Truly dismal. Best Kebab and Pizza in Lockerbie only because there are no others

After my son's rugby commitments, The Townhead has become our stop of choice. Due to travelling a fair distance, we never sit in, but always opt for a takeaway and eat on the journey or when we get home. The food does take a while, but I don't mind that, as it shows there's freshness put first and foremost. The batter is back to being crispy and light, the chips are the right side of fluffy inside. If you say to staff you're going to be taking it a distance away, they do their best to wrap it to keep it warm, always a nice touch. Biggar is a nice little run on a sunny afternoon, either coming from Edinburgh or Glasgow directions, and the Townhead is surely now the go to place to stop for chips. Again!

Stopped to eat here this week. This is not the award winning…read morebusiness as advertised and on old reviews. When was it sold? Ordered food at the counter thinking it was the business in Scotland. One cook and a waitress, but no table order. Adequate common, but suspiciously small fish and chips. Poor value. Tea was a half-filled pot with one tea bag and a small mug. Bread was a roll from a supermarket pack with margarine spread already. The toilet was a disgrace. Np paper and urine on the floor. Observed the whole place was not cleaned. Upstairs eating area was roped off. Dreadful service, product and misleading. Wish we had not entered and, too late, felt conned. Will not stop in Biggar again on our frequent journeys along the 702.

Brands here include Costa, McDonald's and WHSmith, alongside a Days Inn Hotel, so nothing too exciting or different from most motorway services which almost always feature a fast food joint, a coffee shop, a hotel and a WHSmith. The exterior is rather pleasant, with rustic vibes with the exposed bricks, obviously, when you get inside and beyond the car park, it's a regular motorway service, but still nice to note. The communal seating area had a good amount of tables and chairs. There are coffee machines available for when the main Costa is closed, or if you're just in a hurry, which can be used with the Costa App to collect your beans. (Loyalty points) The facilities are fine and clean overall, not somewhere you'd want to spend a significant amount of time but a reliable option in-case you need something to eat/drink or just a driving/toilet break while travelling along the A74(M). 3*

I thought I had found the best takeaway in Ayr the last time I visited this place…read more Wow - was I wrong. Don't misunderstand me. The Lucky Star is a stunning Fish and Chips takeaway but the Eighty 8 is dishing out a level of quality I have not seen for a while. The Lucky Star is also a mighty trek from the city centre and I had to catch a train. First off a disclaimer. I found this place after being at the Ayrshire Whisky Festival. So, was I slightly pissed? Oh Yes. But despite this, I will share my opinion. I am a pain in the butt when it comes to Chinese Food. I like particular dishes. Always have. I always order Singapore Rice Vermicelli. It is really a melange of cuisine with Rice Noodles, Curry, Seafood, CharSui Pork and Chinese Vegetables. Most places cannot make it. They screw it up. Noodles are too thick, the pork is wrong, they mess up the spices, etc etc. The Eighty 8 pulled it off perfectly. Great heat, enough curry, great mix of ingredients. Wow. Too bad it is in bloody Ayr or I would be back - a lot. So, get yourself down here. I would phone ahead or you will have a 30 minute wait ahead of you. The fact that they takes longer usually means the staff uses fresher ingredients. I am always suspicious of places that can churn out a dish in under 4 minutes. It makes me think that some corners are cut and some things are pre-made and microwaved. The dishes from the Eighty 8 hit a bar that I have not seen reached for a very long time. Congrats.

Good take away...its one of the best in ayr. The food is always hot on arrival, and arrives very…read morequickly. The taste is sublime. The variety of chinese dishes is very vast and everything we as a family have tried has been delicious. A must try. Great value for money.
