Excellent variety, prices are a bit high, service is always on point, and the location's hard to beat if you're in the Lowell city area.

On my last trip I was looking for a wrench adapter and a special bolt for an old Fiat. They had both, unlike the stores I had come from, and they were happy to help me find them. The store opens early, closes late and everyone there is helpful and knowledgeable. And they often stock hard to find things, like Yellow 3M weatherstrip adhesive. I check there first for hardware needs now. These guys get it!

Also the vet service that comes to this store CHARGED ME TWICE for a vet service (and it was almost $80 ONE TIME) and if I hadn't LOOKED at my bank account myself--I would have never known because the vet service didn't bother to notify me! The vet tech ran my card a second time and SWORE it only charged me once and HE WAS WRONG! DO NOT TRUST THEM. Also the vet techs were EXTREMELY RUDE and said my dogs should be MEDICATED to get their nails trimmed because of their anxiety. They are 18# mini golden doodle and a 15# mini aussie doodle and the sweetest little dogs ever! I only went here because moved here recently and didn't know of many vets in the area yet. The vet clinic I used to take them to (before I relocated) NEVER HAD A PROBLEM with trimming their nails or suggested this! Of course that vet tech was actually very loving and that makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. I will NOT BE BACK to this HORRIBLE store or it's equally HORRIBLE vet service.

Arrived at a relatively slow time, 2 pm on a Tuesday. A few customers but not much going on. Two staff at the front counter, others walking around, seemingly unoccupied. I asked a staff member standing in the paint department where the floor and porch paint was. He replied, "Huh? What are you looking for?" I repeated my request for porch paint. He looked confused. My wife, a professional painter, joined me and prompted him again, asking for floor paint. He replied he didn't think there was floor paint -- it did not exist-- but he would look. A few minutes later, he announced with some incredulity that he found the floor and porch paint on a top shelf, well out of our reach or line of sight. He began to read the labels: "We have gray, light base, medium base, and dark base. What color do you want?" I asked him what colors were available and then repeated the four labels on the cans. We left the store. Won't be going back. Rudeness and stupidity like this pretty much insure we will be ordering our floor paint online.

It's not surprising that they don't have everything, given their small size, however. What I have noticed is that the prices for several of their products are quite a bit higher than what you'd find at a Meijer, Menards or Lowe's - not just more, but sometimes more than double. I will say that the service here tends to be helpful and friendly. If you need help, they will be happy to help and if you just want to look around, they don't bug you. If I'm shopping for an everyday hardware item, I will typically stop into Godwin's first, but I now check the going price for the item and if it's significantly more expensive here, I just go somewhere else. Otherwise, I do try to support local business and get the better service they provide.

I always thought it was super high end and expensive for some reason. We decided to just browse one Saturday morning and we ended up having a great experience! There is metered street parking in the front of the store, but there's also a large free parking lot behind the building. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and asked if we had been in before. When we said no, the friendly employee gave us the lay of the land and told us there are three floors to the store and that it's much bigger than it seems from the outside. Totally true! I always thought this store was small, but it's really huge. We started browsing through all the setups and were immediately impressed by the styling of each area and all the different items. They have all kinds of furniture, decorations, and rugs. Prices were clearly marked which I appreciated since it shows they're not trying to hide anything. I was pleasantly surprised that I found quite a few things that would fit into our budget, along with higher-end, more expensive pieces. They also have a clearance section which we looked through. The pieces I saw mostly swayed more modern and a little less traditional, which is more my style anyway. Upstairs we found a coffee table that was a major upgrade from our current table, but still in our budget and actually quite affordable. It has a metal base and a glass/ceramic top that looks and feels like marble. Super sleek and sophisticated! Christine was upstairs and asked if we needed any help. We asked her about the process for purchasing as we wouldn't be able to fit the table into our car. She told us that we could pay for it and come back with a larger vehicle, or we could pay $60 for local delivery. SOLD! I am all about that convenience and for $60 they can pack and carry the pretty heavy table. We paid for our purchase and Christine was super awesome with the whole process. I am so glad we finally stopped in to Stonesthrow and I can't wait to go back! She did say that they also do special orders if you know something you want and they are able to get it in store. Highly recommend looking here instead of Wayfair etc. for a local option. They also provide interior design services!
