The church is better known by the name "The Baton Rouge Dreamcenter", but it is part of Healing…read morePlace Church; it's the North Baton Rouge campus. There's only one service on Sunday at 10:30 AM, and if you don't have reliable transportation (and live in the relatively surrounding area), there are vans, a bus, and even a shuttle that will provide you with a ride to and from the Dreamcenter for FREE, provided you live in the general area. I've been volunteering/serving at The Baton Rouge Dreamcenter for a little more than 2 years now, and I genuinely love it! The congregation's diversity is akin to the Occupy Wallstreet members in that it's such a mix of folks from literally all walks of life. I've never known of any other church who genuinely wants, welcomes, invites, fosters, and invests in every single person who walks into the building. The pastor, the leaders, and all of the volunteers are kind, friendly, and make a point to walk through the pews to greet the regular (as well as the semi-regular!) members and visitors before service begins. ALL are welcome, and I can't stress that enough - addicts, homeless, poor, rich, middle and working class - it doesn't matter! Walking into the building is like attending a weekly family reunion; skin color is of no matter despite the church's location. The pastor and leaders strive to connect with the members, and also encourage the members to connect with each other. The pastor, and church as a whole, is very transparent with how they spend the tithe. At the end of each year, you can go online to their website and download Healing Place Church's annual budget breakdown - it's available for the pubic to see! From time to time, in service the pastors will also tell you stats on how the money is being spent for all in attendance to bear witness to - (examples specific to the Dreamcenter) you'll get to know how many hot meals were given to the homeless every week, you'll hear of other instances of people in the community being blessed by giving away 400 hams for families in need for Thanksgiving (every year!), twice a week "Cafe" is held for anyone in need to get off the streets for a bit, enjoy the company of others, enjoy some FREE coffee and a snack, receive FREE groceries, AND if you need, there's a clothing boutique where you can choose FREE clothing! This place is here to serve the surrounding community, plain and simple. The sermons are diverse as different speakers deliver the week's message, but are usually pretty good about catering to the crowd. There's typically an emphasis on the message being Spirit-filled, and the place is no stranger to altar calls complete with prayer partners should you need someone to pray over you. Last but not least, there's FREE child care provided for babies through teens. The church really invests in the youth at the Dreamcenter in an attempt to provide a safe environment for them to be social, and not in the streets, as well as a genuine desire to aid in raising up a strong, Christ-centered next generation. TL;DR: This place is passionate about serving others, reaching the community, showing Christ, and is filled with integrity. It's definitely worth trying out for about a month or so to get a decent feel of the place

Ok, so if you aren't gay... we don't mind... won't condemn you... it's ok... trust me. We actually…read morebelieve that heterosexual people's ain't gonna go to Hell any more than we are - at least not because of who we love. And, despite rumors to the contrary, believe it or not - not everybody who attends MCC is gay! We believe, "ALL ARE WELCOME in the family of God, and we practice a ministry of inclusion and love. We are committed to providing an open and safe community and equipping ourselves to do the work all of us are called by God to do in this world." "Lives are transformed when people are freed from the OPPRESSIVE religious environment of our day, so we provide instead a message of liberation designed to help everyone experience true life through God." "We believe Christian SOCIAL ACTION CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE in our world. And we know that by being real people practicing real worship and real faith, each of us can play our part in making this world a better place for everyone." Rev. Keith Mozingo, our pastor, is about as entertaining a preacher as ever I've met. There's lots of singing and praying of course, and monthly potluck's. Basially the history of the Church is that since 1968, MCC has been at the vanguard of civil and human rights movements by addressing important issues such as racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism, and other forms of oppression. MCC has been on the forefront in the struggle toward marriage equality in the United States and other countries worldwide and continues to be a powerful voice in the LGBT equality movement. So, leave yer bigotry and self-righteousness at the door or on the floor as you enter. Like the man who said he "loved me" and that's why he was at Gay Pride screaming through a megaphone to let me know I was "going to Hell," we love you too, only in our case we mean it. Not about condemning; not about excluding; not about saying stupid shit like "AIDS is the Wrath of God visited on the gays!" (by the way, in Baton Rouge if you're a HETEROSEXUAL African American or Latina female between 18 and 26 years of age you're statistically a lot more at risk than most everyone else - "God's will?" - Really?). The MCC offers open communinion - you need not be a member of the Church or any church in order to receive the sacrement. INCLUSIVE - not EX. Sort of like the way Jesus said it ought to be. Easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle and all that stuff...! So consider joining us for Sunday services - 11 AM sharpish. This church truly boasts an environment of "Come As You Are." Here you will find so many varying degrees of persons, yet so many like-minded patrons, too. Pastor Keith is truly a god-send with his kindly disposition. He is easily approachable and would go out of his way to assist those of the church and the community. This church is such a wonderful space for the LGBT community. They have many programs and classes and are involved in many activism and social justice events. This church has some of the kindest people you could want to meet and friendliest faces. I would highly recommend that others frequent this warm and vibrant sacred space.
