleslaw would have been a nice addition. Overall, once is enough at this location. Seating is available, but be aware that when it's busy it can get tough to find a seat. The Siminos restaurant further down may be a better choice, than their smaller fried fish stand. Yelp challenge #21

For around 7 euros you can get a very satisfying sandwich. They have extra BBQ sauce on the table if you need another hit, and that stuff is legit. Two huge thumbs up!! The staff were very helpful as well. A half thumb lost, though, because the hygiene police noted the staff using ungloved hands to hold the bread and fill it with pulled pork.

Once my friend and I found out The Hague had a beach, we walked for 45 minutes to find it, and once…read morewe found it, we were starving. We walked up to The Fat Mermaid to look over a menu and, honestly, when I saw the Fat Mermaid Breakfast, we were sold. Asked for a table right then and there. Service was a little slow, I did make a note of that. It took a while for someone to come ask for our order. We were content to lounge on the patio and we didn't have anywhere to go, so we didn't really mind, but if you're in a hurry, I'd warn you about that. The food, however, was definitely worth the wait. I started with a cup of decaf coffee and an orange juice and then got the Fat Mermaid Breakfast (which, as you can see from the photo, is a veritable breakfast feast) and my friend got the Fat Frenchie (French toast). I was super pleased with my meal. The eggs were fluffy, the smoked salmon (possibly my favorite food in the world) was homesmoked and great, and I liked the assortment of breads. It's also worth noting that this is an excellent location. Right up on the beach so you can watch the waves roll in and the restaurant is well-furnished with many places to sit both inside and out. I would definitely recommend The Fat Mermaid if you have the time, it's a charming little place with great food!
