I feel as if I was transported to a place where there is not a worry in the world. The inside of the store is lovely, but the outside is where the true beauty lies. Take your time as you make your way through the peaceful path of sculptures. Soak in the beauty of the surrounding trees. Take a moment to stop and look at every detail. I would have purchased everything in here if the wallet was a bit heavier. It is pretty pricey, but everything is beautifully made. They have always responded to me when I've asked for their help. I can only assume other reviewers expect to be waited on hand & foot, but with only one worker in a 2 story shop, I can see how they can be busy. The shop has a great selection of original PNW/Alaskan Native American art at reasonable (~$100) prices along with some other curios. This is my go-to for gifts for weddings, Christmas, etc. I've bought many things over the years.

What a fun gallery!…read more It's All original art and all local artists to the greater Vancouver area. They have stuff I can actually afford on my student budget of craft dinner and mr. Noodles. Lol They do all types of events too. They have Painting parties for adults and a Zombie walk and hunted gallery on oct 19th 2013 for Halloween. The coolest thing is they Change over all the artists in the whole gallery every two weeks to keep it fresh with more of a show Atmosphere. They also help youth artists in the community. Really cool young couple that run it too. So jazzed about what they do and speak so highly of the artists in the gallery. I'll be returning all the time to see the new shows!

I like that this art market has a wide range of prices-you can find gifts for under $20 just as easily as gifts over $200. It simply depends on what you are looking for. You can find decor for your home, walls, kitchen, or self here. They feature many different types of artists and cater to many different personal aesthetics. It's about an hour and a half drive north of Seattle, into the beautiful pastoral area of the Skagit River Valley, and well worth that drive for a gallery opening or an artist talk. Smith & Vallee put a lot of emphasis on both paintings and sculpture, particularly from regional artists (and the Skagit Valley area happens to be loaded with great artists, presumably attracted to the great landscapes and light angles, and the arts-friendly communal atmosphere of Bow-Edison). A cozy, intimate gallery + talented local artists + a supportive community = really fun and well-attended gallery openings. It can get pretty packed, which might force you to rubberneck a bit in order to see some of the art, but people are generally kind and relaxed. If it's too crowded for your blood, walk around and check out some of the other neato little shops, restaurants or bars in town and then filter back after a bit. "Town," by the way, is more or less a couple of charming little blocks that look as if you're on the set of a movie.

There's also a little movie theater off to one side that shows independent and art house films. The people who work here are very nice, and are doing great work to support their community. This is a group of 5 artists who operate the studio together. Their art is colorful, whimsical, and a breath of fresh air as you reach the top of the long stairway to the second floor. Keep in mind that their hours are by appointment only, so plan accordingly. I'm hoping they're live and in person at the next Art Walk!
