This review is for the veterans who are suffering as I was. The VA will deny you at every possible turn. You NEED a qualified team to step in your shoes and battle it out for you. We (us Veterans) did our time fighting and it is OK to let someone stand up for you now. The VA will let you suffer and give you the run around when doing it yourself. After eighteen years in uniform and a decade in Federal Law Enforcement, I was posted to Lincoln, Nebraska from Vermont. My ability to maintain professional standards at work were bringing me closer every day to being forced to voluntarily resign from work. A fellow, civilian law enforcement officer, suggested that I consider approaching Berry Law, in Lincoln Nebraska, to review my disability issues. What problem caused you to seek assistance from Berry Law? The Veterans Affairs (VA) was unwilling to consider my perspective regarding my disability issues. Initially, they assessed my disability at 10%. Despite undergoing three physical examinations and four psychological evaluations, including one from my personal psychologist, the VA only increased my rating to 30%. When I retired from the military in 1989 I filed for disability on my back and my teeth from a helicopter crash in 1972 and other health issues from Agent Orange and burn pits in Vietnam. I have used several Veteran Service Officers over the years and have been denied any compensation from the VA in every case. I have spent over $40,000.00 in dental bill and have had 4 major back surgeries and am fused from my tail bone to my neck. 2. I engaged Berry Law based upon the recommendation of fellow US Navy vet, CAPT John Cordle, USN (RET) for help with a claim for service connect sleep apnea that was initially denied. He was facing the same issue with the VA. Sean Shepherd, my Veteran Case Manager, and former US Marine spent a great deal of time explaining the VA process and the issues surrounding service-connected sleep apnea determination. Working through the VA's disability C&P system can be a time-consuming task. I personally experienced the ups and downs, denials and appeals of items in and not in my medical record, all while trying to navigate the system on my own. As a vet, especially combat arms, we have a different point of view. The culture while in the service is to suck it up and drive on and Motrin is handed out like tic-tacs. Once out, the same attitude persists. We just deal with it, until we can't. In 2015 I tried to seek on my own disability benefits and was denied outright without even a C&P exam. I didn't understand and felt betrayed, frustrated, & at a loss. 10 yrs later my wife convinced me to try again, and after some online searches for assistance, I came across Berry Law, it was one of the few that lawfims that highlighted Airborne operations and a slew of the issues I was dealing with as a result, in addition to injuries from a Training MVA while in service. I am a veteran who got an honorable discharge in 2005. Like many vets from that era going to medical wasn't really a thing and even after I got out I continued the practice of not going to doctors until things got so bad I had to. For many years I didn't even know I could file claims with the VA so I started the process with a VSO. The VSO recommended against filing some of my claims and did an intent to file on one claim. Same VSO forgot about me for 9 months before being called by me at which time he submitted my claim. A friend of mine told me about Berry Law. I called them and within 2 days was informed they would represent me. I was connected with Corrina and Avery and was told up front they couldn't do much until decisions came back. They helped me file additional claims my VSO didn't want to do and was very responsive when I had questions. They were even able to show me dbqs and other communications. As a disabled veteran, I cannot speak highly enough about the amazing employees and overall work ethic of Berry law.
