Das Personal war äußerst freundlich und aufmerksam, was den Abend für uns sehr angenehm machte. Besonders hervorheben möchten wir das Essen. Die Schweinshaxe war einfach köstlich und ist nur zu empfehlen! Auch der Salat war frisch und schmackhaft - eine tolle Ergänzung. Jeder von uns war mit seiner Wahl zufrieden. Once it came to ordering, they got 3L of a house beer (cost around 18 euros) while my half liter of wine was about 10. For food, I had read on tripadvisor that there was a shared meat plate that people raved about, so we all decided to get it and share. Heaven is an understatement. there were sausages, pork, beef, turkey, gnocchi- type thing, dumplings, pasta, etc etc. Every single thing was delicious and the 5 of us were so extremely full and sadly couldn't finish the plate. I would go back there on a daily basis if I could. Fairly inexpensive, delicious, great service, and nice ambience. Win win win on all counts!!! You must try this place if ever in Ulm. The meals were good, the prices were fair, the staff was very nice, and they accept credit cards (including AmEx) without the chip European cards have. The exterior and interior remind me of old world Germany. The interior is filled with dark woods, dim lighting, and German knick-knacks. The employees are kind, patient, and always smiling. During the two times we went, we tried the following traditional Swabian foods: -White wurst with pretzel and sweet grainy mustard. It comes with two links and can be shared as an appetizer between two to four people or eaten as a meal on its own. Tip - cut it open lengthwise before eating & don't eat the casing. -Swabian roast beef with spaetzle (cheese noodles), friend onions, and brown gravy. This is a big portion and is rather heavy, like most foods they serve. It's a must at some point. -Wollister rosti - fried potato patty with thick bacon and cheese. It comes with a side salad consisting of lettuce, tomato, carrots, and sauerkraut. This was ok, but not a must have. -Apple Pie. You gotta try it. It had the flakiest and most delicious pastry crust. The filling wasn't typical american apple pie. It was creamy and cinnamony. -Fried dough with cherries and icecream. My friend ordered this. I tasted it and thought it was ok, but preferred the apple pie. -German beers. No need to explain this one. Just knock down a cold 0.5L Pils. ;-)

The noodles were light and fluffy, of course, eating the whole plate, one doesn't feel light afterwards! The place looked authentic German to me and its right in the center of the Old Town area as well. I see so many bad reviews (in German) but I cant read them. Not sure why, but I found it to be a great experience overall.

We searched on Yelp to see where we could have our late lunch in Ulm since it was our first time…read morehere, and we decided on this place as our #1 choice. We were not disappointed, and we really enjoyed our dining experience at this "Pretzel Tavern" overall. It was such a nice day (I have to mention here we were so ready to be in a warm sunny environment after a seemingly long and dark winter here in Germany), so we opted to sit at an open table in the open-air street dining area (photo). I tell you it was so good to be able to sit in the sun to enjoy our relaxing time and food. My brezel (namesake for this establishment) was very good. It came out of the kitchen very warm and it had pretty good amount of coarse salt crystals. Of course, it had just the right texture of chewiness. Schwäbische bratwürst (a.k.a. naked bratwurst) was a little on a bland side (as is often the case with this type [weißwürsts] of bratwürsts tend to be for the lack of spices and herbs), but the gravy it came with was excellent and saved the whole dish. Also, I would've preferred to had my Nürnberger bratwürst grilled a little longer, but they tasted very good nonetheless. Serving was very generous for the money (you'll be the judge from my photos). All the side dishes: bacon-fried potatoes, sauerkraut with bacon pieces (unique) and traditional potato salad were excellent. Of course, when you mix anything with bacon, you know, it has to be good. Service was prompt. I felt our server was a little abrupt, but she was very efficient. I thought considering Ulm being a part of Schwäbische culinary territory, they did Bavarian sausages pretty well. Their menu items are very extensive. Of course, some folks were simply enjoying bier und brezel in the afternoon. If you are in Ulm, you want to try this place if you like Bavarian or Schwäbische cuisine...only about five minutes walk from the Ulmer Münster. You can pay with credit card if you prefer...inside at the hotel front desk, otherwise you pay cash at your table as usual.
