The focus of the church is Christ and the what the Bible teaches. That said, its definitely not my parents' church, with the guitar-led songs and the fact that I am totally comfortable wearing jeans on a Sunday. There are lots of ways to check it out or get involved beyond attending the service on Sunday morning, such as tutoring refugee kids, rec league volleyball, small group Bible studies, or fellowship events like karaoke. If you are looking for a place to learn more about Christ and His love for all of us, I couldn't recommend Crossroads highly enough.

I remembered the majka bistrica fest in the croatian catholic church in 18th street . There were even old time croatian residents who lived in the area from the 1920s which was very interesting . Now that was like 30 years ago ? ?.... So much has changed. Angel Guardian has alot of these bosnian croats. I believe the priest is a bosnian croat. Not sure. Even though Angel Guardian is quite a trek for me via public transportation, I really like it here. I don't go every week (realistically, sometimes it's closer to once a month) but still feel welcome every time I show my guilty face. C'mon, I'm Catholic. We enjoy feeling guilty sometimes. The Croatian community is very close-knit, and I still feel like I'm "breaking into" the clique. And my Croatian could be better. Making it to Sunday mass more often will help me accomplish both!

St. Luke's is a vibrant Episcopal (Anglican) congregation in southeast Evanston. It is one of the…read morerare mainline Protestant congregations with a growing membership. With the leadership of the outstanding rector, Rev. Kat Banakis, St. Luke's has expanded its programming with a plethora of options for people of all age groups, interests, and life stages. St. Luke's has long been known for its historic Skinner Opus 327 organ and its accomplished choir. In addition to the 10:00 AM Choral Eucharist (also streamed online), St. Luke's offers musical programming throughout the year, and it is also known as a music venue for secular performances. The parish has a well-earned reputation for social justice activism and community engagement. There are many opportunities for members to serve and a majority of St. Lukers are active participants in a ministry. While St. Luke's is an Episcopal parish, many parishioners come from diverse faith backgrounds, and there is more than a modicum of ethnic, racial, and socio-economic diversity often absent in American churches. Although the congregation is decidedly progressive and open in orientation, I think that freethinking believers and seekers of all political, philosophical, and theological persuasions can find belonging, meaning, and acceptance within the community. After cycling through and exploring many different faith communities and traditions, and having witnessed more than ten years of change and progress in the St. Luke's community, I have never been prouder to call St. Luke's my spiritual home.

Finding a multi-cultural multi-generational church on the north shore of Chicago is probably very very rare, but here's SVBC. The current senior pastor, Pastor Tim, bases his sermons on scripture (how it should be). The Gospel is preached every single Sunday, which is so so so important, as it's the center of our purpose! This is not a feel good prosperity church as so many are today. SVBC has repeatedly convicted me, drawn me so much closer to Jesus, and given me a family. I am so forever thankful for this church. No matter who you are or where you are in life, SVBC is the place to be.
