Everyone knows the story of the long nosed muskateer, Cyrano de Bergerac. The town loves this legendary hero, celebrating him everywhere, although he was not born here. Bergerac is in the Dordogne department in southwestern France and boasts some of the finest wines due to the excellent drainage and soil of adjacent Dordogne River. The neo-gothic Notre Dame church was built in 1856 and has a bell tower of 80 meters high. It's beautiful and cool inside with spectacular stained glass windows. The Saint Jacques church was built in the 12th century. Architecture in Bergerac is quite interesting and different and in two squares you can witness statues to Cyrano. A recent attraction in Bergerac are the Food Trucks that offer fast French food for take away. If you visit on a Wednesday or Saturday, make sure to go to Place Gambetta where the general trading market takes place. It's a huge market where you can sample fois gras, buy fruits, vegetables, wine, crepes, and even see little piggies. read more
