These people are frankly dishonest. Here's a cut/paste of what I sent to the people at MasterCard, to cancel our transaction: My daughter engaged with The Main Frame Shoppe to provide art-quality prints of her original art. She is a novice in the area, and chose them because of the owner's alleged expertise. They took her art, and said that they would be performing a high-quality print scan (they alleged at 3,000 dpi) and then producing prints in standard sizes that she could then sell. They maintained that these first prints would be "samples" costing "dollars per print", and that she would then be able to store the file with them, order new prints as required, and also receive a copy of the scanned files if she required. No mention was made of dealing with an external provider. When I accompanied her to pick up the prints, there were a number of issues: 1) The prints had been blown up to a size that was non-standard, which forced anyone buying them to do costly custom framing rather than buying a simple pre-made frame at a place like Cost Plus or an art store like Michael's. 2) The quality of the images on the larger prints had some significant deterioration, based on what appeared to be low-resolution scanning. After the better part of an hour spent waiting at the store for the person responsible (the owner's husband? co-owner?), he then arrived and explained that the sizing was exactly what my daughter had requested. He took out a ruler and, after a lot of trial and error, explained that the images had been blown up to the nearest standard dimension for one side, and the other left to be whatever size it would be - a ludicrous explanation, and one that he was unable to reproduce moving print to print (there were three). He maintained that he'd told my daughter this, and that she'd been distracted by "friends who seemed more anxious to get to the beach." When I mentioned the deterioration in the blown-up images, he said that was impossible, "that these things are scanned at such high resolution that you could blow them up 4 times and not see any change in quality." Rather than "dollars per print", the charge was in fact $15 for some prints and $30 for the others, depending on paper quality). Despite the silliness and inconsistency of his explanation, I decided that I would simply pay and be done with these people, and was willing to accept that there might have been a misunderstanding... provided they were able to give the original "3,000 dpi" scans so that we could take care of subsequent printing ourselves. They said they had them on the computer but offered to send them via e-mail and DropBox the next day, given the size of the files. For the next week, no e-mail materialized with the DropBox files. I went by the store on Saturday June 22, this time with a flash drive so I could recuperate the files. The owner told me that "the attachments were incomplete" and that she would send them by DropBox on Monday - that she would have to contact the person who did the scans (not them, apparently) and who also did the printing (again, not them), and that they could not get a hold of them because they spent all day Saturday at their church. This was the first mention that the services had been provided by someone else. Today, I followed up by phone and they sent an e-mail for download of large files (USendIt). I downloaded the images and they were absolutely incorrect - regular old 180 dpi scans of images that I could have done with any device, and certainly not what they said we'd be receiving. I spoke to the owner and he maintains that "his wife made a mistake" and that the files are what's used for printing. I reminded him that at the store I'd mentioned that he said they could be blown up multiple times and not lose any quality, based on the alleged quality of the scanning, and he disputed having said that. What is obvious at this point is that they misled my daughter and took advantage of her naivete in these matters, and outsourced a sub-par job. We are left with nothing that's usable: no prints (which are non-standard size so the cost of framing would be 10x the cost of the print) or the files (which are no different - indeed, lower-quality - than what I could have done on my scanner at work). I've called them to demand a refund but they're ignoring my calls at this point while the owner, who apparently is never there, takes some time to "talk to my wife about it". read more

I had one (36x54) canvas print stretched here (I printed it elsewhere), but I was happy with it and the price seemed pretty good.

Apparently like many people who post here, I was suckered in by Michael's coupon and took some family photos in for framing with the idea that I would put five or six photos in one frame and do it pretty inexpensively. However I got a quote from the girl working in framing at the local store which just stunned me. When I asked them how did they came up with that price, they said it was pretty complicated work (cutting five holes in a mat) and it had had to be done by a computerized mat cutter in their framing plant in some far off place. Besides, she said corporate headquarters sets the prices. I said I had to shop around before I pay the small fortune quoted at their chain store. Then I went to Main Frame Shoppe. At first I was put off by the huge variety of frames and mats available as I thought this must be for fancy art collectors (which seems to be their main focus). However when I asked about my photos, they said "no problem" as they do the work in their, to me, very large on-premises shop and it takes about 10 minutes to cut multiple opening mats for any sized photos using their computerized mat cutting machine which they had on-the-premises. Since I wanted cheap frames I had to repeat my request when they pulled out some expensive frames samples to show me. They said these were cheap because they pick up discontinued fancy moldings and offer them at a price well below usual. I said who does all the work and they said their experienced staff did everything in house and in about a week for simple jobs like mine. So I went with them and did about 30 photos in five frames for about the price of 10 photos in two frames at the other place with the phony coupons. read more
