When most people think of pawn shops, they often think of skeezy, backwards places of business where they're liable to get ripped off or only find junk. Berry's seems to defy all of the stereotypes of pawn shops--it hardly even struck me as a pawn place at all. Berry's is a lot larger and more open than most pawn shops. Toward the back is a very large display case with a surprisingly large selection of cheap DVDs. They also carry dozens of rifles, shotguns and mounted deer heads. Several employees and a couple of security guys seem to be in there at all times, keeping riffraff at bay and and making sure everybody can find what they need. Berry's is especially known for its jewelry. At the front of the store, there are dozens of display cases with countless necklaces, bracelets, rings and watches of all shapes, sizes and prices. It's set up more like a Kay's or Jared than a pawn shop, and there's always an employee there to show you items. What I particularly liked about Berry's was their selection of musical instruments. Along an entire wall of the shop, there are dozens of guitars and basses (mostly brands like Ibenez, Alverez and Squire). They also carry a handful of percussion items, especially snare drums, and their selection of amps and cabinets is pretty varied. I must say, I was far more impressed with Berry"s than I expected to be.

Great experience shopping at Berrys Pawn. John was extremely helpful and kind. He made sure I got a discount too!

I don't really have a lot to say about their product. I've worked with Hancock many times…read morethroughout a number of years on all kinds of items and things just never were quite like I wanted them. However, based upon that, I would have given them three stars or maybe even four stars. What steals all the stars but one is their attitude toward customer service. They treat you so badly. They make you feel like you are intruding on their space and interrupting their day. I've spent more than $10,000 on one item alone and thousands on several others, so I know I'm not their greatest-paying customer, but I'm also not the least. Regardless, I expect to be traded with respect, kindness and friendliness. That's the key right there. There is no friendliness. Nobody smiles when you walk in and nobody makes you feel like they're glad to see you. They just lose so many stars due to their poor interpersonal skills. I went back to them because I thought that is where my spouse wanted to go. However, I discussed my displeasure with my spouse one day after what I thought was a particularly bad experience there, and I was shocked to learn my spouse did not care for those people, either. I was so shocked because after 45 years of marriage, that was literally the first time I had ever heard my spouse not like a person. Never once had I heard them say, "Yeah, I don't really like those people," which was my spouse's exact words. I will never forget them because, again, it was literally the first time I'd ever heard them say anything negative about any person or business and I have never heard them them say any negative thing about anyone else since. My spouse likes everyone. It was a relief for me. We enjoy investing in jewelry for both of us and we have found another jeweler who is absolutely wonderful. He even calls us when he gets something in he thinks we might like. He is usually correct because he has taken the time to get to know us and know our taste. All of the employees at our new jewelers are always smiling and someone always greets you kindly when you walk in the door. Before you ever reach the counter, you have been greeted with enthusiasm. That has been happening ever since the first time we walked in the door and I have seen them do that to other customers every time I'm in the store. It made us realize how much enjoyment we had been missing by shopping at Hancock Jewelers. I don't wish any ill will upon Hancock Jewelers. I can speak only from our experience multiple times over the years. I probably wouldn't have taken the time to come here and give this review, except I see their commercials and they just don't sit well with me knowing how my spouse and I were treated. One last important note: I do not think my spouse and I were singled out. While we waited for service, I noticed they treated others the same way. It's just not a happy place.

A few nights ago I discovered a crack in the shank of my antique engagement ring. The shank (the…read moreband section of the ring) was replaced three years ago by a jeweler near Franklin. Feeling sickened by the idea of taking my ring someplace for repairs (and worse at the thought of losing it if it broke) i decided to take it to Village Jewelers because it is so close to my office. I dropped it off in the late afternoon and they told me that it would be ready at 3pm the next day. They also told me that repair on the shank would be $25. They did not pressure me into buying anything or having anything else done. I called at 11 the next day and they told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. That was fabulous. When I got there we discovered one of the small pave diamonds had fallen out as it was near the crack. They didn't charge any extra and replaced it in the spot. There was no pressure from the salesman and we had a nice chat about vintage jewelry and other things. As someone who's worked in the jewelry biz before, I can say I was treated well, the repair price was reasonable, the repair and service were excellent and I would gladly go there again. I have since recommended them to other people for repairs.

However, I believe it was one of the business owners - but he overheard the conversation and was quick to see what I was looking for and helping me out. Turns out he was able to fix it within the span of 15-20min which I greatly appreciated. Currently, the store is being renovated but I could see the general vision they're trying to allude. All in all, a very quick and sweet visit.
