If you've ever visited Lyon then you probably noticed a serious lack of good, affordable hotels in…read morethe city. On a recent trip I called over a dozen hotels and they were all full on a Wed night! A little birdie at the tourist office told me that the city is working on amping up the hotel offerings over the coming years, but in the meantime, the pickings are slim. Which leads me to Hotel Saint Vincent.... I was directed there by someone at one of the hotels that was full. They had a double room at 72E and I snatched it up. The location was perfect for me as I had a soirée down the road to attend and knowing little about the city was thankful that it was just a 5 minute walk away. So, herewith the pros and cons of my stay: Pros: +Conveniently located in La Croix-Rousse, an adorable, neighborhood full of vintage shops, independent designer ateliers, cafés, restaurants and bars and just a 5 min walk over the bridge to Vieux Lyon. +The hotel itself is located in a 7th century building with heavy stone walls and vaulted ceilings +The entrance is nice and welcoming +The staff is friendly and eager to please. The man at the welcome desk tried as hard as he could to make sure my WiFi work. It wound up working in the entrance, but once I got to my room it stopped and there was nothing I could do to get it going again (see below for why..) +The rooms are clean +The shower had good pressure. Cons: +The 7th century heavy stone structure makes WiFI virtually impossible in the rooms since the signal doesn't pass through the walls. +The rooms are super small and extremely minimal. Bed, chair, table, and portable hanging rack. That's all. No charm or romance here. +The floors in the hallway aren't carpeted so you can hear everyone stomping around early in the morning. So, what's the verdict? Unless you have no better options, give the hotel a shot. They're also doing some renovations so things could be on the up and up.

The grounds are beautiful there's a balcony in our room and the view is pretty nice..there's a park close by, and the breakfast is very good. Highly recommend staying here

This hostel is super clean, cute, and modern with a hipster kinda vibe (pale wood themed, white…read moreaccents). Dorm beds each have a personal lamp, outlet, mini-shelf, four hooks for hanging clothing and even a little mirror! The dorm rooms also have a few small bean bag style chairs so you can sit next to someone's bunk and chat. And there are luggage lockers for each bed, of course. Despite it being a hostel, I felt really comfortable and at ease chilling and had an easy time sleeping at night. I wouldn't mind staying here for an extended period of time (I only stayed two nights) and they seem to have events (e.g. cocktail bar) every night but Sun/Mon. The bunks are constructed such that there is a sense of privacy (no curtains, but the wood strips by the pillow area and ladder by the feet cover your bunk somewhat). Shared floor bathrooms are nice and spacious with very private stalls (floor to ceiling) and showers with an all-purpose wash dispenser provided. The lounge area has some bean bags, bookshelves, and a desktop computer, and is connected to the coffeeshop, which is connected to the guest kitchen (there is also a foosball table by the kitchen). They play pretty good music in the coffeeshop/lounge area so it's nice to chill there in the evening before sleeping.

I stayed at the hostel but was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was at the coffee shop. The cappuccinos were also fantastic and cakes of the day were also very tasty!

Stayed here for four nights for a convention next door. The location is not in central Lyon, but…read moreclose to their convention center. The amount of traffic around here is limited, and so are restaurant choices. The rooms are a good size and appear fresh in black-and-white. The bathroom is also good-sized with both a shower and a tub. The bed is very comfortable. The service is great, with daily turnover, and everything seems to be well cared for. Only the micro-filtered water dispenser seems to need a little love. Breakfast is on the ground floor in the restaurant Zucca, and the selection and availability are nice. Overall, a great experience.

Nice hotel, right beside the park and zoo…read more Front Desk Staff don't speak/understand English well. During our stay in April, they did not have the A/C turned on, even though it reached 85 degrees in our room both nights. The front desk's only help was to suggest we keep a window open. However, underneath our room was a dance club that played loud dance music until 1:00am. So not only was the room very hot, it was very loud. No sleep. The shower would not drain water properly. The breakfast was really good with lots of options in the buffet.

I had a 10 day stay here for business. The staff was very accomodating. The room was large and…read morefairly comfortable... and especially the really long deep tub! The beds are pretty hard and the floors are pergo. I liked that because carpet always grosses me out, especially in a place that allows pets. Slippers and robes in all rooms. I was on the top floor because that's always my preference. my travel partner was not and experienced the down side to pergo floors... someone upstairs not taking their shoes off and putting on the slippers. So, the food.... BEST HAMBURGER EVER! Part if it was just the fabulous bread everywhere in Lyon. The other was a bit of a twist on the cheese, pickle and dressing. I ate that FIVE nights. I ordered breakfast in my room every morning. Scrabmled eggs, sausage and coffee turned into a large tray with eggs, amazing sausage with pistachios in it, 4-6 mini croissants or some such pastries, the obligatory 3 kinds of bread, salted and unsalted butter, fresh juice, etc. I ate the hot food and took the rest for lunch and the office. (oink!) Only down side was in room coffee. Nescafe. Blech! I ended up seeking a grocery store and bought pre-sweetend and pre-flavored coffee (mocha). I don't much care for sweet coffee but I do like good coffee with real cream. Bad coffee with no cream was just beyond my tolerance. TV had only 2 english channels. The first was the fashion channel which held my interest for about 3 minutes. The other was broadcast from Japan and was in English (not dubbed) and had interesting stuff but only 3 things that played over and over and over again. I streamed Netflix on my laptop after giving up on my horrible French. That being said, it's super convenient to the airport, trains, etc. Way outside the city (I stayed in Lyon proper 4 days prior) Lyon is beautiful, charming and people are overall polite and friendly. They have earned their reputation as a culinary capital. Definitely want to go back!

The room became very hot as I realized that and called for help. They immediately acknowledged it's broken and moved me to the room next door which was nice and chilly. The restaurant offers a great, albeit expensive, buffet. The cold Mediterranean buffet is actually a huge giant meal with hot soup, potatoes, rice, meats, fish, shrimp, cheeses, deserts, nuts and the list goes on! €26 but worth it. The hot adds entrees for another €10ish but good luck fitting them in your tummy!! There is a gym and a Hammam (steam room!).
